Ladies, it’s time to rejoice!

After 59 years of dealing with the side effects of birth control pills, men can now share some of the burden of hormonal contraceptives.

According to the Biomed Research Institute in Los Angeles, their male pill has passed both safety and tolerability tests in healthy men.

But don’t get too excited just yet, as the researchers also said it won’t be able for another ten years.

Dubbed “11-Beta-MNTDC,” the male pill includes an adjusted version of testorone, and essentially acts as a combination of the male hormone and progesterone.

Dr Christina Wang, who co-authored the study, said: “Our results suggest that this pill, which combines two hormonal activities in one, will decrease sperm production while preserving libido.”

For the study, 40 healthy men were given either the male contraceptive pill or a placebo over a 28 day period. Tests showed that the average testorone levels of those taking the pill dropped, but did not cause any serious side effects.

Co-author of the study Dr Stephanie Page explained this is because the pill acts like testorone throughout the rest of the body, while keeping levels in the testes low enough to prevent sperm production. The effect is also reversible.

However, the downside is the pill currently takes 60 to 90 days to effect sperm creation, meaning the 28 day study was not enough to test its true capabilities.

Next, the researchers plan to conduct longer studies, before moving on to testing the drug on sexually active couples.

What do we think about this? I think it’s great that the onus could be on men for a while. But would a guy remember to take it?

I nearly always remember to take my thyroid pill. I think it's great to have more options for birth control.

I’m awful awful awful at remembering to take tablets. Can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve not finished a course of antibiotics.

then falling pregnant would be your fault if you missed your pill. But how many men would be truly responsible for this? I wouldn't trust them. Specially the younger ones. I think women need to still be in control of that.

It will be interesting to see when it becomes available how many men will be prepared to make chemical  changes to their bodies, perhaps suffering side effects and as yet unknown possible long term damage.

Women have always been the ones to take the burden of the pill....and as has been mentioned, can women REALLY trust men to take on such a responsible position?

Well that's blatantly sexist! Can men trust women to "responsibly" take their birth control pills?

Another sexist in our midst. Sorry for only pulling up Syl when apparently you both hold the same dim view of men.

Nope, especially if the woman secretly wants a child. I’ve known a few men “tricked” like this.

A woman has to take responsibility for her womb. Sure, a woman may trick a man into getting her pregnant, in which case, use your pill or your condom. Stop slinging an 'ist' around like a madman's shite. There's nothing sexist about it. It's just a fact.

This forum is rife with people chucking an 'ist' around. Mostly the men. I don't think I've seen the women get in such a tizzy over it.

Exactly. Woman gets pregnant. Who's fault is it? Hers. She didn't take responsibility for her own womb.

this is not entirely fair, I have definitely dated women in my 20's that I did not want to get pregnant and have to pay child support to for the next 18 years Wink

it goes both ways, some of the crazy ones even prick holes in condoms if they think they could be onto a meal ticket  Cool

OK, there are devious people of both sexes, I know that.

After giving it some thought....if a couple are in a steady relationship and trust each other I can see the male pill could have it's advantages, the contraceptive pill is the most reliable form of birth control, it doesn't suit all women, so the man taking on the responsibility could be a good thing.

In more casual relationships....I stick to my previous answer.

I think it is more about individual choice
If a women doesn't want to get pregnant she should be on contraceptives and now if a man doesn't want to accidentally father a child at his current point in life, he can take a contraceptive too.

errrrm ladies time to rejoice????

you really think women are going to rejoice about this???

maybe initiallly but as soon as it becomes apparent men have the power of life, women will be enraged.

women have the authority to murder unborn babies without consulting the father, they will not be happy to find out that it is men who decide when to have children

women who abandon their fertility to pursue the feminist adgenda often trick men into getting them pregnant, if this pill is effective millions of men will take it religiously to prevent themselves getting tricked and trapped by last chance thots

women will not be rejoicing when the effects of this are realised, but thank the doctors for developing this lifeline for men and allowing them to avoid the pitfalls of sleeping with desperate thots ie child support for a child they arent even allowed to see.

now if we can just get those robots to be more life like

Kinda thinking a robot's the best you could do, smelly. Only problem is, once they've perfected it, then there's the matter of affording it!
