A major criminal investigation has been launched after suspected bombs were sent to the homes of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and CNN's headquarters.

The apparent explosive device targeting Mrs Clinton was discovered when screening post on Tuesday evening and the suspect packages targeting Mr Obama and the Time Warner Centre, which houses the CNN newsroom, were found on Wednesday.

It comes just days after George Soros, the billionaire philanthropist and prominent Democrat donor, was also targeted with a suspected pipe bomb.

The White House has condemned the attempted attacks, saying "these terrorising acts are despicable'".

Investigators were reportedly looking into whether the attacks were linked in any if there are similarities between the devices.

I'm thinking, this is the work of the White House.  This is  perhaps the Reichstag fire:

Wiki wrote:Hitler's government ... attributed the fire to communist agitators in general. After the fire, the Reichstag Fire Decree was passed. The Nazi Party used the fire as evidence that communists were plotting against the German government, and the event is considered pivotal in the establishment of Nazi Germany.

According to the events of the 30's, the timing is right for an internal coup in the US.  The pending election is the threat, as is the issuing of findings of the Mueller investigation.

And...Russia is behind Trump.

That does not make any sense.

As why paint themselves in a bad light, when the vast majority of people would find sympathy towards the Democrats over this?

One could easily argue this is democrats to paint a poor light on the right. Which I very much doubt also

Its either Far Right extremists (most likely in my opinion)
Islamic extremists
Far left extremists
Russians (again highly likely)
Anarchists

Because, they are the power.  They will deny any involvement themselves, but they will be called upon to do something--make some arrests, bring in the military, whatever.

It's an opportunity to tighten control.  Remember, Putin is behind Trump. Putin is used to this kind of stuff. He's very well practiced.

Again it makes zero sense, as under the Nazi's they had complete control and most of the killings they carried out. Was within their own party. They erradicated the leftist socialist elements from the Party and SA. They then arrested and sent to concentration camps oppoisition leaders.

So again your view makes no sense and is not even a comparrison to the "Knight of the Long Knives"

Again, they would look to make an attack on their own people to gain sympathy and not the opposition. As again this will only generate sympathy. Hence this is the works of extremists. Who do not care, about elections, they care about taking lives. Which extremists are behind this, we are yet to fine out, but know doubt is either Far right or the Russians to me.

Putin has a track record of not giving a shit and taking out people he does not like, just to stir things up

Yes, exactly like this situation with Trump. Ie, start the fire, blame the other guys, and tighten control.

You cannot make it up.

Normally the liberals after an Islamic terrorist attack, are saying. We dont know who has done this. Its most likley someone mentally ill. We should await until there is more details.

When liberals are the target, this automatically changes, to Quill states its trump. No case of mental illness and no need to wait for any investigation

What can i say, how badly some people do a volte face on when the intended target is someone different.

Again to me, this is either the Far Right or the Russians

Going off a fire, was what the Nazi's did, to gain sympathy for themselves and then place mesaures against the opposition. The targets in this case were the opposition.

This is not going to gain sympathy for the Republicans, but the Democrats

Hence the absurdity of your claim

The sympathy/victim factor is negligible.  The important ingredients are: (1) a wrong; (2) the blame; (3) take action.

Indeed, they might use the victim factor to throw off the scent.

But as seen your view makes no point, when the intended targets were the Nazis back then

Here the intended target is the opposition

Hence how then can Trump do what Hitler did to the opposition?

Hence your view is so ridiculous, it makes zero sense

You simple want to believe its Trump, in the hope this would finish him

Again this is going to provide plenty of sympathy for the Democrats at a very crucial time, with the mid term elections coming up.

Which I think has little baring. I think its either far right extremists who simple want to create more discord and ignite a civil war. Or its Putin, who wants to achieve the same

It's not the identical plan. As I said above, they might be using the victims to throw suspicion off of themselves. That may be a refinement on the plan.

The important things are: (1) the atrocity; (2) the blame; and (3) the action. The third point may be the aim all along, the rest is set-up and cover.

