the luckiest animal alive ‘baa’ none

Post by veya_victaous on Tue Jan 16, 2018 4:57 am

A sheep, nicknamed ‘Dolly’, became the luckiest animal alive ‘baa’ none when she was plucked from the ocean by a fisherman off the Second Valley coast on Sunday morning.

The fisherman hauled the exhausted woolly mammal into his dinghy and rushed her to shore, where beachgoers helped lift the soggy sheep on to the sand where she caught her breath.

She was then taken to a nearby sheep farm and is said to be recovering well.

Since then, mystery has surrounded how Dolly came to be floundering in the sea, with the number one theory being that she fell off a sheep carrier.

However, new evidence has emerged that suggests the swimming sheep’s adventurous side may be to blame for the unfortunate dip.

Willunga South resident Anthony Dryer, 47, believes a sheepish mistake caused the conundrum.

Mr Dryer was fishing with a mate in a boat off Second Valley Beach in the days before Dolly was discovered in the drink.

He said they saw a lone sheep, seemingly unfazed, on a steep cliff-face and thought it such an odd sight he snapped some photographs of it.

“It was a really hot day (and) she’s just hanging out in the cave and then the next day she was standing on the cliff,” he said.

“We were calling the sheep ‘Wilson’ from (the film) Cast Away.”

When Mr Dryer heard ram-blings that a sheep was found off the coast near the cliffs he was convinced it was the same animal in his photographs.

“A friend of mine forwarded The Advertiser link to me and it was obvious it was the same sheep,” he said.

Mr Dryer believed Dolly either lost her footing or misjudged a step while on the cliff-face and plummeted into the ocean below.

He said he was glad the audacious animal was okay.

“We thought it was going to be stuck up there,” he said.

“I thought it was quite a funny little story with a great ending.”

Ah.....they saved her so they could bung her in the oven and eat her at some other point with mint sauce and some crispy roast potatoes.

I wonder if shark tastes different if you feed it sheep for a few weeks?

Arrow

First off,  Dolly looks like a wool sheep,  so she may have a few years of wool production left before becoming mutton, or dogfood if she's old enough...

Secondly, it's also not unusual for 'celebity' sheep or cattle like her to end up as farm or household "pets", especially if the person receiving it feels that she's earned a long retirement, through her little adventure..     Cool

Yeah, as soon as I heard of 'lamb chops' I took a look at her. She's no lamb. It's mutton, if anything.
