Parents of girl, six, who was repeatedly sexually assaulted by boys in the playground win five-figure payout after complaining they were offered no help or apology

The parents of a six-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted by boys in a school playground have won a five-figure payout from the local council.

The pupil, who cannot be named but is referred to as 'Bella', was left a 'broken little girl' by the assaults which left her with physical injuries, suffering nightmares and afraid to leave the home.

Her parents said they were offered no help by the school and had to pay for counselling for their daughter.

The local authority has not admitted liability but has paid out five-figure compensation to Bella's parents, BBC News reported.

The pupils who allegedly assaulted her could not face criminal action as children younger than 10 cannot be prosecuted.

Bella's mother told the BBC: 'We had a broken little girl who had been seriously sexually assaulted repeatedly over a number of weeks in school, feeling unsafe in school and she had nothing.'

The girl's parents alleged that staff had not been properly trained on how to spot the signs of sexual abuse.

One staff member had allegedly seen Bella with her underwear out of place and one of the attackers nearby.

Bella's mother said: 'It matters for her I think when she's older. She can make some sense of how she could be so seriously sexually assaulted so many times in a place where she should have been safe.'

The school and local authority cannot be named in order to protect the young victim's identity.

Statistics suggest there were hundreds of sexual assaults, including allegations of rape, reported at schools last year.

Figures have shown that more than 70 per cent of pupils aged between 16 and 18 hear sexual name calling used towards girls several times a week.

Where were the adults who should be supervising when the children are in the school playground?
How come no one realised what was happening, the little girl may not have said anything, but surely she showed signs she was distressed, why was this allowed to happen repeatedly.

And how horrific that little boys of six are sexually abusing their class mate, God knows what kind of homes they come from.

I'm not sure what they've done exactly. Perhaps put their hands up her skirt. Sad to say this went on when I was at school. Though not on this scale. Kids see too much too soon, and are being made sexually aware way before they should.

It doesnt go into detail, but if the girl was left with injuries it sounds like it was more than lads pulling her skirt up.
No matter what happened, the little girl was having nightmares and is described as being 'broken' and scared to leave the home.

Young kids have always been curious sexually, the problem now is they often see images and films that are so explicit many adults are shocked....so how can 6 year olds see all that and remain innocent?

They sure as hell can over here.

Schools [and hospitals and public departments generally] do not want any whiff of scandal. Bad publicity of any sort is ruinous to them. Hence they deliberately play things down - or just gloss over complaints, hoping it all blows over.

See, to apologise is to admit something went wrong. Easier for them to say nothing and sweep it under the carpet and hope for the best. They'll try to fob you off with a few mealy mouthed words and send you on your way. It's up to you to be defiant and make a fuss.

School authorities are probably forbidden to apologise too hastily - just like motorists are forbidden by insurance companies to apologise at the scene of an accident even if they know it's their fault.

Which has been our point regarding letting kids be kids and not mini adults.

Yes, but you actually have to put time in and parent properly to see that happens.
How many parents allow young kids unsupervised access on the internet?
How many ignore their kids and spend hours on end messing with their phones whilst the kids are getting up to all sorts?
I wonder if thats exactly what happened when this child was repeatedly being sexually assaulted under the noses of whoever was supposed to be supervising the children in the playground.....because the adults in charge were certainly not keeping watch on what was happening.
