First topic message reminder :

For the third year in a row, millennials who participated in the World Economic Forum's Global Shapers Survey 2017 believe climate change is the most serious issue affecting the world today.

Nearly half (48.8%) of the survey participants chose climate change as their top concern, and 78.1% said they would be willing to change their lifestyle to protect the environment.

Below are the top-10 most concerning world issues, according to millennials:

10. Lack of economic opportunity and unemployment (12.1%)

9. Safety / security / well being (14.1%)

8. Lack of education (15.9%)

7. Food and water security (18.2%)

6. Government accountability and transparency / corruption (22.7%)

5. Religious conflicts (23.9%)

4. Poverty (29.2%)

3. Inequality (income, discrimination) (30.8%)

2. Large scale conflict / wars (38.9%)

1. Climate change / destruction of nature (48.8%)

Your graph shows data from one place, and is directly responded to by the article didge posted.

Both didge and wolfie have posted a wide range of studies which you have shown no sign of having read or responded to.

Why is your one graph about one place concrete evidence better than the majority of scientists and studies?

Answer: it isn't, you are only displaying arrogance, as you so after do when finding one piece of information you think tells you everything.

Cool

Tommy is full of shit...

C&p'ing distorted graphs and misleading claims from denialist propaganda.blogsites..

Blithely throwing around meaningless 'power words' like "science, experts and data" without even understanding the meaning of those big words, let alone the basic underying principles..

The graph correlates with other warm and cooler periods that we already know existed elsewhere in the world too!!!

You cannot seriously be trying to claim that the overall trends shown, were not present in the rest of the world!!!

Of course they don't, Tommy. It gets colder and hotter at different times in different places.

Believe it or not, it's warm in Australia right now! And cold in July!

Poor little Tommykins...

Seems the poor little muppet can't differentiate between historical localised weather patterns in Greenland and Britain, and global long term climatic patterns..

Probably can't expect any better from Tommy, though, when he doesn't even recognise the differences between "weather" and "climate" --  silly twat probably thinks the two terms mean the same thing, and believes that they are interchangeable  ?

You two idiots obviously don't understand what I mean by 'overall trends', and you both obviously don't understand the 10000 year graph I posted, as you seem to think that it is just a weather forecast/record for only one place in the world... and you think it bares no significance related to the wider global trend of temperatures...

Maybe you should try looking at it harder and try harder in understanding what is shown...!

And while you're at it... maybe you could tell us what evidence you have for any global temperatures over the past 2000, 5000 or 10000 years...???

Maybe you can write to all the major scientists, tommy. Since despite their decades of experience, research and qualifications, you, an armchair conspiracy theorist, apparently know better than all of them.

The 10000 year graph shows majority of time it was warmer than now.

Nowhere!!!

Yes you are very stupid, because you simple cannot take on the facts but try to deligitimize the source

Yeah...?

Well... the first lie by skepticalscience here, is their claim that the ice core data graph doesn't show anything from 1855 to present date...

If you look at the graph I posted... it says the data shows up to 1950...!

Also... the climate change lobby claims of actual warming over the last 100 years as well as their more recent figures, are highly questionable too, as they have been caught out falsifying data for a start... plus the inherent unreliability in accuracy of any of the earlier data gathered "since records began"...!!!

Easterbrook plots the temperature data from the GISP2 core, as archived here. Easterbrook defines “present” as the year 2000. However, the GISP2 “present” follows a common paleoclimate convention and is actually 1950. The first data point in the file is at 95 years BP. This would make 95 years BP 1855 — a full 155 years ago, long before any other global temperature record shows any modern warming. In order to make absolutely sure of my dates, I emailed Richard Alley, and he confirmed that the GISP2 “present” is 1950, and that the most recent temperature in the GISP2 series is therefore 1855.
This is Easterbrook’s main sleight of hand. He wants to present a regional proxy for temperature from 155 years ago as somehow indicative of present global temperatures. The depths of his misunderstanding are made clear in a response he gave to a request from the German EIKE forum to clarify why he was representing 1905 (wrongly, in two senses) as the present. Here’s what he had to say:
The contention that the ice core only reaches 1905 is a complete lie (not unusual for AGW people). The top of the core is accurately dated by annual dust layers at 1987. There has been no significant warming from 1987 to the present, so the top of the core is representative of the present day climate in Greenland.
Unfortunately for Don, the first data point in the temperature series he’s relying on is not from the “top of the core”, it’s from layers dated to 1855. The reason is straightforward enough — it takes decades for snow to consolidate into ice.
And so to an interesting question. What has happened to temperatures at the top of Greenland ice sheet since 1855? Jason Box is one of the most prominent scientists working on Greenland and he has a recent paper reconstructing Greenland temperatures for the period 1840-2007 (Box, Jason E., Lei Yang, David H. Bromwich, Le-Sheng Bai, 2009: Greenland Ice Sheet Surface Air Temperature Variability: 1840–2007. J. Climate, 22, 4029–4049. doi: 10.1175/2009JCLI2816.1). He was kind enough to supply me with a temperature reconstruction for the GRIP drilling site — 28 km from GISP2. This is what the annual average temperature record looks like (click for bigger version):

