Today I was walking along minding my own business in town, and a woman came right towards me grabbed and squeezed my arm really tightly, looked right into my face with quite a nasty expression on hers and said "Sorry"....then she just walked off without a second glance.

I didn't react....for a minute I thought she might have thought she knew me..but she was a complete stranger.

Aren't some people odd?

Watch (worn on the other wrist) and all my fingers are intact. Razz

I'm not sure how other people would react if a complete stranger made a beeline for them and deliberately grabbed and squeezed their arm, apologise, and walk quickly away.
It was hardly an assault, though she did actually hurt my arm a bit.

I would know her again I think...tall, blonde hair scraped back in a bun, middle aged and she looked middle class....just an ordinary looking woman acting in an extraordinary fashion really because the expression on her face was one of nastiness as she did this.

She probably mistook you for someone she knew--for worse, not better, thus explaining the strange, hostile look on her face.  In mid-greeting she probably realized her mistake...turned and hurried off, quite embarrassed.

We'll never know, but that would be my interpretation of the event.  I just wonder what would have happened had she continued to mistake you for that other person.

Thats the thought that occurred to me too Quill. She had walked away before I could react, but whoever she mistook me for, she obviously wasn't keen on them judging by her facial expression.Mad

If I was her and had made the same mistake I would at least have had the manners to apologise. Rolling Eyes

Means 'forgiveness' in English.  E.g.:

Vă cer iertare pentru aceasta......I apologise most profusely for that.

Possibly an answer.

She looked just like an ordinary English woman....fair hair and skin.

The odd thing was she said 'sorry' as aggressively as she grabbed my arm, and at the same time.
My OH who saw her thought she was going to snatch my bag, he told me to check she hadn't nicked my purse, but she wasn't after my bag, it was clearly my arm she aimed for.

Im not the nervous type but I admit it did unsettle me for a few minutes.

My implication being that she could have been of Romanian origin. Sadly, Romanians do have a certain reputation for an overwhelming desire to acquire the property of other people in this country, and particularly in London.

My congratulations on your ability to include the diacritic accent in a post. I never managed to master the technique.

Yeah, that's why I thought she was still in an angry mood. Romanian/Bulgarian/ Moldovan people are not forgiving people. They think aggressiveness.

She definitely didnt look East European Quill, she looked and dressed like a middle aged middle class English woman.

We will never know....unless I see her around town again, and I might just see if she recognises me, I think she would.

That reminds me of a time I was at a bus stop and this odd woman got off the bus walked right up to me and said my name, right in my face as clear as the day.

She walked off and I shouted after her, “Come back strange lady!”

Your lady may have been a time traveller! Shocked
She did something to you in the future and bumped into you today for the thing she did in another tomorrow!
Okay I may have had too many whiskeys.

Yes, I've used that line...when I was younger.

Now that you have us all writing scripts, I see her as a former prisoner in one of those Bulgarian labor camps, who thought she recognized a former guard and was going for your juggler. You very nearly got killed in that moment.

I was in a funeral once and after the interment was over a woman rushed out of the crowd and grabbed my arm, although this lady was spoke, the conversation went sort of:
'Jane, how are you, I haven't seen you ---you are Jane aren't you' because I was presumably looking confused
Me 'um no my name isn't Jane'
Her looking equally bemused and embarrassed 'oh sorry you are the image of Jane ?'
Just mistaken identity - doppleganger?

Yes, that happens a lot, people mistake someone for someone else.
I didnt get the feeling this was what was happening the other day though.
