Is it ever ok to use the N word?

Post by FluffyBunny on Fri May 09, 2014 10:10 am

First topic message reminder :

I am debating elsewhere about the use of the N word and what has shocked me is the overwhelming majority seem to think white people should be able to say the N word if black people choose to.

Firstly,I would never dream of using the N word personally,it just isn't part of my vocab.Secondly if some black people want to use the N word to reclaim it and take away its power that's their business, not mine.It doesn't mean I should be able to use it.

Others however seem to believe that if black people are allowed to use an offensive term( i.e in hip hop and rap music) then they are wrong and obstructing peace between people of different ethnicities by continuing to use the word.

Well,I think that black people who do choose to use that word are permitted to do so and it is not white people's place to comment, let alone judge! They are attempting to take away the power of the word and what it once was symbolic of,slavery and repression and hate.

I think white people who judge black people for saying it are outrageous.Just wondered what other forum members think.

But I can't be 100% sure of the way every black person who uses that term means it to be! I just know some do use it as another term for ' brother'.

I do to think anyone is 100% right on this! it's most likely a mixture of meanings to them within other blacks.

Joy I never claimed they used it derogatory and again it used in a brother kin connection through being black, united empowered due to racism.
This has a side affect because some will see whites as an enemy, because of previous countless centuries of racism, so much so it takes countless years to solve

..I agree Didge, now give us a necky  Laughing

It's only appropriate to use if you're a Black comedian.

I don't like the word, but then there are a lot of words I don't like.

A word is a word. If the race that cries racist is using the word all of the time, then that race can't expect other races not to use it as well.

Whites are white, but can be white trash. Do people really curb their language? Blacks call Hispanics, spics and much worse. Every race is racist, but not all people of that race are racist.

For some reason, no one can look past pigment. No one seems to realize, once that skin is removed, everything looks the same on everyone.

You see this is my point that race use the word to mock those being racist and it backfires because others then see it as acceptable to use that word, when negating the fact many black people do not use that word and thus think because some do it is acceptable for some to use against any black person.

Excellent post though showing racism is found within many groups and yet years ago there was no such thing as racism and how centuries later people made poor unscientific claims to promote views that others were inferior based off such notions you state.

Love the last point

No, same as in songs - "alright my ni66ers" - that kind of thing.

Would that be acceptable?

Then no, if your friends use it as within your group and as acceptable that is fine.

However with you and the group using it and making it acceptable endorses racists to think they can do the same

Only if you find it acceptable. You're an adult, you know what is acceptable to yourself and what's not.

A question for everybody:

when was the last time you heard the word other than in a joke or song?

Just out in public? Out and about?

Never.

On the Comedy Network, constantly.

Yeah, i'm just wondering why Fluffy asked the question.

I believe the word isn't used - just as i believe there is no homophobia or racism in England.

We have moved on, there is just a tiny minority who can't let go - and i don't mean the racists and homophobes!

It's sadly becoming a trend Les, homophobia, racism, targeting the unemployed and disabled...

It's rampant and so many like that who back BNP , EDL and UKIP etc seem so proud.

Cool   Fortunately, I apparently still live in a less hypocritical place ~ a place where sporting stands and pet owners' black dogs didn't have to change their names simply because some social commentators and P/C nongs in the USA deem it unsuitable to use such language, less it upsets their sensitive souls and puts the hens off their lay, and the cows off their milking...

British social commentators and doyens of "proper speech" on the other hand, willingly rolled over and asked that American p/c crowd to tickle their belly and lick their backsides for them..

Though, there are naturally always a few Pollyannas down here, who are also constantly trying to "ban" the use of such derogatory and discriminatory terms as well ~ and even regularly attempt to add a new one to the list every now and then.

Yes, the queer thugs and gangsters who used violence, threats, censorship, abuse, and every form of dirty tactic are now saying that they feel a twinge of guilt about the appalling treatment of Brendan Eich. Using the word queer as she does and her comments about HIV sufferers is blatant homophobia; 'queer mafia' wtf?

This is also only the tip of the iceberg (the first story on pinknews, I'm not going further back to prove the obvious). Gay comments are still all over the internet as well as the admittedly (and thankfully) fewer homophobic attacks that still happen/

It is meant to hurt Eli - she is angry and using the worst put-downs she can.

I've explained this before - if you're outraged with somebody, not everybody asks politely, they go for the jugular.

I'll bet you all the money in the world that she has perfectly normal relationships with all kinds of people, all walks of life.

And another:

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2014/05/01/uk-two-men-jailed-for-throwing-gay-man-in-river-calling-him-queer/

"Two men have been jailed for attacking a 36-year-old gay man and throwing him in the River Humber.

They then told the man, who had left a club after a dispute with his partner, that he was “going nowhere” – before rifling through his pockets and shouting “You fucking queer!”

Meanwhile, the two men went to a takeaway restaurant in Hull’s old town and boasted about what they had done.
Mr Standfast said: “Crosby told a woman behind the counter they had just pushed a man in the river because he was gay."

-not homophobic though Andy?

They are probably not homophobic - they shouted that because he was gay.

If he was fat they'd have done the same thing while shouting "you fat b4st4rd!"

Or do you disagree?

I think you're getting mixed up with a "homophobic hate crime" - whatever that is (it's a made up thing in order to "normalise and force people to accept something"), and people being homophobic.

Wrong.

So you excuse being hateful by promoting a view as being normal if the person was fat making you also think it would be acceptable to discriminate also to people are fat and where they could also be gay, thus discriminating on two fronts?
If he was fat and they killed him for being fat it would be a hate crime, do you even understand what the word hate means?
Sorry do you even think before you post Andy or are you that clueless?

So saying "you fat b4st4rd" while committing a crime is a "hate crime"?

So JD is absolutely right then- whatever anyone says, however someone says the exact contrary to what you are saying, even here in the case of an attackers own words; you will deny it is really homophobia, or racism. So this is hardly a real discussion; you will just argue the very facts as they stare you in the face.

I have given you one example from this month; there are similar attacks happening all the time all over the word and just occasionally in this country, but still too much. They admit it was homophobic. Now I'm not going to find more because you will just claim they are only saying it, which is bollocks, this is clearly a homophobic attack, which will happen as long as homophobic attitudes like that of the former UKIP candidate continue to exist.

Yes, because are they killing him because he is fat?
Why are they killing him calling him fat and then go nd boast about killing a person who they class as fat.
Do you see how it works yet, if they killed him and just called him a fat bastard it is different, the view was not to kill based off being fat, but if it was because he was fat then it is a hate crime.

Just out in public? Out and about?

Never.

On the Comedy Network,  constantly.

On Top Gear the other day  ::D::