This is the age of anything's possible. A racist, child-rapist elected to the presidency. A president who supports Nazism and white nationalism. A gang-rapist appointed to the Supreme Court? A campaign manager indicted for fraud and income tax evasion? The president's own lawyer indicted and pleading guilty for fraud and violation of election laws...and stating on the record that the President was a co-conspirator? A tax cut for the rich, touting it as for the poor and middle class? Destroying trade relationships. Destroying defense pacts? Defending a regime that has just murdered?

Very strange things are happening. Is this any different?

Come on, this was some far-right group. The targets make it pretty obvious.

That would presuppose that the bombs were not real.  All fake.  I mean sending real bombs to yourself, for appearances, is pretty reckless.  The statement that the bombs were all fake has not been announced.  If that turns out to be the case, I'll revise my theory.

On the other hand, one thing we know for sure: these bombs have been sent to the people on the perfect Trump hit list.  If the bombs are real, who benefits?

Let's face it, if there were no "right wing nutters" around to take the blame, there are members of this forum who would invent 'em.

Insinuating blame on Trump and/or the Republicans strikes me, as an outsider, to be just too blindingly, obviously convenient. They are clearly not among the nicest people on the planet, but nor are they stupid.

And is the theory that it might have been a sort of inside job, with renegade Democrats or even "Left wing nutters" trying to build up some sympathetic momentum in advance of the coming elections really so outlandish?

Quill questions that theory, not unreasonably, on the ground that the damn things might actually have gone off...but do we really know that?

Terrorists of either political extreme have access to, if not actual experience of,  some pretty awesome technology - even if they have to rely entirely on more established terrorist bombmaking websites.

The possibility simply cannot be dismissed out of hand.

And, of course, there is historic precedence to be considered: Just who, for example, burned down the Reichstag in 1933? And why?

Could this latest atrocity in the USA be yet another case of a "false flag action"?

(I now look forward eagerly to seeing yet another mindless, manic "right wing nutter" rant by Wolfie, with the obligatory targets being Tommy, Smelly, Nicko, DYK, Stormee, Major, myself.......)

The truth will be out soon enough.
The FBI are on the case and apparently the US Postal Service have amongst the most stringent security anywhere. EVERY parcel and poster is videoed. The noose will be tightening on the culprit(s) as we post..
My guess it is a group of redneck far right nut jobs who adore Trump so much.
Good vote winner for the democrats if they nick them before the mid terms.

I think that you Brits have a different kind of RW'er.  Over here, there are two kinds.  The NE businessman, intelligent, calculating and quite cunning, is one type.

But the southern, brain-dead, marry-your-sister sort is another type.  The latter were once called the 'deplorables', but now we just call them the Trumpsters.  But Trump didn't invent them...he found them.  They really exist, and existed long before he came along.

That aptly describes Donald Trump. Add unorthodox, even abnormal, and you round out the picture. That's why I insist that you have to include him in the list of culprits.

That is the big question.  Clearly, US politics have gone awry.  But there has got to be some consistency that makes sense to someone.

None of these bombs have gone off. They might have been designed as 'almost-but-not-quite' devices, in which case they could have been anyone's game. The question is, was this a real terrorist plot, or simply some sort of dramatic communication?

The US Post Office have some of the best surveillance in the world.  Very stupid guy that goes to post offices to mail illicit  packages.

In addition to the FBI, there is a strange force that was developed during the prohibition days--the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) Bureau, that is involved on all such cases.  Every bomb has a signature (bomb  makers have habits and predilections), and ATF has files on every one of them in the world.  If they don't know who he is, they know who his teacher was.

Laughing

Once again, Fred proves to be nothing more than a big-mouthed and bullying fuckwit; with his usual more-reasoned replies obviously overtaken lately by his obvious disdain and contempt for such uppity foreigners as Ben, veya, Quill, and myself, and our corrupting influence on any remaining Brit "lefties" likes of Andy ...

All I did above was dare to agree with Dodge's position on this thread -- I did not bother to blame either Trump or the Repub's..

