School staff inadvertently record foul-mouthed chat about autistic pupil on his mother's VOICEMAIL... after believing they had hung up

Post by Didge on Tue Jul 17, 2018 4:46 pm

A horrified mother heard foul-mouthed school staff insult her autistic son in a voicemail message after they thought she’d hung up. Leighanne Bromley, 29, from Coventry, said her jaw hit the ground when she first heard the message last week. Now the disgusted mother has called for the staff heard abusing her son to be suspended from RNIB Three Spires Academy in Coventry.

The special school, which has more than 50 per cent autistic pupils, posted an apology to Leighanne on its website on Friday.

A spokesman for the school said headteacher Rob Jones had been in direct contact with the mother since last week over the accident.

Leighanne said her son Harley, 10, was off school with acold.

A member of staff left a friendly voicemail last Tuesday enquiring after Harley's health and when he would be returning to school.

However believing she had hung up, the she goes on to say: 'And make sure he's off all f****** week.'

A man in the background adds: 'What about two weeks?'

What follows was an exchange between the woman and male member of staff joking about Harley being kept out of school until the end of term.

The message is obviously make sure you hang up before making derogatory remarks about some kid who probably drives the teachers mad with his disruptive behaviour.

Well then those teachers should not be working in a special school. Where 50% of the children have autism.

Being as this is going to lead to more disruptions than other schools, then they clearly have not the patience to deal with this and that is what is needed.

The obvious is very clear to me, the school should employ people who can deal with more disruption than others.

There's truth in what you both say, while people must realise how things are going to be in such a school, they are not robots and patience is finite in everyone, variable in each person depending on personality, what else is happening in their lives, and how difficult and demanding any day on the job can be.

In a perfect world the teachers would have the patience of a Saint and never say anything, however light heartedly about any of the kids they teach.
But teachers are human, and if the boy is happy at the school and they are addressing his recent bad behaviour, I don't think an off the cuff remark like this should warrant suspension.
The head has apologised, the mother has got her face in the paper for her 5 minutes.....I think she should get over it tbh.

Nobody are saying that are robots and understand people loose patience, but how is their views actually helping the child?

Its not and if those teachers had any denceny, they would personally apologise to the mother and child.

They are there to help and such views will fail the child, when it needs help here due to his behaviour. Which has only been recent.

You are still making poor excuses

Its a poor thing to say and shows an intolerant view towards the child, which then rightly the mother is not going to believe they have the childs best interest at heart

I doubt any of you in the work place would have and hear work collegues slag you off, wanting you to stay off longer as you are unwell and then say, they are just having a bad day. To claim its normal.

The reality is this, neither of you would like to be treated like this, so dont expect the child or mother to be

Teachers are meant to set an example and this could not be further from the case

I would be pretty annoyed if it was my child, but the main concern to me would be whether my child was being treated well generally at the school, I hope I wouldn't let an isolated incident like this colour my views.

I am not struck on people who run to the papers or plaster every grievance over social media rather than address the people involved and deal with it privately.
When the person who wants the publicity poses for the papers looking like a stand in for Danny Le Rue....I automatically think she cares more about getting her face in the papers than she cares about the well being of her son.

Well clearly the case is, the mother believes the child's best interest is not being met. Being she requested he be changed classes and this was denied. Well some people become more anxious when nothing is being done and feel like the school is just flipping them off. Hence why its a good thing to go public, in order than something actually gets done.

I have no way of knowing the full details here, but being clearly the mother is concerned, then making the school sit up and see more people are looking at them, may then actually have this properly dealt with and her child's problems actually taken to the level of care she believes she should happen

So a person going to the paper here, is clearing caring more about her child

So your assumptions, are to me what is wrong here

I am open to the school maybe has the child's best interest at heart, but this now makes it more public, for then the school actually helping this mother and child.

So maybe you need to keep an open mind more and not automatically assume people seek the attention of the media for themselves

This is something I have suggested for Eddie and Ben, so he can become a citizen. I would happilly write an article myself, with their permission to the media.

Does that mean, that is me garnering attention for myself?

This is what you cannot grasp and why its poor and wrong to immediatelly assume people do it for attentioon for themselves, when its blatantly clear this attention was for the best interest of her child.

