The assassination of Daniel Shaver

I'm a calm man. I'm a reasonable man. I could literally choke the man that did this death, and go eat lunch. He's that much of a low life.

And the jury found him innocent.

I saw this Maddog. I'm shocked that this cop shot him.

The poor man was on his knees with hands up in the air,
pleading with the cop not to shoot him.

Cop shot him anyway. This was murder pure and simple. It beggars belief that the cop walked away with a not guilty verdict.

Shocking. All that shouting and and threats leading up to the shooting were completely unnecessary too. Why did he tell them to crawl towards him? That was a misleading instruction anyway because he meant shuffle rather than crawl.

I hope he doesn't get his job back.

He's white. He's from Texas. BLM won't give a shit, and the "conservatives" are too busy backing the blue no matter what to give a shit. This event doesn't fit nicely into a political box, so it will be mostly ignored over here.

There's a special license to kill for police. They are among the most favored of juries in America. They are even favored over Caucasian females.

Of course, Mesa is Mormon country, too.

He touched his trouser band, probably falling down as he was moving on his knees.

If the cop thought he was going for a gun, one shot in the arm would suffice not five bullets.

The cop murdered this man, and got away with it.

What it shows is that some people who are vetted by the Police find an avenue to get their kicks to murder people

You are right on the BLM point, as more whites are shot by the Police

This shows that some people are being licensed to take advantage of the laws.

But lets take a reality check here.

How many millions of situations are cops involved that do not have them fire a shot even in anger?

The sad reality is, that we concentrate on how idiots like this wanker, was able to be a cop in the first place.

The standard should not be based on isolated incidents, when many cops are honest and never fire a shot in anger.

I have said countless times, that it is the gun culture and crime rates in America and in this instance, some cops on a power trip, that causes people to die through negligence, but here its murder.

There was no threat here and its like the cop, was looking for an excuse

Taking that aside, many cops do good in the US and this should not be a reflection on the rest.

As none here would claim all Muslims are like terrorists, would they?

Okay, lets take a reality check on that assumption

It would take at least a couple of seconds to draw a weapon and fire, if reaching behind him.

Again my point on fear and fear has allowed an innocent ma to have been killed by a gun happy cop

No active threat was being made and it would take a few seconds to draw a weapon and aim and fire, when he had his assualt gun, fixed onto him. The cop was overly threatening, when no threat was even being made to them. The officer was the cause of this shooting by his actions and words

The cop had "you're fucked" etched on the bottom of his rifle. He was looking for someone to kill.

You are right that most cops do the right thing. However, the fact that 1000 Americans are gunned down every year by our police shows we have a problem. UK cops are faced with knives. They corral the person, surround him, and beat him if necessary. Here, they just shoot him.

I do not deny its a problem, but is it a cop problem?

Or is it a gun culture and murder rate problem, that instills fear?

I mean everytime a cop shoots someone, generally Afrucan American, its plastered over the news, before any investigation and based on a view of a racism

Nobody sees what the cops do daily in helping many citizens and based off these isolated incidents, all US cops are castigated for this

It's a training problem. Cops are trained to fear the people they serve. That fear prevents them from being rational. They over react. If you listen to cops they have the most dangerous job on the planet. In reality, they are not even in the top ten in terms of on the job deaths in the US.

Trash collectors have a higher incidence of on the job deaths.

I agree, that is part of the problem, when they are shown videos of cops killed, but lets take a reality check, based on that.

I know this may sound poor, but how many millions of cops, in the US, never fire a shot in anger?

So I agree its part on training, but its part on crime and a gun culture, that cops go into a situation already in a state of perpetual fear of armed confrontation

Do the cops over there always follow that sort of procedure? I mean, yelling at people and saying that if they make a mistake or uncross their feet they'll be shot? Do they always tell people to crawl/shuffle towards them? This guy sounds like a control freak.

He made the man to crawl and beg for his life. It was like he was superior and held the man's life in his hands. The cop's a bully, and enjoys killing. Eventually he will do this again. He hides behind his badge.

Mags and Rags. Of course not all are like that.

We have a mixture of Police which are in Urban areas and then Highway Troopers and then in rural areas Sheriffs Departments.

But it is has been seen historically in the past that a lot of over zealous gun lovers went into LE, as well as racists and control freaks and abusers of all types. I also think that for certain types of people that once they are in, the power goes to a heir heads and they think THEY are the law. Certainly out here in Arizona with its history of gun fights and hanging judges and yes racists, it’s not surprising to see this happen. We also deal with a lot of Uber militia groups who think they can deal with situations outside the law.

I personally have seen this type of situation happen in a retail store on a suspected shoplifter. To say I was dumbfounded is a understatement. I was more scared of the police than the suspected person. They were hyped up, not the drugs but the adrenaline. It was scary.

Hi Cass.

Do you think if they had to have tests every year that these gun ho cops might be winkled out.

Just a thought, not sure if it would help.

Hi!

I’m all for psych evaluations every year and I’m sure it would weed out some, but I do believe a huge shift in the LE culture needs to be changed.

There’s been a huge shift in the American paradigm with regards to attitudes towards those who are supposed to protect us (armed forces/LE), whereas because they are perceived to put their lives on the line every day they can do no wrong and we must support them 110% no matter what. It seems the higher we put people on the proverbial pedestal, the more we ignore their faults.

I think that’s nonsense and we all put our lives on the line every day even by just getting in a car or on a bus. We don’t know what will happen. That in my opinion is what needs to change as well.

They do if they are dealing with a suspected terrorist or something like that. These cops were power tripping assholes. They had ample time to cuff him on the ground.

They would never have seen that rifle, unless it was involved in a shooting. That's what led to him getting fired.

True. BUT somebody close to him could have reported it, or I’m sure he bragged about what it said to colleagues who could’ve reported it, but we will never know now. Sadly it cost someone their life.
