First topic message reminder :

Something or nothing?
What kind of poster do you think you are....because we all fall into categories.
Interesting, interested, helpful, a watcher, a leader, a liar, argumentative, easily influenced, set in solid beliefs?
So many different times of posters.

I wonder if we see ourselves as others see us...I doubt it somehow. Laughing

To not be liked by some proves you are saying things that matter, see my sig Mags......... who wants to be a Stepford poster anyway?
I love you saying you see names on the forum as people....thats exactly my pov too.
Behind every avi and mostly made up name, is a living breathing person, some are nice some are not so nice, but we are all human beings.

They are only things that matter to people with the same mindset Syl

I like Magica, but also disagree on other views she has. So you view that things claimed to matter is false.

I simple like her, for being honest, not what she believes. To hold such views is tribal and why through centuries we have seen people be against others being friends outside their tribe

So to be not likes,  has little to do with what matters, as that is subjective. Based on the personal view of the individual

I am majorly disliked by a few posters on here and its more based on me being frank and hurtful

My point is if someone doesn't like you because of the opinions you hold, or more likely on forums because of the views they THINK you hold, you know the ones that put people in little boxes and dont even hear what you really say....who cares whether those people like you or not?
I dont, Mags doesnt, and I doubt whether you do.

I agree many do this, but i do not, neither do you or Mags

I dont care whether people like me or not. Its really irrelevant

i agree people do not read replies, because they do hold a bias from the start

Exactly, so in forums as in real life, who gives a toss about people like that?

Sadly I do, but i care and hope I might help change them

I may never succeed, but will not stop trying

hence why i will always reason my case

Like i say, I dont care what they say about me, but will defend against what they say about others

Maybe you care too much, you always want people to agree with you, if they dont you hammer away at them.....you dont see yourself like this but I do, the good thing is you definitely encourage debate, and imo you are always honest and post from the heart.

Thats just the way you post, no doubt we all have our own style when we post, but as long as we are honest in the things we say thats OK.
There is always the ignore button (or willpower) to extract oneself from a debate if you feel its going round in circles.

Wrong.

I want people to come to an understanding that sees thsat their view could be wrong

In that they never actually challenge their own beliefs, as they do on those that radically support

So you are so wrong about me on this

I certainly push buttons, but for the right reasons. Its why people do end up disliking me.

I challenge their very core belief systems

I don't know Les.  Sassy's taken leave, Lurker sticks to memes, Irn is gone and veya only shows at night (on PST).  There are few lefties left (no pun intended).

And where is the deluge of prolific RWers tipping the balance?

There isn’t. People just like to whine about how unfair life is etc etc.
It’s boring.

But let me add...I came out more far left than wolf did on a political quiz.

I'm glad someone else has said it; I must say I have never detected the "far right" preponderance that is frequently cited and about which, if memory serves, Andy and Wolfie have previously complained.

I remember previously being referred to as "ultra Right", which I found highly amusing, and was routinely referred to as a "nazi" by a certain poster in another place, whereas around the solid Tory part of the country where I live I'm regarded as being a bit of a Leftie!

I always think it's ridiculous to view people as far this and far that, as if that somehow is the total sum of what they are, it's incredibly limiting and short sighted.

Yep! On flap I was considered “left” and I arrived here and was told I was “right”....but then that was by a crazy motherfucker and then those who joined in.

I’d say I’m more left, but not stupidly so. I cannot stand extremism in anything.

Didge you asked this:

Are you really telling me, that people know the real person, based on comments on a forum or social media?

And I think, that if you’ve posted with someone long enough, read enough of their posts, read between the lines and if you’re perceptive enough...then yes, you can almost know what that person is like.

I’ve met up with people off forums and they’re exactly the same.

If you are yourself when posting on a forum and not hiding under a false persona, I do believe over time we can get a good idea of how that person is in real life.

What a load of tosh and how and why people continually make poor and misleading views over people, based on what they read.

I will ask you, how many times have people misred what has been said in a text message?

It shows and proves again the problem of not being able to see the facial expressions of someone in a conversation. A massive argumnent against the Burka.

I dont hide anything, but you simple cannot really and truely know somebody from views expressed on a forum

I disagree actually.
Like I said, if someone is being themselves, and it soon becomes clear if people are being false, the written word can tell an awful lot about a person, especially on a forum like this where a wide variety of subjects are being discussed.

You can disagree all you like and this is what is wrong with some women at times (and some men), who think and perceive to think they know people. When in reality they have not got a bloody clue.

Yes I often take the piss saying I know people, but its said in the heat of arguments

The reality is nobody really knows people, until they get to know them in the person

You may like certain views expressed, but that does not mean or show how a person is really like

Take me. I use this place to let off steam and for fun. Which means you only see that side of me. Showing you have no conception of me in real life

Take me. I use this place to let off steam and for fun. Which means you only see that side of me. Showing you have no conception of me in real life
Well we will have to disagree.

