Here's my bad Spanish version:

El padre es mi pastor. No voy a querer.

Tu baston y barra me confortar.

Amen.

Ahhh...that doesn't grasp the metaphorical quality of the lyrics. The word is "lord' and not "father," and also, is the word "shepherd" really "pastor?"

Like I said, it's bad, bad Spanish! But I did get a few things right. Here's a Spanish online Bible's rendering:

You did alright...and your Spanish is excellent.

My issue is that poetry defies transaltion...and that goes for most of literature. I once created a course at Rutgers University on Politics and Literature. I became convinced that an author cannot intentionally mix the two. Sometimes they can fall together, but never intentionally. It's like serving two masters.

I'm just going to go ahead and be an asshole, and ask what's the point of learning a language like Elivish or Klingon. Or Esperanto, for that matter.

Yes, I'm a dick. But someone had to ask, and I decided in this case it might as well be me ...

Sorry, vic.

to understand how languages are constructed and evolve,
to provide mental exercise
to speak a language you are almost guaranteed no on listening in can understand ::D::
because it amuses me....

Theory always precedes engineering, Ben. Thought before action. I can think of a million uses for an invented language.

Um...isn't that what computers are? Fortran IV? COBOL? SNOBOL? BASIC?

Smile

I'm assuming that is the traditional "Lord's Prayer" according to the Anglican (high ?) church, as Victor
has depicted it there ???

Over here, since the 1960s, it has been something more like this (with the "Catholic version") :

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on Earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who have trespassed against us.
("trespass*" in the above line has been replaced by "sin" in some 'New Age' versions..)
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil;
(the following line was only added back into the Catholic versions in the 1970s..)
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.

Amen.
