Grudges and feuds.....makes a forum's moods

Post by eddie on Wed Feb 19, 2014 9:29 pm

So many posters have feuds that last months, even years!

Is it this, that prevents good posting on a forum? Does it stifle debate?
Does feuding eventually bring a forum down?

Why do people hold grudges and continue to dislike someone over what happened on a forum?

Are forum "arguments" and grudges, really stupid and childish?

I think its a weird sort of stress relief coping mechanism similar to getting hung up on soap operas

I think sphinx is right. Some people get so wrapped up it it becomes their own personal drama haha. I must admit it can seem like that at times. Generally though people do form opinions of individuals which clouds any arguments they have with those people.

As long as people don't let it affect their life away from the forums it shouldn't matter though Smile

I think it is a way of relieving stress sometimes for some people. It's easy to take their anger out on a faceless person.

I used to think it was mainly women that were bitchy but it's clear to me, since joining forums, that men are just as bad!!!

Les, do you hold grudges against people in real life or on forums?

I don't hold grudges against people at all tbh; I'd rather just get on with life. There are however people who I just dislike; such as the knobhead above  Laughing

Honestly the only thing I can think of is there is no substance in their lives; grudges give them something to think about- not a nice thing but when there is a void there it doesn't really matter what fill it- that's my thought on it anyway.

Yes and sometimes a little jealousy perhaps, too?

How can someone on a forum get under your skin so much that you have to spend time disliking them, or feuding or holding a grudge? It's so stupid.

For people who spend a substantial amount of time of their lives posting I guess they become absorbed in it- it's very stupid I agree  Sad

I actually wrote in a PM to Dean the other day at IAF that my idea for NewsFix was always to try to have a forum where people acted with the same circumspection they would in public, or at a friend's house, rather than being a place to give free reign to your id.

I got hacked on missing Madeleine forum by a serial hacker (far too long to explain and the only person who can back me on this who's here, is nems, but she won't) and that's why I said to delete Pm's because I was paranoid at the time.

Nothing at all to do with sphinx.

Nothing at all to do with sphinx.

Well, you told me to delete my PM's on ADO, you can deny it all you want, but that's what you said.

Forums are like soap operas. I don't hold a grudge against any posters, the arguments are simply a bit of fun - specially when the other party throws a hissy fit and goes into one!  Twisted Evil
