Police urge public to report insults that hurt feelings, but aren't crimes

Post by Didge on Tue Sep 11, 2018 6:15 am

A police force has urged people to report insults which make them feel bad even if they are not crimes. Under the slogan ‘Hate Hurts’, South Yorkshire Police have called upon members of the public to report incidents they know not to be criminal in order to build up a wider picture of actions which cause distress to people within the community. Non-crime hate incidents can include offensive or insulting comments made online, in person or in writing, but the campaign has drawn criticism from people who say the police have enough work to do.

The move has come after an incident in Barnsley’s market square involving a woman wielding a foot long kitchen knife, who was heard shouting ‘Kill, Kill, kill’’ by witnesses. 28-year-old Ayaan Ali has been charged with attempted murder, but police have said that since the incident, there has been an increase in Islamophobic outbursts on social media and in the streets of south Yorkshire. Despite the attack, number of local leaders have questioned the feasibility of the new initiative, particularly in light of squeezed resources.

In May this year, South Yorkshire Police faced a violent crime wave, which saw them deal with five murders in just 13 days, and local officials have questioned the wisdom in using police time to deal with non-criminal actions. Councillor Robert Bernard said: “How do they propose to investigate incidents that are not crimes? If it’s not a crime then there is no way to investigate it, it should be so obvious.

‘‘I think somebody working in PR or social media has not thought this through.  I don’t know where they are going to find the resources from.

‘‘If they don’t have the resources to investigate other things, how are they going to find the resources to investigate these?  Fortunately tweeting doesn’t cost anything.’’

Beggars belief.

Next up,  they will probably have few locals start insulting everybody around them --  and encouraging their "victims" to report it,  simply to get the numbers up to some ridiculous level...

And yet again today, a police spokesman is whining piteously that the police service (it used to be a police force when their job was to catch villains) is so strapped for cash that they can't do their job and keep the law-abiding public safe.

My late brother, a decorated former South Yorkshire cop of the old school, will be spinning in his grave.

See, that is the difference between here and there.

There, Tories are incensed if you use any curse words.

Here, our own president can grab pussies and have a laugh about it. Razz

Well if that is the choice between the 2 evils I'm very glad I live here not there. Cool

Absolutely. That's why I want a separate Pacific Coast. Laughing

That's because our English Tories are decent, polite and cultured...whereas you lot are, well, uncouth.

Everything that Republicans are not. Keep saying it...perhaps they will get the message.

That interview simply confirmed my long held opinion that the political post of elected "Police and Crime Commissioner" - another useless institution copied from the Americans, like Hallowe'en trick-or-treat, - has led to the squandering of millions of pounds of local taxpayers' money that would have been far better spent on paying for more cops out on the streets catching villains and protecting the public, better schools, more community support for aged and disadvantaged people and even emptying bloody dustbins with reasonable regularity.

Hartley-Brewer absolutely scewered the pompous, pretentious, prattling moron, who was apparently incapable of appreciating why catching, breaking up and prosecuting perpetrators of the organised and systematic rape and abuse of young girls by gangs of Asian men in his constituency town of Rotherham was not more important and of higher priority than having his staff spend more of their time listening to telephone whinges about and investigating non-crimes that had hurt some fucking snowflake's feelings.
