Who Drives? How Much Is Your Insurance?

Post by Guest on Thu Mar 27, 2014 11:08 am

27th March 2014

Now, we have two cars - wife's and mine.

Insurance with (I think they go up to 9 years) no claims for both of us.

Around £500 per year for each car - flaming fuming!

We did get a couple of fluffy meerkats though  Neutral

Does your wife drive - are you both insured on both cars?

If I remember rightly, the insurance went down a few quid when we added each other??

Yeah I had that once.

The best way is through the comparison sites - every year!

My experience with quite a few of these car insurance companies has always been terrible - not like the TV adverts at all lol

i use the comparison sites every time now and i tend to ring them up rather than just take the online price sometimes it drops a little more when you question it..

Cool   I pay two separate insurances on my car, over here :

* a "compusory third party" victims injury ('Green Slip') insurance, paid at the same time as the vehicle is registered; and -
* a "comprehensive insurance" policy on the vehicle itself (inc. theft, flood and fire..), and insuring me against damages to another vehicle or property during an accident..

WHILE the insurance payments are probably slightly higher than what you people are paying (as all insurance premiums across the board down here, have jumped steeply over the last couple of years, after a string of natural disasters - storms, floods and bushfires - over the past few years, on top of the "GFC"..), I believe you lot are paying more in the car rego'/inspections/road taxes ?  So that the overall "annual fixed costs" of simply owning your cars, before driving it anywhere, are probably closer to the same range..

MY combined insurances and rego' total for my 2 tonne-plus, 4.0 litre AWD SUV 'wagon came to over $1400 AUD this year (!), which is probably somewhere between 900 and 1000 pounds Sterling ~ and which possibly gives a fairer overall comparison.   Idea
FORTUNATELY, fuel is still cheaper than in Britain and Europe, and I have an LPG duel-fuel conversion on my car ~ so my "total annual running costs" are likely to be lower..

I must confess we didn't pick cars that are cheap on insurance but we got the ones we wanted...