Arrow

While I was looking up my latest links for my earlier posts, I came across two sources of that anti-science/anti-climate propaganda so beloved by Tommy...

One key source for pushing that distorted and misrepresented Greenland graph that Tommy loves so much is a "born again"/evangelical/creationist sect in the USA --  where their historical timeline only starts around 2050 BC  !   That's around 2,400 years later than most other fundi' Creationist groups; never mind the true geological age of this planet..

The second major denialist group was 3 economics lecturers from Stanford University (yep, that well known centre for science and climate studies --  not !)  --  where their agenda is clearly to promote global warming as being "beneficial" to the US economy, and especially agriculture (!),  while providing more shonky ammo' for the Trump administration to fight their opponents with.

You missed the best one, that used by Tommy. Don Easterbrook

Oh and for the record, some climate scientists are evangical christians that support climate change mate

You will love this though

Don Easterbrook is a geology professor at Western Washington University who has been making predictions of imminent global cooling for the best part of two decades.

Easterbrook, a regular at climate science denial meetings run by the Heartland Institute, rejects the role of increasing CO2 and thinks that all you need for predicting future climates is to look at natural cycles of the past.

So in 2001 Easterbrook thought: “If the cycles continue as in the past, the current warm cycle should end in the next few years, and global warming should abate, rather than increase, in the coming decades.”

So it was any minute now for cooling. In 2006 Easterbrook said: “The current warm cycle should end soon and global temperatures should cool.”

In 2008 he wrote that his “predicted cooling seems to have already begun”.

That year he also wrote: “In a nutshell, in 2001 I put my reputation on the line and published my predictions for entering a global cooling cycle about 2007 (plus or minus three to five years), based on past glacial, ice core, and other data ... If the present cooling trend continues, the [United Nations climate change] reports will have been the biggest farce in the history of science.”

So, what happened?

According to NOAA, the following year, 2009, was the fifth warmest year on record, 2010 tied for the warmest, then 2011 and 2012 were relatively cool at the 11th and 10th warmest years. When the data was in for 2013, it was the fourth warmest year. The years 2014, 2015 and 2016 were all progressively ranked warmest on record.

That global cooling is just round the corner though. Any minute now.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/planet-oz/2017/dec/19/checkmate-how-do-climate-science-deniers-predictions-stack-up

And what was announced today?

2018 temperatures set to be among hottest on record: UN

Firstly... I don't know why you are banging on about somebody called "Easterbook"... as I have never posted anything about him/her at all... and I have no idea what you are going on about...!!!

As i'm sure you don't really know either... as it is obvious you are just posting wafflle from somewhere else... without even reading/understanding any of it... and you obviously don't even read/understand any of what you are trying to argue against either...!!!

Now...

Can anyone show us any credible graphs of historical temperatures over the last 10000 years...???

Or... should we discount any/all claims of historical temperatures before "records began" (about 100 years ago), as being completely inaccurate/unreliable, and a waste of time and money in even trying to scientificaly investigate/establish...???

Funny how some people will happily accept scientists claims of estimated historical temperatures over millions of years here on earth, without question...

But they can't bring themselves to believe the much more accurate scientific analysis and account of the temperatures over the recent few thousand years...!

And on top of that... even though the 'climate change' "scientists" have been caught (red handed) lying multiple times, as well as falsifying/manipulating actual recorded temp data from last few decades... plus the fact that their predictions have always been wrong, and their long term future predictions are based on fantasy using completely unrealistic speculative computer generated models... BUT THERE ARE STILL PLENTY OF BRAINWASHED IDIOTS AROUND WHO BELIEVE THIS CLAPTRAP!!!

lol!