Yet in his infinite wisdom, delusional ol' Fred attempts to credit me with statements and conclusions I simply haven't made.

As for Fred's claims for the looney left and false flags, nobody has actually denied that possibility here -- however, the simple fact remains that in the USA the great majority of domestic terrorism still comes from far-right wing loners, militia style groups and fringe loons..

As for the Democrat Party itself, they are still a mostly right wing political organisation by international standards, (though with healthcare, labour and environmental policies that might seem to be somewhat "socialist" by Fred's normal corporate-fascist standards..) -- with their moderates and "liberals" being "centrists" in reality, when compared with most other 'western' democracies...

In fairness to Fred, I think he was referring to my theory that the White House is behind it. I did propose that.

I did so because the habit today is to take the most outlandish theory, because there is a new normal about. You have better than a 50-50 chance of being right.

Absolutely correct; it is why I agreed that the proposition should not be dismissed entirely out of hand, suggesting as possible historical precedent the Reichstag fire that resulted in many convincing theories that it had been a deceptive and devious covert "false flag" operation. (A reference to the old pirate trick of flying various national flags from the masthead of their ships in order to deceive merchantmen by lulling them into a false sense of safety and security.)

They have caught the guy.  This morning the FBI arrested a guy in his 50's in Plantation, Florida.  I believe all the bombs were sent from Florida.

Also taken into evidence was the perp's white van.  On the side windows were life-size decals of the presidential seal.  A press conference is scheduled in about two hours.

We'll see.

The guy is identified as Cesar Sayoc, 56.

Reuters wrote:FBI arrests man in Florida suspected of sending parcel bombs

By Zachary Fagenson and Bernie Woodall,
Reuters • October 26, 2018

PLANTATION, Fl. (Reuters) - Federal authorities arrested a man in Florida on Friday suspected of sending at least a dozen parcel bombs to high-profile critics of U.S. Failing Cheeto-Faced Ferret-Wearing Shit Gibbon days ahead of congressional elections, officials said.

Two federal law enforcement officials named the suspect as Cesar Sayoc, born in 1962. He was taken into custody in the parking lot of an AutoZone store in Plantation, near Fort Lauderdale, where two witnesses told Reuters they heard a loud blast at the time of the arrest.

Local television stations showed investigators using a large blue tarp to cover a white van that was plastered with decals and stickers, before removing it on a truck.

A federal law enforcement official said more arrests could follow. Another law enforcement source said charges would likely be brought by federal prosecutors in Manhattan.

The U.S. Justice Department was due to hold a news conference at 2:30 p.m. EDT. (1830 GMT), a spokeswoman said.

No one had claimed responsibility for parcel bombs, which were denounced by authorities as terrorism, and came less than two weeks ahead of U.S. congressional elections that could alter the balance of power in Washington.

Police found two of the suspicious packages on Friday addressed to U.S. Senator Cory Booker and James Clapper, the former U.S. director of national intelligence, officials said.

The 11th package was addressed to Booker, a Democratic senator from New Jersey, and was discovered at a mail sorting facility in Florida, the FBI said. A 12th package was addressed to Clapper at cable network CNN and was intercepted at a New York City post office, a federal law enforcement official said.

A thirteenth suspicious parcel was discovered addressed to Democratic U.S. Senator Kamala Harris of California, CNN said.

A federal law enforcement official said earlier on Friday that the focus had intensified on Florida as a key location for the investigation and possible point of origin of the packages.

Police closed roads around the AutoZone parking lot where Sayoc was arrested, and helicopters flew overhead.

A man named Dre, a manager at a used car dealership next door to the AutoZone, said he heard a loud noise that sounded like an explosion shortly after 11 a.m.

"I heard like a bomb," Dre, who declined to give his full name, said in a telephone interview. "I opened the door and saw the FBI there."

Dre said they were told by FBI agents to stay inside as the area was on lockdown.

A woman who lives nearby and declined to give her name said she was in her yard weeding on Friday morning when she heard a loud bang, saw smoke and heard a lot of shouting.

