Raed Jarrar's detention by Israel raises alarm

Post by sassy on Sun Nov 12, 2017 5:39 pm

A leading human rights group has raised the alarm over an incident it fears is an indication of the Israeli authorities' growing intolerance of dissent.

Last week, Raed Jarrar, advocacy director for the Middle East and North Africa division of Amnesty International USA, was stopped at the Allenby crossing between Jordan and the West Bank while on a personal visit to his family following his father's death.

Jarrar, who is an American citizen of Palestinian origin, was detained and questioned for hours before being denied entry into the West Bank.

Prior to joining Amnesty International, Jarrar had been allowed into the West Bank on at least four occasions in the past.

According to an Israeli spokeswoman, the office of Public Security and Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan, which is leading efforts to thwart the work of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS), had recommended Jarrar be denied entry.

The Palestinian Authority's interior ministry also confirmed to media that Jarrar was barred from entering Israel due to "his [boycott, divestment and sanctions] activities".

BDS is a Palestinian-led rights campaign which aims to pressure Israel - through economic, cultural and other means - into ending its occupation of Palestinian and Arab lands, and to grant its Palestinian citizens full rights.

An Israeli document posted by Jarrar on Twitter showed he was denied entry due to "illegal immigration considerations" and "public security or public safety or public order considerations".

But Philip Luther, research and advocacy director for the Middle East and North Africa at Amnesty International, said that the refusal was "apparently in retaliation for the organisation's work on human rights violations".

Similarly, Jarrar said that Israeli officials at the border criticised and questioned him over Amnesty's work on settlements.

"They asked me questions about the campaign. They asked me 'Why does Amnesty International have a problem with Israel?' I said I'm here because my father passed away. But they were more interested in the group's work."
Amnesty's fears

In June, Amnesty urged governments to ban Israeli goods made in settlements and to bar companies from operating there, citing their contribution to Palestinian displacement, home demolitions, restrictions on movement, and denial of rights to water, land and other natural resources.

Following its anti-settlements campaign, Amnesty voiced fears that Israel may be planning to go after its funding.

At the time, media reports emerged that the Israeli finance ministry was moving to strip the group of its tax-exempt status.

Israel amended its entry law in March, allowing authorities to ban entry to foreigners who support boycotting the country, including its settlements in the West Bank.

But Amnesty said its "campaign on settlements, which [Jarrar] plays a leading role in, does not call for a consumer boycott of Israeli settlement products".

The group is also not part of the BDS movement and has never voiced support or opposition to boycotts. But this case has raised fears that Israel is also attempting to silence rights groups and activists who work on highlighting the illegality of settlements.

"This appears to be another ominous signal of the Israeli authorities' resolve to silence human rights organisations and activists who are critical of [their] government," Luther said.

Trying to stop the world knowing about abuse in Israel is a little too late.

He is a BDS activist which calls for the destruction of Israel.

Would you allow someone to enter the Uk that wish to destroy it?

Talk about more revisionist history.

So 20% of the population is Arab, how were they ethnically cleansed?

Also most Arabs fled from the war of 1948 started by the Arabs. Some indeed were removed, but lets take a reality check here.

None would have fled or been removed, if not for the Arabs starting a war and not accepting Israel's right to exist

Now that is the irony

I blame those Palestinian Arabs for starting a civil war within the Mandate in 1947 and the leaders of the Arab nations attacking Israel in 1948.

Its because of them, that there is no Palestinian state, because they refused to accept the right of Israel to exist.

Its because they still continue to refuse Israel existing, that there is no peace to this conflict.

5 times in history they have refused a nation state, is evidence to show they have spurned peace and a nation state.

whats funny is that the islamic judgement day cannot arrive until you kill all the jews

Sahih Muslim Hadith

Hadith 6985

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) said: The Last Hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.

as for friends??

Quran (5:51) - "O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people."

Re: Raed Jarrar's detention by Israel raises alarm

Post by SEXY MAMA on Mon Nov 13, 2017 7:28 pm

Do not argue with the People of the Book except in a manner which is best, except such of them as are wrongdoers, and say, ‘We believe in what has been sent down to us and in what has been sent down to you; our God and your God is one [and the same], and to Him do we submit[Tanzil - Quran Navigator]

Most of the verses of the Quran concerning Jews and Christians refer to those who lived in the time of the Holy Prophet (S). That is why, those rules do not apply to all the People of the Book at all time; rather the arguments and reasons presented in those verses should be considered carefully. Hence, based on our conclusion from those verses, we should judge whether or not the People of the Book who are living in our time are entirely disbelievers and that how we should treat them according to the Quran. It should therefore be noted that it cannot be deciphered from the verse in question that most of the People of the Book including those in our time are transgressors or evil-livers. In fact, it can be inferred that most of the People of the Book who lived in the time of the Holy Prophet (S) and confronted him were as such. Now, in order for us to draw out Quran's general attitude towards the People of the Book, we must look at all the Quranic arguments and reasons and pass our judgment based on them.

