Mother, 31, is left humiliated after restaurant manager shouted at her for changing her son's nappy in front of other diners on the grass outside the premises

Post by HoratioTarr on Tue Aug 22, 2017 7:13 pm

A mother of twins who was shouted at by a restaurant manager when she changed her son's nappy in front of other diners has sparked a furious online debate.
Dion Skull, 31, says she was 'humiliated' when she was told off for putting a new nappy on her one-year-old on the grass outside the Farmhouse Cafe in Guildford, Surrey.
Ms Skull, who is mother to twin boys Luca and Zack, was reprimanded when a fellow diner complained.

She left a one-star review on the cafe's Facebook page, claiming she went to the posh family-owned restaurant 'at least once a week' and its changing facilities were not big enough for both of her boys.
Her post sparked a fierce debate over who was in the right, with even the customer who originally complained wading into the argument.
Ms Skull said: 'I had changed [my sons] before I left home as I know my pushchair doesn't fit in the cafe's baby changing facilities.
'However, when I got there, Zack had gone to the toilet. He has chickenpox, which was why we were sitting outside. I couldn't leave him in a soiled nappy.

'My other son, Luca, has separation anxiety and I only briefly knew the mums I was having lunch with, so I didn't want to leave him on his own.
'I quickly changed Zack's nappy on the grass but the manager said she had customers complain to her and say they were never going to come again because I had changed my boy's nappy outside.'
Ms Skull has vowed never to return to the Farmhouse Cafe.
'It made me feel embarrassed and distressed,' she said. 'The manager started shouting at me in front of everybody, she said it was disgusting and unhygienic. I burst into tears when I left, I was publicly humiliated.
'Being a mother to twin boys is hard - the manager didn't have to tell me that other people had complained. It made me feel really vulnerable.'

However, a person claiming to be the customer who complained fired back stating that several diners were 'disgusted' by Ms Skull's actions. She said: 'I don't want to see your children's s****y nappies when eating my lunch, the table next to me were also disgusted so you obviously weren't hiding what you were doing very well.'

I'm wondering why she'd take her son out if he had chickenpox?

I don't understand people being offended by someone changing a baby's nappy.

Not everyone wants to see a nappy full of shit when they're eating. I wouldn't. If she did this in full view of people eating, I think it's unacceptable. I don't find anything wrong with changing a baby's nappy in public so long as you're mindful of others. This was a restaurant, not a public park or thoroughfare. If it was me, I'd have found a more discreet part of the garden to do it. I'm sure she could have found somewhere where people weren't eating food.

Yes I agree with that. Fair point.

This is isn't a small babe in arms. These kids are one year old. So being downwind of that would probably make you gag.

If her son was poorly and had an infectious disease he should be indoors.
I think it's the height of bad manners to change a stinky nappy in front of people who are eating.
In my opinion she was 100% in the wrong.

She could've taken her child into the toilets or elsewhere in the garden.having a wet nappy is ok, but a poo one is not on. I wouldn't like that whether I was eating or not.

I've changed many a diaper, but so far I've refused to eat during the episode. Evil or Very Mad

Agree

she should not be taking a kid with chicken pox to a restaurant at all anyway

based on that I'm going to assume she is in the wrong for the rest as she is obviously a self centered twat that couldn't just 'not go to the fancy lunch'

Suspect

The mother in the O/P is solely at fault...

The very fact that she subsequently abused the manager for defending his/her restaraunt only goes to show whhat a selfish, entitlement-ridden spoilt scrubber she is at heart..

Taking her chicken pox-infected kid out in public only reinforces the sad fact that she has zero regard for both her own childrens' health --  and public health at large.

She is truly one disgusting woman..
