First topic message reminder :

Has the gig, voted in by 0.2% of the population.
Heaven help us from this racist, moronic buffoon.
He now rules over piccannies with watermelon smiles, Muslims dressed as letterboxes looking like bank robbers, and has told too many lies to list.
Being PM is better on his CV than being fired from 2 jobs for lying, or arranging for a journalist to be beaten up.
Luckily , many Tories hate him enough to quit the party and cross the house.
This could be an exciting week in politics .

And how does that compare with the worth of trade with the EU? Trade with the EU 27 is significantly higher than £10 billion with those 44. Not to mention again that through the EU we already enjoyed trade deal with numerous other countries.

The above will have no tarifs which means cheaper goods for Uk citizens, instead of the infalted prices we have through the EU
Also the EU needs the Uk for trade. Especially Germany which is on the brink of a recession
Also he Eu has fallen sharply against the Pound. Die to measure introduced to attempt to stabalise the Euro
The last thing the EU needs is a no deal Brexit and holding out to them would mean concessions by them
Its going to hurt the Eu far more than it would hurt the Uk. Who's economy is booming at the momment. Contrary to the predictors of gloom

Indeed mate. As you know I voted remain but also believe in what the people voted for and those trying to wreck this clearly have no respect for democracy. They only have respect for tyranny and to force their beliefs onto others. I would rather stay in the EU and the lenghs that remain voters have gone to is quite horrendus. All the doom and gloom predictions have all been wrong and since the referednum the Uk economy has left the EU nations lagging behind. I want a revised Eu that has is based only on trade and security. It requires nothing more.

People are seduced with power mate

The best way to describe this is with the short man syndrome. That the Eu is made up of many minor states trying to punch above their weight category. They know they cannot win in a one to one fight, but use numbers to bully others into submission. That is what power does to people mate. It corrupts them and even more with those insecure. That is why Minnow Countries are so anti the brexit referendum. As they lose any grip[ and control they had other countries they have histroically felt insecure over. If any of them had a sense and ounce of intelligence. It was the British that has always come to the defense of such EU countries constantly in the past. Hence its always about control. Small nations cannot control another nation without back up. When here the smal nations are losimng their longest serving defender in history within the EU. Hence where the bullied nations now have become the one who is the bully. As they fear a loss of control and power they have over others.

We are the 5th largest economy in the world and a huge net contributor to the EU.

We are not trying to punch above our weight... just trying to restore democracy by leaving the EU.

Tommy Monk wrote:We are not trying to punch above our weight... just trying to restore democracy by leaving the EU.

A monkey can restore democracy. When you bring in other players--such as with economic systems--you gain potential opponents, some of whom are as smart as you. What you are doing is precisely 'punching above your weight'.

The UK has a great history. While Europe had its expansive hegemony in the world, Britain had the ability to build a great Empire because it's dexterity with ships and sea-going arts. Now the world is much smaller, and navies are of relatively less importance.

Now, reality sets in. Britain is a couple of islands off the coast of Europe. What other islands are there: Iceland? Greenland? Even Japan suffers a profound shortage of fossil fuels and other resources. Face it, islands are not rich in natural resources themselves, and so island nations must negotiate or take—remember how that turned out for Japan--for the the resources they need. Land based nations have easy, over-land access to natural resources. Not so, island nations.

So, you become an industrial nation. Problem is, you have a profound shortage of natural resources to feed your mills and factories. You are at an immediate deficit to the US, Germany, China and other Asian nations, which can churn out industry better, and cheaper than than you.

Island nations have only one chance...to build alliances with nations with more access to natural resources. You fookin' idiots...you just blew the most obvious alliance, all because they didn't respect your elite airs. All in the name of your Britishness--which, I have shown, was artificial in the first place--you have tossed off your economic hopes.

If the world doesn't give you steel, oil, rubber, aluminium, wheat, etc., you've got nothing to make. If you have nothing to make, you've got nothing to sell. You are the most vulnerable of all nations...an island, industrial nation with nothing to make and nothing to sell.

I agree with much of what you say; though I think your mistake is in pointing at island nations - the problem is not with being an island but with being a small nation geographically. The USA, China etc. are massive. Small countries with abundant natural resources are just fortunately place - geographically - same as Britain's geography helped her for a few hundred years in different ways.