Looking at the pic that accompanies the article you posted makes me think she wanted her 5 minutes.
I could be wrong, so could you, but demanding the teachers involved be suspended strikes me that she is unreasonable.

If before this happened she had no problems with the school, if they were addressing her childs bad behaviour.. and there is nothing to suggest they were not, her making this public, and in doing so throwing her child into the media spotlight, is certainly not helping her son......but on the bright side she has got her face in the paper.

I agree the matter has to be faced, suspensions definitely not unless there are other issues with the staff involved - were they actually teachers or admin?
Going to the newspapers though, only in the last resort if nothing is done otherwise.

Oh, so based on a picture you have judged her on looks, as to her reasons

wow

How about this picture

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-44851712

Talk about first impressions, how people wrongly assume the nature of someone based on looks

There is no bright side, when as seen, you have condemned her simple on her looks, when people of trust, let her and her son down. So you see that as a lesser offence and because a media source uses a certain photo, you have condemned her instead. Teachers and school staff are meant to be in a position of trust. What trust was shown her to swear and tell a school child, her son not to return?

Wow

How did the press get that particular photo?

I mean how bad is that where people judge someone on their looks?

Its unbelieveable

I mean the original article was on facebook, where I imagine she has countless photo's

The reality is her looks should not matter to the story

Wow

That pics even worse, plastering her poor child all over the media, if he didn't have behavioural problems before he would have now. Rolling Eyes

Nobody told her child not to return, it was obviously an off the cuff remark the teachers made between themselves.
Not nice, but no doubt humour gets them through some tricky situations when they are working at a school for special needs.

Have you never said something in fun about someone you don't mean literally?

WTF

Seriously, the militans womans hate brigade

So now having pictures of people is wrong to be displayed?

Even though countless people do and love them?

Get a grip, again you are again diverting whatis wrong here, the actions of the two school workers, now over that of the mother fighting what she sees as injustice

Unbelievable

Again, they are in a position of trust

How can she now trust those workers with her son

Who would?

Its wrong, period.

Unbelievable how you attack the mother first on looks and now having pictures of her son with her on facebook

The horror

The pic isn't only on facebook now though is it, its all over the media.

If my child was having difficulties, the last thing I would want is for his name and face to be emblazoned across the news, forcing the poor kid into the media spotlight.

She made it public, she made the Danny La Rue pic public, she is the one ranting and raving.

The matter should have been dealt with privately, if the school didn't deal with it in an appropriate matter she could have taken it further, THAT is what a responsible parent would have done imo, one that wasn't seeking her 5 minutes of fame would anyway.

Who cares about the picture, when its clear the media approached her and wanted to put a face to the story.

Just as they do in most stories

You have judged her on her looks to then fasely then accuse her of seeking attention, when the school has admitted and apologised to her over this incident. Which they are now rightly investigating and the charity that helps pay for the school hs rightly pushed for this. Because the school did not deal with this the first time, when she went to see them. Hence why she rightly kicked up a fuss. Maybe you are good and bowing down and bending over, but others, do not sit down when they have been wrong

Its you ranting the hate and vomit at a woman caring about her son

For fuck sake, get a grip of yourself and hate here

Her son and her was wrong by two school workers, who are meant to be in a position of trust

You are posting hate, badly accusing her and you are doing it again. To now claim we are similar

Lets hope you are never a member of a jury, with that poor arse attitude

Lets get some points straight here

Nothing wrong with having an opinion that is backed with evidence

You have no evidence for your views, they are pisss poor arsed assumptions

You condemned her the moment you saw what she looked like

The typical victorian prude coming out of you again

Oh and for the record

She said the message came on the back of a difficult year for her son who had developed some behavioural problems as he has grown older.

But she said the issues were minor and she had attempted to liaise with the school on how best to deal with Harley, who had previously had no problems over three-and-a-half years at Three Spires.

Leighanne quickly took the matter to the school's headteacher Rob Jones and in a meeting demanded the staff involved face suspension.

She said instead the school proposed a verbal warning for the man and a written warning for the woman.

Leighanne added: "I asked if they could move him temporarily into another class so he is away from the people involved but they poo pooed the idea.

"I'm left in an impossible situation where I don't want to send him in but I could get in trouble if I don't.

