A rhino poacher is believed to have been attacked by an elephant and then eaten by a pride of lions during an incident in South Africa’s Kruger national park.

Police brigadier Leonard Hlathi said police received information that a group of men had gone into the park on 1 April in order to hunt rhino, “when suddenly an elephant attacked and killed one of them”.

“His accomplices claimed to have carried his body to the road so that passersby could find it in the morning. They then vanished from the park.”

Hlathi said the group of men left the park and informed a family member of the deceased what had happened, who contacted police. Park rangers began a search for the man, on foot and by air, but could not locate the man at first due to failing light.

Rangers and police returned on 4 April and were able to find the man’s remains in the Crocodile Bridge section of the park.

“Indications found at the scene suggested that a pride of lions had devoured the remains leaving only a human skull and a pair of pants,” said Isaac Phaahla, the general manager of communications for the Kruger national park.

Smile

'Poetic Justice' ?

Another trophy/aphrodisiac hunting coward poacher bites the dust..

If karma is real, perhaps he will come back as a dung beetle for his next few reincarnations, living his short life processing dung for a rhino herd...

I read this somewhere else... and it was said that the park rangers had sent their condolences to the family of the scum bag poacher...

Can't think why they would bother doing that...!?

My guess is that it was for the sake of appearances.

If you think so, does that mean you think animals' lives are more important than people?

Well considering there are vastly more people than most specific animals species and that except to those who know and love us, most people are generally pretty much surplus to requirements in the grand scheme of things, yes many animals are more important than humans - if we wish to keep other species around
I consider myself to be vegetarian and try not to use animal products that involve the death or suffering of another creature.

Most people who eat meat would not condone the illegal poaching or legal hunting of endangered or magnificent species in the wild.
There they go, armed with their tracking devices, guns and knives, after the kill they pose triumphantly as if they have somehow won the fight between man and beast.

Reading about an animal actually killing the hunter is a bit like seeing a matador being gored by the bull.....is it wrong to think, GOOD?

Ben... I didn't say he deserved to die... but high risk of it happening in the location he chose to be carrying out his illegal activities...

Just think the rangers should have adopted a different attitude about it... and maybe used it to highlight the dangers and discourage others from trying to get involved in such activities...

I agree he was a scumbag, but did he deserve to die?

Yes, he did "deserve" to die :
Poacher, trespasser, thief, vandal == 'criminal';
And, in the end he effectively chose his own means of death..

If you think so, does that mean you think animals' lives are more important than people?

No more important, no less important :
Human beings are animals too.
He was a thieving and useless poacher, killing protected animals not to eat, but to help make other criminals richer.

And if you think that, are you a vegan?

Having respect for life in general doesn't make one a "vegan".
In fact many vegans out there in the wider world show LESS compassion than some of the poachers and hunters they rail against  !

No, preventing extinction and protecting the natural world has no correlational to a vegan's evil idiocy
whats protecting Rhinos got to do with exterminating all Domestic Animals?

Hunting animals to the point of extinction is quite a horrific concept. Millions of years of existence of a species brought to an end!! What a Face What a Face A huge loss to planet earth - I challenge anyone to express the loss in £££'s. You can't cos it's simply incalculable.

Of course another factor that is an even bigger worry than poaching is …….. destruction of the habitat of endangered animals thru clearing forests to make way for urban development. Or grabbing the timber.

The largest resource of building materials in the US is timber. Even so, it is not the contribution to increased carbons, as is the clearing of Brazilian rain forests.

You make a good point, even tho your tu quoque fallacy defies a proper search for answers.

Tu Quoque is a very common fallacy in which one attempts to defend oneself or another from criticism by turning the critique back against the accuser. This is a classic Red Herring since whether the accuser is guilty of the same, or a similar, wrong is irrelevant to the truth of the original charge. However, as a diversionary tactic, Tu Quoque can be very effective, since the accuser is put on the defensive, and frequently feels compelled to defend against the accusation.

http://www.fallacyfiles.org/tuquoque.html

Sometimes known by the English name: whataboutism, it is not really an answer, but a change of subject that appears to answer:

Man:  You are quite the loose woman.
Woman:  What about your sister?

Notice the woman doesn't deny or refute the claim. She simply changes the subject to something that puts the interlocutor on the defensive.

It's not a complete fallacy, in that it can have some refutation value if there is an inference that things are not as they seem.  But why not simply say that?