Remember when people had pen pals, or communicated through letter writing?
Some people have fallen in love with the person they have corresponded with, when they do meet that person is exactly as they knew they would be.

Words are powerful, you dont have to be gazing into someone eyes to get a real feel of what they are like.

Absolutely. I can spot a mood a mile off even on a forum.
And, people have revealed things sometimes on here, that I had already kind of guessed at.

I am not denying people have fallen in lover through writing. That does not mean its real love. What you then need to show me is how long those relationships have lasted. Real love happens in person, when people meet. I mean this is what is wrong today, as many relationships are built around social media and that is what is wrong. They dont get to the know the real person, when they do not meet.

So I completely disagree and you completely can tell, if someone loves you by the look in their eyes. Anyone can write some bullshit and often they do, to entice someone to be with them. You only ever know and see this in the eyes of a person, that love is real. Words are simple transcribed from what comes from the mouth and mind.

Love is  love, whether it lasts or not is a different thing. How many people meet physically, fall in love and it doesn't last? Millions do and always have.
I believe the most popular way to meet a potential partner now is online.....I'm sure many of those relationships will be successful.

Apart from love....are you seriously saying you dont get a sense of how people are in reality just from reading what they write on this forum?
Even people who dont divulge much of their personal lives cant hide behind a persona for long....truth will out, and words are one of the best ways to find out the truth.

I disagree also on that. In many cases its lust and not love. Many people marry and get together based on lust. Love is something else altogether. Love has people go through some of the worst situations and still pull through together. When its lust they certainly do not and that is the difference between the two. So physical attraction often happens to be lust and not love.

I can form educated guesses from what people write, but that does not mean I know them simple by what they write. If people lay claim to think they do, they are simple not being honest with themselves. You can tell the mood of people, but in no way can you actually ever really know that person simple by what they post.

I often think that women are the worst at this, that they think they know best and can tell how they know someone. Yet in reality they are often wrong and mislead their friends with the worst advice in relationships. As they never hardly use etmpathic intelligence and see this from the opposite side. They cannot think like a man. The same vias versa with men thinking they know women.

Enduring love can develop no matter where people meet, online or in person.....so can lust, cyber affairs (if you are into that) can satisfy many......and thats without ever clapping eyes on that person face to face.

Women are generally (imo) better at reading people, may be down to nature, but women seem to generally  have a better sense of instinctively knowing who to trust or not, naturally we are not ever 100% right, but that makes us even more loveable.  I love you

Most relationships are built on lust not love?? ...Thats rubbish, an initial attraction is usually needed, but after that love can often develop, it may not last, but that doesn't mean it wasn't love at the time.
Women are great at helping one another and solving problems......they see beyond the black and white that many men deal in....and they can multi task.
After my own husband, if I ever needed help or advice, it would always be a woman friend I ask not a man.,,,why? because they are better at solving problems....especially emotional ones.

Nonsense. You claimed you could know people from what they post, and then you fancied disagreeing with those in this thread who said they could, so you took the opposite point of view just to troll. You don't fool everyone you know.

Its not rubbish but empahtically true

I mean, when you have arguments with your parents or children, you dont stop loving them. It only happens in cases of abuse, cimews etc. In relationships, that love does not endure and people split up, as its not really love but lust. As love always endures and why we end up loving those closet to us throughout our lives. The phsyical attraction people often have is based on that attraction, hence lust and not love. True love is different and hence it endures

You then end with one off the most sexist comments I have ever heard. In reality all my female friends come to me with relationship issues, because i am able to see things from the male perspective. When its seens ffrom the female perspective, then they are then not understanding their partner here. I do not even have to know their partner, to help them see, they maybe reading things wrong or even getting the wrong end of the stick. When men come to me with relationship problems, I advise them to speak to females to get a better balanced view

So to say they are better at solving provblems is not only sexist tosh, it shows how such an ingrained sexism has been formed here with you. I mean, if I need to resolve an issue, i will speak to someone with experince and knowledge. No matter thier gender.

Of course we dont stop loving people when we have arguments with them...and the love a parent has for a child is usually lifelong, romantic love often isn't.

True love between a man and a woman doesn't always endure, people change, but if they dont stay together for whatever reason that doesn't mean it wasn't true love once.

If that was one of the most sexist comments you have ever heard....you cant get out much.  Laughing

Then it never was really love but lust, as love does endure and  this is very much seen between families

So when people fail to get over problems, to me, it never is love between two people and it was thus always built on phsyical attraction, thus lust

It was quite an idiotic sexist comment and its no wonder so many realationships do go to pot, clearly when they seek the advice of women

lol!