"I'm still sending him but I'm not happy and nervous about how he's being treated but I feel I don't have a choice."

Leighanne said she felt compelled to make the recording public after the school sent a text to parents warning of a possible negative news story being reported.

The text went on to say the matter was under investigation and was not a safeguarding concern.

Leighanne said: "I didn't think that was right. This gives parents the opportunity to make their minds up."

She plans now to lodge a complain with the school's governors however a meeting date has not yet been set up.

https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/three-spires-academy-voicemail-14911680

The RNIB, which sponsors Three Spires Academy, said the school had been in contact with Leighanne since last Friday.

In a statement sent to Coventry Live this morning (Tuesday), the charity said: "We have made a full and sincere apology to Leighanne Bromley.

"This type of behaviour is not acceptable and goes against the values of our school and has no place in RNIB.

"We are taking this matter extremely seriously and a full internal investigation is taking place and robust action will be taken where appropriate."

I have served on juries, I was obviously fair and reasonable on each one. snobby

You have as much  idea as I do why she went to the press or responded to them giving them personal pics of her and her son.
My guess is she wanted her 5 minutes, you disagree....you have your opinion I have mine.

The bottom line is her son has been attending this school for 3 years with no problems.
In the last year he has had behavioural problems, she had no complaints about the way the school handled them.
Her only problem is the conversation she overheard, which, as I had said was not nice, and she had every right to complain and expect the staff involved to be disciplined....and they were.
Perhaps it was impossible to place her child in another class with different teachers, a special needs school has staff trained for different age groups and problems.
To suspend the teachers involved would benefit no one.

The way she has acted is certainly not in the best interest of her son......if you think it is, I suggest its your judgment that's poor not mine.

Oh wow and I bet you sent down innocent people, if you judged them on their looks

My guess, is you need to stop judging people based on looks and because they are concerned their child is still going to be in a class with the school workers who made these views

So its not a guess, you have judged her on her looks and think she wants fame, even though, its very clear her son and her have been wronged by people in trust. The press came to her, based off a facebook post going viral. You then place importance over hew looks and not the wrong that happened. That is just fucked up.

No the staff have not been disciplined yet, the view was made to her what would be the punisment and again they did not see a view to remove the child from the class, the two schoolworkers who said this were in.

Anyone with a rational mind, would be very concerned, and that this was not being taken seriously. As a trust has been broken, with those school workers, then propely looking after her son. For you to not even grasp that is a stounding

Hence why now it has been through her actions, as a fulll investigation is under way.

That means, she did the right thing and its very clear that before the school was not doing enough

Of course its posssible to place a child in another class, until the matter is resolved, to say otherwise is complete bollocks, as the head could place himself or others in charge. Even have supply teachers. As rightly the teachers should be suspended pending an investigation. That is working code of practice when there is a disciplinary and clearly the school. Tried to cut courners. This only happened 4 days ago

My guess is you need to see something through, before you constantly judge people, as you constantly pathetically do on some pathetic immoral code of looks. Looking a certain way, does not make the mother bad or uncaring and wanting the best for her child.

Again she has made things happen and any right minded parent facing the same, would do the same.

I mean, your view, was to hold this in private

She did that and got an unnsatisfactory response

You would have bowed down and the school, would have then been able to do this again

Now it cannot, and the matter has to rightly be taken seriously and no child should be placed into a situation the mother rightsly feels uncomfortable about. As that is not safeguarding the best interests of the child. The teachers should have been suspended pending a full investigation from the start. They never were.

Hence why people like you, ensure problems like this arise again and again.

Her actions have now made the school and the charity that runs the school, act.

Showing it is her child that what matters here. And she has every right to want something properly done and not have a her child in the same class as teachers that made such poor views about her son.

reality is, its about that thing called attitude and professionalism

these staffers have a bad attitude and wouldnt know professionalism if it slapped em in the face with a wet kipper.

trouble today is that there are far too few "career" professionals, this goes right throug ALL aspects of society, be it education, police local and national govt etc....you can bet you last penny that a LARGE minority are "pay packet" drones, in it soley because either its all they CAN do, or becasue indeed there is a fair whack to be made from the job, even given some of these jobs down sides....