The Holy Quran's Positive Approach to the People of the Book.
Unlike Torah, the Holy Quran maintains a positive perspective towards the opponents. It does not condemn them simply because they are not Muslims. Of course, there are certain conditions in this approach which we shall mention as under:
The verses which look at the People of the Book positively can be elaborated under four sections:
1. The Holy Quran has made much effort to spread humane morals and attitude among human beings. That is why there are many a number of verses in the Quran relating to moral issues. Hence, the Quran praises most of the people who are adherent to humane morals. The People of the Book are not an exception. In those cases where they act morally, they are praised and encouraged. Of course, there is an exception to this and that is when a person commits mean actions which wipe out the effects of his good actions, in that case he is no longer worthy of praise.
2. Although the Quran considers Islam as a religion that abrogated the religions before it, it gives an opportunity to the People of the Book talking to them with a reconciliatory and compromising tone allowing them to pay jizya, live freely and stay on their religion in the territory of Islam. This is a positive approach on the part of the Quran to the People of the Book.
3. The Quran, sometimes, praises and commends the People of the Book due to their proper actions, monotheistic behaviors and acts of worship. It says:
"Not all of them are alike: Of the People of the Book are a portion that stand (For the right): They rehearse the Signs of Allah all night long, and they prostrate themselves in adoration. * They believe in Allah and the Last Day; they enjoin what is right, and forbid what is wrong; and they hasten (in emulation) in (all) good works: They are in the ranks of the righteous. * Of the good that they do, nothing will be rejected of them; for Allah knoweth well those that do right.
This verse clearly praises some of the People of the Book due to their good and proper conducts. In addition to it, in many other verses, the Quran praises a number of the People of the Book because of their being moderate. "There is a party of them keeping to the moderate course".
As well, in some verses, disbelief (kufr) has been ascribed to some of the People of the Book and it can be deduced from these verses that some others are not disbelievers: "Surely those who disbelievefrom among the followers of the Book and the polytheists shall be in the fire of hell, abiding therein; they are the worst of men.
4. There are also other verses which have praised and lauded the People of the Book in such a way that it sounds as if some of them will attain salvation. For instance, the Quran says:
"Those who believe (in the Qur'an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,- any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
"And most surely of the followers of the Book there are those who believe in Allah and (in) that which has been revealed to you and (in) that which has been revealed to them, being lowly before Allah; they do not take a small price for the communications of Allah; these it is that have their reward with their Lord; surely Allah is quick in reckoning.

Negative Approach to the People of the Book
The Quran uses different literatures in relation to the People of the Book keeping in view the requirements of the time and space. It condemns and reproaches some of the People of the Book owing, largely, to their conducts and behaviors like their stubbornness and enmity towards the Prophet of Allah opposition and enmity to Islam after knowing it, alteration of the heavenly Book etc. As well, most of them have been reproached due to their beliefs such as associating humans with the One God (monotheism) and so forth.
More importantly, there are verses in the Quran which reproach those who oppose the truth and turn hostile to it after it has been revealed to them. The People of the Book are particularly addressed by these verses because they were the ones who, after the truth was unveiled to them, started to oppose and stand up against it. The Quran strongly condemns these people in many verses:
"Surely those who disbelieve and turn away from Allah's way and oppose the Messenger after that guidance has become clear to them cannot harm Allah in any way, and He will make null their deeds.
There are many such verses in the Quran which we do not mention them because they refer to the same point i.e. their enmity to Islam and to the truth after it has been revealed to them.

More denial of the facts,

Its you living in denial, that the Palestinians would have a state today, peace, if they had accepted Israel's right to exist.

They have continually instead chosen violence and war.

And no they are not being ethnicaly cleansed today.

The proportion of Arabs in the city's population has been steadily rising – from 26% in 1967 to 28% in 1980 to 35% in 2007, and to just over 36% in 2011.2. 3
The map above shows the growth of Arab-settled areas (marked in pink) in Jerusalem between 1967, when the city was reunited under Israeli control, and 2007.

Israel Kimhi of Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies is a former city planner whose area of expertise is Jerusalem housing. He notes that Arabs built about 19,000 apartments in the city in the last 15 or so years – an increase of 83%. While much of that construction was done with legal permits, a lot was also done illegally.4
Demolition by Jerusalem authorities of structures that are built illegally take place both in the Jewish and Arab sectors. But demolitions in the Arab sector by Jerusalem authorities are frequently depicted as examples of Israel's attempt to push the Arabs out and take their place. In fact, these demolitions are determined by the number of illegally constructed buildings erected by residents without the appropriate permits. The illegal structures are demolished because they threaten delivery of public services, provision of green spaces, and preservation of archeological, architectural and historical heritage.5 Jerusalem municipal authorities consider these demolitions no less justified than demolitions by governments all over the world of structures that violate zoning laws or housing codes, do not meet planning standards, or stand in the way of urban renewal.
The Jerusalem municipality cracks down on  illegally built structures, regardless of whether they are built by Jews or Arabs.
Municipality demolishes illegal extension of Jewish synagogue on Shmuel Tamir Street in Pisgat Ze'ev.  (Image 63, Page 43 on  Justus R. Weiner, Illegal Construction in Jerusalem: A Variation on an Alarming Global Phenomenon,  Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, 2003)

grin angel

It is quite obvious from Smelly's claims on other threads that he has never read the Bible...

He makes up most of his crap as he goes along, apparently sometimes referring back to one or another of his usual fascist/neo-nazi/alt.right song-sheets for quotes to bolster his bigoted rantings..
