Car ploughs into crowd at shopping mall in Sydney, Australia, baby among injured

Post by HoratioTarr on Sat Aug 19, 2017 10:23 am

A baby is among the wounded in Westfield Chatswood Mall in the city, with six people being rushed to hospital.

Bystanders fled fearing a Barcelona-style attack could be taking place, as the car mounted the pavement and careered into crowds in Sydney's north shore.

Witnesses said it skimmed past a shop and into crowds including what looked to be grandparents and a baby in a pram at the busy intersection.

One woman, reportedly aged 22, was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition. CareFlight operators said she had head and abdominal injuries.

Witnesses said the car appeared to be travelling slowly.

Police have said the 50-year-old male driver may have suffered a "medical episode". He reportedly stayed at the scene and was assisting police officers.

The crash caused panic on the streets of Sydney but police are currently describing the incident as an "accident", with the driver possibly suffering a medical episode.

Bastards, doing all the cities. I wonder if this was designed by a cell, or nutters just doing it now.

What a Face

Sydney's latest incident isn't considered a terrorist attack...

ISIS isn't al Qaeda --  ISIS doesn't have "cells" scattered around like al Qaeda does..   Rather, ISIS is more like a scumbag criminal gang led/organised by discouraged former al Qaeda nutters, which in turn has thousands of deranged supporters around the world.

Just because ISIS claims responsibility for the Barcelona attack doesn't mean that they actually "planned" it in any way --  but only that they believe that the attackers were their supporters..

And when any attack succeeds, that then encourages those supporters to emulate their supposed "martyrs".

The fact that any car ploughing into a crowd has the 'nervous nellies' wailing "ISIS !!!" only goes to show that the terrorists are getting the results that they wanted...          bom

yeah it looks like either drugs or medical issue caused them to pass out behind the wheel.

i don't know why there is resistance to putting bollards up.

in some places they are already common due to the ram raiding crimes that where occurring, they've been up for 10+ years and you don't even notice them

Some ('many' ?) shopping centres and malls even have built-in barriers such as bollards, raised planter boxes and strategically-located  posts incorporated in their construction, from day one...

Not only helping against ram raids and accidents/'incidents' such as Friday's latest effort,  but also yet another deterrent to terrorist attacks..
