Ahoy there! I'm off on a boat

Post by eddie on Wed Jul 30, 2014 4:23 pm

First topic message reminder :

Come Friday I'm off on a boat to the Norfolk broads.

Just in case I forget to say goodbye or whatever, just wanted to tell everyone to be good and to keep my debating seat warm.

I will keep an eye out for shady and I'll certainly raid his ship if I see him on his voyage.

Now, I will be driving the boat at times.....so erm.....keep an eye on the news....in case I get lost at sea or washed up on an island somewhere  Suspect

See you on and off as I'm taking my iPad to keep my beady eye on you all  cyclops

Topless on the boat.  Once we got clear of the Bay we used to do it all the time.

We used to come in to dock at Sam's Anchor Cafe for lunch, and the young ladies would delay putting on the tops til the last minute...for effect, obviously.

But that was before I was attached.  Rolling Eyes

Twitchers have noted a rare sighting in Wroxham of a White Breasted Nuthatch.

Much caffuffle on all the bridges

Whenever I tried to make a model there never was one already made. Maybe my Hamster used to eat it............ Especially the cakes. Could explain why Hamster didn't live for very long.

Post by eddie on Wed Aug 06, 2014 10:01 pm

I'm back!!!  cheers

In a nutshell:

Boat had to be returned by 8:30am Friday morning and we thought "bollocks to getting up that early" so decided to bring the boat back Thursday evening.
Well it rained a lot today and the weather was forecast rain tomorrow so we decided to come back early.
We often do that anyway; we come back from places when we've had enough.

So! Tuesday, we saw a broken down boat with a couple on board and we turned our boat around and went to find the river police for them. He was a pretty complacent river police person as he wasn't in any hurry to go and help them and told us we had "approached him too fast" pffffffff!
Then. About three hours down the river, after jobsworth police twat had bothered to get in his boat and break his own speed limit, we came across a family of four who had driven into a bank of reeds!! The husband was fuming as his wife had run aground (wonder if she had a bikini emergency like me??). We tried to tow him - which was difficult as the tide and wind were strong - and my son and I were trying to catch the rope and tie of to our boat whilst our boat was pulling us out.
Needless to say we didn't succeed after about three attempts.
We called the emergency river bods and they went and got him.

So all in all, an adventure.
Glad to be home as apart from the beautiful scenery, the early morning fishing, the lovely family time and the wildlife, the bed was bastard uncomfortable and my pillow smelled like old man breath.

And.....

Where was Shady when we needed him????

Ps after writing this I see the weather is now saying sunshine tomorrow
Bloody typical

Saw the pics, were they the 'before' photos of the boat? I am assuming it didnt look like that after you had been wrapping it round reeds for a week  Neutral

Good afternoon Eddie.

Were you on one of those funny barge things?

No shady, on a boat type of thing, with upper deck and lower deck steering? Looks like a speedboat shape but only goes about six miles an hour?

I did wave to a ship that was called Shady's Revenge but alas, you did not wave back.

I'm glad it was just fridge magnets, and not really significant things like, for a totally random example, chunks off the Rocky Mountains that you can keep in your home -- you know, a real sample of something that doesn't just occur everywhere in the world, but that you can only actually find in one relatively small place.

And yes, Cass, I'm messing with you  Cool

Nice  Cool

I've been holding it against Cass ever since she made a joke about someone going on holiday (by the way, I hope you all appreciate the effort I go to, to speak British) and asking if they got a rock. I got a piece of pink granite flecked with iron from the Rocky Freaking Mountains, not something easily come by (effort to speak British, etc.) in Texas ...

We appreciate your efforts Benjy but you could say "vacation" - we all read enough American lit and see enough films to know the lingo  Cool

By the way, the "rock" we speak of is a disgusting long piece of candy (effort to speak americanish) that breaks your teeth when you bite it and turns into some chewy kind of weird shit when it's in your mouth  Evil or Very Mad

Not nice.

Made me LOL with the "American" edds, thanks Smile

And I can't remember the last time I heard of rock candy here. But it reminds me of one of my uncles, who was in the military and stationed in S. Korea for at least a decade. He came home and couldn't believe how different the country was. Which is the heart and soul of America -- it changes constantly, you can never expect it to stay the same and if you're American and you do, you've completely missed the boat (see what I did there?).

I posted about this in Thinking Deeply -- things that were unthinkable a decade ago become common wisdom while you're not paying attention Smile

I blame Shady, he who terrorizes suckas on the seven seas ... At any rate, it's a pirate's life for me Smile

Me and a friend of mine camped in his back yard and played the record this was on until we fell asleep -- Sixteen men on a dead man's chest!
