Blah blah blah. Every single winter we hear this shit, mostly in the Mail and the Express to sell papers.

It’s cold and it has snowed here in flurries but it’s hardly severe weather conditions! Even the forecasts keep changing here.

True, we should expect cold weather and possibly snow in February.

Having said that, it is bloody absolutely hideously freezing here, I couldn't feel my nose after walking against the wind this afternoon. Crying or Very sad

I have yet to see these snow blizzards and huge snowfall that was predicted.

Weather men seem to be worse than they used to be.

It started snowing here in the night, it's been off and on all morning. We have about 2'' on the ground now, but the wind is getting up so it'll probably drift.
The chill factor is making it feel colder than the temp says...which is 2c at the minute.

Already some schools are closed in this area, Manchester airport has cancelled some flights, and the trains, trams and buses have over an hour and a half delay on some routes. Rolling Eyes

We Brits are notoriously bad nowadays at coping with bad weather.....even in the summer, after a couple of dry weeks, we are moaning about water shortages.

I think people who live in built up areas forget that the actual number of houses around them keeps the temperatures up.

Your garden looks as pretty as a Christmas card Sassy...you should print that out, add a bit of glitter, and send it out to friends and family next Christmas. Cool

Never forget to feed the birds Nicko, or make sure the ice is broken in the bird bath so they have water. Last night we had muntjac deer in the front garden, always amazes me how small they are.

Whiteout! Scream the headlines. Oh do fuck off. It's a smattering of bloody snow and all the schools are closed. People don't die on the roads because of snow, they die on the roads because they drive as though there is no snow on the roads!

I remember the big freeze of 63 and I still had to walk to bloody school in my wellies. I was 6!

Yep, I remember 62, I don't know how you went to school though, as it would have been shut for the Christmas holidays, it started on Boxing Day and went on for about a week, then I went back to college.  I also don't remember any reports of the sea or waterfalls freezing.  You should try it here, been snowing most of the time and we can't get out of the drive.

Seeing that photo of your lovely dog just now has brought a lump to my throat....my late wife's dog and my own faithful and loving companion since she died nearly five years ago succumbed to kidney disease at the weekend, and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to have her put to sleep.

My son-in-law and my grandson, who is a trainee at the veterinary practice, helped me bury her alongside a bench seat in the paddock where we spent so much time together having games or just sitting in the sun watching the world pass us by along the country lane at the end of the drive.

I'm so sorry for your loss. This is our second samoyed, and I didn't think I'd ever love another dog like I loved our first one after 14 years of doggy love. But you do. He's a completely different character and a right card! I think when you lose an animal you always say you couldn't bear to get another but they really do bring so much joy into your life.

I was living in Cornwall at the time.   I remember it well.   The snow was around for weeks.   This was Jan and Feb of 63.   I remember too one day we got the school bus to school but me and this other little kid got locked out because the driver was late.  Instead of knocking on the door, I decided to walk back home, and bearing in mind the snow was about a foot thick and all I had on was a duffle coat and wellies...I must have had an angel with me because I managed to walk the mile or so home all alone surrounded on each side by frozen hedgerow and not one single car passed me.   I finally turned into the close where we lived and luckily for me my mum was washing up at the kitchen window and saw me.  I was crying with the pain, and it got even worse when she tried to warm me up in front of the fire.   Had I had to walk any further, or if i'd got lost, I think they'd have found my stiff little body frozen to the ground! lol!   I just wasn't meant to die that day.

Its heartbreaking when a beloved pet dies, and all the more so because your dog was loved so much by your late wife.

You will enjoy the lovely memories of the good times you had with your dog when the grief fades.

We've had snow on and off for days. It covered everything lightly each time but not for long. I've just tried to do my usual Asda order for Saturday only to find Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday are fully booked. It was mainly for fresh stuff, we have enough frozen etc to last comfortably for a while so we won't exactly starve and I doubt there's many without food stores of some sort around these days, if it does snow as expected people won't get their deliveries anyway, so why the panic? I expect if you go to our local Co op the shelves will be bare of milk and bread tonight.

I am just hoping when we check the mouse traps they are empty. Dont fancy the treck up to the tree den to free them tonight.
So far we have managed to catch 17 alive and free them.

Could a pest return if humanely trapped and released?
Tuesday, March 15, 2016
We are often asked this question and the simple answer is, yes. The issue of humane trapping always ends with the question of disposal.

Animals will always return to somewhere they know they can find food and shelter, unless there is a better alternative. Therefore, when disposing of a mouse or rat, you need to take them at least a couple of miles away, or they will find their way back.

Idea

Looks like the Weather Gods looked down on Britain this week, and said to themselves "Let's show those Poms what some real weather is like..."

Meanwhile, down here this past week has been mostly warm and sunny for the end of summer..       sunny
We do need rain badly, though --  we've been in drought here for the last few months.

For once the met office didn't exaggerate about the weather.

And there is still no let up, some places are cut off altogether, the main roads North are blocked....no way of driving to York today, even the army are out helping motorists who have been stranded on the roads all night.

We have snow drifts about 4 foot high, and the winds are vicious, lots of fallen trees blocking side roads even if they were passable they are not now.

The death toll due to the weather conditions is now at 10.

We had great fun in the snow with our grandson - its the first time he's been able to build a snowman and enjoy being pulled around on his sledge .

We were originally going to build a snowman - but then grandson wanted a snow dog and snow cat Rolling Eyes

The schools were all closed so we just made the most of the time with our gorgeous beautiful grandson .