If I was putting my child into the care of someone who made jokes about wishing she was off for a while -and let’s face it, that’s what they were saying - I’d not want her to be put with them again.

It doesn’t matter that you can understand that teachers can get tired etc. The fact is, they’re feeling enough about her son to SAY it to each other.

I see the points made about teachers being human but come on, if I overheard a derogatory remark like that, about my child, I’d never, ever feel comfortable again leaving my child in their care.

fuck me, anyone that think teachers don't make jokes like that all the time about 'normal' students too is dreaming.

@lord foul
why would anyone with any ability stick to a job with as little pay and as much abuse as a teacher?
Dumbasses like Didge would still tell a professional they're wrong and post mountains of online abuse and call for them to lose their jobs.
They don't get paid half enough to put up with the shit posted in this thread

Firstly that comment wasnt a "joke" .  It was just nasty.
Second too many various examples of nasty and unpleasant people hide behind That Excuse of "Im only jokeing"
Thirdly it IS unprofessional
Fourthly they are clearly too stupid to teach, I mean, how hard is it toa ensure you have actually terminated a call ffs
Finally, if these teachers, whom you thinkare are so put upon were any  good they would be working in industry where money is better one presumes.

If people say they don't judge on first appearance, however fleetingly they are a saint or a liar.
As for jury duty I doubt people make up their mind on guilty or innocent in the first seconds of a trial, how stupid do you think people are and why do you think people get dressed in their best to go to court, they want to make a good first impression perhaps. Its a natural reaction to assess someone on how they present themselves at least in the first instance, you move on from there and reassess as you go along.

They were unprofessional and its a breach of trust and now you seem to exuse this over what they are paid?

Its you getting dumber by the minute in such apologist bullshit for what is clearly too very inconsiderate numpties, who clearly should not be working with children

But I guess you would trust children with irresponible people

I never heard such a crock of shit in my life

There is such a thing as a code of conduct for employees

This majorly falls foul of this

In any work place such an offence, would see an immediate investigation. Followed if found to be true, their suspension, until a disciplinary hearing. That is how UK law works, in the workplace.

Yet again youi defend the indefensible based off the most stupid arguments, salary, thinking this some how makes their stupid abuse okay

Talk about yet again another prime example of ignorance from the Village idiot

Good impressions on dress?

Sorry, most companies have done away with such an archaic system with dress, as what does it matter what you wear?

I get a bit sick of these people (usually women) who run to the papers and plaster everything on social media hoping it'll go viral, using their kids to get their faces splashed across the papers.

There they are, made up to the nines, posing provocatively, looking aggrieved, often about something they caused to happen in the first place.
The poor kids, are just used to bolster their own ego's (and profiles) up.

If a parent has a real grievance, and in this case the mum did have a point, she should have acted in a way that would ultimately benefit her son....not herself.

Update, Just got off the phone to RNIB which is the charity that runs Three Spires Academy and they offered thier sincere apology, said that it should never had happened, they agreed with what action I asked the school to take, and said that was the right and appropriate action and was appalled that the school did not take that course of action in the first place. They totally understood and agreed with the fact that I made it so public and said I would have probably done the same in your shoes. The two members staff involved are now suspended and a full investigation into school is now taking place.

They asked about Harley and issued an apology to him also. They reassured me that they will keep me updated on what the outcome of the investigation is.

See... those people criticising me for making it so public this is what happens when you do, and just bite the bullet hold your head high and know what you're doing, is to simply to make sure your child is safe and protected in a professional environment.

I think any parent would do the same...I don't regret what I did one bit, I'm so happy I can move on knowing that something is being done now.

At last some action, just as it should be under employment law

Lets hope the idiots get sacked, as they clearly are unfit to teach

Its unbelieveale for you seem to care about is having a dig at this woman and again over how you think she should look

You have zero idea about this woman and condemn her for her looks, when she and her son have been wronged.

You make this about her, when this is about the two school workers, being totally unprofessional and breaching trust. Then the school failing to act in the child's best interest and to also ensure the mother

Seriously what is wrong with you, that you judge people and decide what kind of person they are based on their hair and makeup?

You seriously are a really hateful individual at times Syl

Incidentally, she updated her profile pic a couple of hours ago for one with her posing with her son....which made a change from all her other pics where she looks as if she is touting for business.