If it were just about being an island then we'd see 27 EU states individually swimming in natural resources, but that isn't the case, which is why they (intelligently) choose to be stronger together Smile

To highlight the point - the USA has enormous amounts of natural resources because it is a gigantic, continent spanning nation. Some of the states alone would be hopeless as independent nations (others would do incredibly well alone, of course, as I'm sure you're no doubt aware Wink )

It's not a case of being better together... we are not 'together' at all... and we don't want to be part of any EU federal dictatorship...

The feeling against the EU is very strong across the whole of Europe... I heard the other day that even Macron has said that if the French people were given a referendum that they would vote to leave too!!!

Among some people the feeling against the EU is strong. Not all. Probably not even most. Macron said if France was in a similar situation to the UK then it would probably vote to leave, not that it would now.

I don't want to be part of a dictatorship either - fortunately we are not, and never have been.

But you keep telling yourself things with lots of explanation marks, seems to convince you of your BS at least Wink

You don't like the EU.  OK, but the principles are the same.  Europe is a vestige of a time when the world thought smaller.  They cut territory into smaller pieces, and locked in their differences with differing languages and customs.  Now, it makes sense to realize the world has grown smaller and the territories larger.  But the principles of geopolitical economics are the same.

Somewhere, somehow, Britain is going to have to figure out how to fit into the world economic community.  If you are just clinging to British Red, and eschewing the needs of your economic neighbors, merely because you your Britishness might be compromised, you are trading real goods for romantic chimeras.

Your appreciation of geopolitical economics is too simplistic, tommy.  You exist in the 17th century when it comes to trade.  You don't understand international cartels.  You don't understand monopolies.  You don’t understand all of the the games that were shown to you in the OPEC crisis of the 1970’s.  Most importantly, you don't understand how Britain can be frozen out of the game.

Nations, like corporations, don't compete by producing the best product at the best price.  They compete by knocking each other off.  Britain is vulnerable and is very close to getting knocked off.

The 1972 European communities act plus the plethora of subsequent treaties ,that have never been given the permission of the British people, has resulted in the uk democracy being completely compromised... the unelected eu president and commission are the ones who set the rules and regulations... with the eu parliament being just a puppet organisation, unable to bring any proposals into the frame, and the majority only there to say yes to whatever the unelected hierarchy tell them to vote for... then all of this is thrust upon the uk and all other eu countries as incoming laws/rules/regulations that must be accepted and implemented into national law...

This is clearly a dictatorship with a thin veneer of democracy layed over the front of it...

All we want to do with the rest if Europe, is have a little bit of mutually beneficial trade with them... and remember that 95% of uk businesses don't do any trade at all with any of them...

So... we are perfectly capable of doing a bit of trade with them... without being in this EU dictatorship...!!!

I don't think you really understand what a dictatorship is, nor how they tend to work Rolling Eyes

But keep fooling yourself that you are a persecuted member of a colonial possession ruled over by evil foreigners. I get some people need to simplify things into black and white to get by in life - and a scapegoat evil for your own failings probably makes life easier for you, too Wink

Stomping your foot, crybaby?  Every time you moan the word 'waffle' it means that you don't understand.

That's all right.  Every political team needs followers and gofers.

Idiotic post. Obviously I care, very much so, or I wouldn't spend time arguing the issue.

I simply do not accept the hysterical claim we are being 'taken over'.

But I understand rosy-eyed lovers of Empire whose heads are stuck in 1945 might kids themselves otherwise Rolling Eyes

It's not about 'empire' you idiot... it is about removing ourselves from being under the dictatorial control of the EU and restoring complete control of our country to the British people!

Maybe your time would be better spent worrying about what's happening to your country.  You're about to become a lonely island, off the coast of a has-been continent.  Wink

Vast British Empire? Is that envy we see peeping out?
He was more likely surveying the vast U.S. 'sphere of influence' (or in other words the empire in denial)

Cool

You have your own twisted version of UK potted history arse-end round,  nicko...

Britain sent her best and finest out to the colonies over the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries..

And kept the riff raff at home --  with the 'worst of the worst' being rewarded with a lifetime peerage, and a seat in the 'House of Lards'.