'SWIFT JUSTICE'

Florida Governor Rick Scott said he had been briefed on developments in the investigation.

"ANY attempt to harm others is disgusting & has no place in Florida or our country," Scott wrote on Twitter. "I appreciate the hard work of law enforcement to bring swift justice to whoever is responsible for these cowardly acts."

CNN reported that Sayoc has a criminal history and ties to New York. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report. All the people targeted by the suspicious packages have often been maligned by right-wing critics. They included former President Barack Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden, former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and billionaire Democratic Party donor George Soros.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has said that at least five of the packages bore a return address from the Florida office of U.S. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a former chair of the Democratic National Committee.

There has been an outcry from Trump's critics, who charged that his inflammatory rhetoric against Democrats and the press has created a climate for politically motivated violence.

After first calling for unity and civil discourse on Wednesday, Trump lashed out on Thursday at the "hateful" media. His supporters accused Democrats of unfairly suggesting the president was to blame for the bomb scare.

On Friday, Trump said the incidents were distracting from successful efforts by Republican candidates.

"Republicans are doing so well in early voting, and at the polls, and now this "Bomb" stuff happens and the momentum greatly slows - news not talking politics," Trump wrote on Twitter. "Very unfortunate, what is going on. Republicans, go out and vote!"

None of the devices detonated and no one has been hurt. They were believed to have been fashioned from bomb-making designs widely available on the internet, according to a federal law enforcement source. Still, investigators have treated the devices as "live" explosives, not a hoax, officials said.

Investigators have declined to say whether they were built to be functional. Bomb experts and security analysts say that based on their rudimentary construction it appeared the devices were more likely designed to sow fear rather than to kill.

But two federal officials involved in the investigation cautioned that it was too early to say whether the devices were incapable of firing or were deliberately designed to frighten rather than explode.

Two packages were sent both to U.S. Representative Maxine Waters and to former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden. Others targeted for parcel bombs included former Attorney General Eric Holder, former CIA director John Brennan and actor Robert De Niro.

"I thank God no one's been hurt, and I thank the brave and resourceful security and law enforcement people for protecting us," De Niro said in a statement. "There's something more powerful than bombs, and that's your vote. People MUST vote!"

OK, Quill, and now hard evidence begins to emerge and accusations can at least be based on actual knowledge rather than on the sort of knee-jerk, politically-obsessed and unconsidered reaction that we have seen lurking about in some quarters of the forum.

I would imagine that both you and I consider that anyone, or any organisation, has an absolute right to be deemed innocent until proven guilty.

My whole approach has been that it is best to consider all the facts and circumstances before reaching a verdict.

Interesting, he claims to be either native American of the Seminole tribe or Fillipino. Or ethnically both. So hardly a candidate for white supremacy.

So he also had a charge against him in 2002 as well. Where he was convicted of a threat to 'throw, place, project or discharge any destructive device'. Also has a history of making terrorist threats to judges. Possilibility he is Christian. Unsure though.

Now the question to ask, is whether Trump inspired this man to violence. Or is he simple a man of hate, based on his past record and the countless hate filled posts he has made on social media, about Muslims, refugees?

Well as seen I can dismiss the historical element based on that proposed by Quill, which would be the opposite to what happened under the Nazi. They attempted to make themselves look the victims and not the opposition, through an attack on them. So lets not forget that the bases for Quills argument was that the Republicans were behind this against the opposition. How then is that even comparable to history? Or why would anyone even attempt such a flase flag, that would clearly backfire with ratings and support? When its the opposition that has been the target off this attack. You are simple moving the goal posts and poorly I might add, to make something he stated fit. If he stated that the reasoning was the Democrats used a false flag opperation to make the Republicans look bad, then that would be comparable slightly. As they would be the opposition doing this and not those in power

He has already been charged in the Southern District of New York, where the bombs were sent. Once in the criminal justice system, he is entitled to the presumption of innocence...as well as other due process rights.
