Are these the best tables in Britain? The most stunning restaurant views in the country revealed (from dramatic cityscapes to awe-inspiring Highland mountains)

Post by Guest on Sun Aug 13, 2017 1:55 pm

For a special occasion, nothing takes a celebratory lunch or dinner to the next level like a stunning view from the table. And there’s no need to travel far to find that breathtaking vista either.  Here in the UK we are blessed with a wealth of natural – and not so natural – beauty.  From dramatic or historic cityscapes, to awe-inspiring Highlands and valleys and some of the most beautiful coastal paths in the world, the UK has got everything you need to dine out in style.  Here, writer Joanne Gould reveals some of the best dining spots around…

1. South Sands, Salcombe, South Devon

South Sands restaurant boasts stunning views out over the Salcombe estuary, and the beach has been recognised for a Blue Flag award. The kitchen is headed up by executive chef Allister Bishop who concentrates on using local suppliers and producers, working closely with foragers to include ingredients from the surrounding coastal landscape

2. Angelica, Leeds

Set in the heart of the city of Leeds, six floors on the Trinity Leeds shopping destination is Angelica. With a wrap-around garden terrace, tuck into steak frites and all manner of seafood and take in the panoramic city views including the historic 18th Century Holy Trinity Church

  • 3. Banchory Lodge, Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire’s Banchory Lodge boasts views of the River Dee where it meets its tributary, The Feugh. The award-winning restaurant serves local fresh produce like Scotch beef and seafood straight from the North Sea in the prettiest tranquillity around

4. Beacon, Tunbridge Wells, Kent

Just outside of Royal Tunbridge Wells, The Beacon, enjoys a vista comprising 17 acres of lush grounds and kitchen gardens, three lakes and the woods – all of which can be seen from the open terrace. Try their family style roast of suckling pig, Salt Marsh lamb and more every Sunday

5. Bokan, London

Bokan is an open-air restaurant, bar rooftop terrace in Canary Wharf set over three floors means that 360° show-stopping views of the skyline are guaranteed. Floor-to-ceiling glass allows all-weather dining without compromise accompanied by a modern European menu

6. Coast, Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire, Wales

The dramatic and varied coastline of South West Wales is showcased to great effect from the tables at Coast in Saundersfoot. Dishes comprise regularly changing fish and seafood from the waters in front of you at Coppet Hall’s sandy beach, with produce from the restaurant’s own garden

7. Duck & Waffle, London

There’s no shortage of sky high dining in the capital, but Duck & Waffle is surely the best of them all. Inventive British and European cuisine is served 24/7 from the 40th floor of the City’s Heron Tower offering unparalleled views all over town. The eponymous duck and waffle dish is a must

8. Gaucho Tower Bridge, London

The prime location of Gaucho’s Tower Bridge restaurant allows you to feast on the chain’s signature Argentine steaks and Malbec while drinking in floor to ceiling views of London’s most iconic and ornate bridge. Across the river you’ll be able to spot famous South Bank sights like More London and City Hall

9. Great Western Newquay, Cornwall

Down on the North Cornish coast, the Great Western provides an informal, warm dining experience via their open-plan restaurant. With views across Newquay Bay and the coast, the restaurant and outdoor terrace is an ideal spot to watch the sun set over locally sourced food and Cornish ales

10. Peninsula Restaurant, InterContinental at the O2 Peninsula, London

Some of the best views of London to be had are outside of central and the award winning Peninsula Restaurant at the O2 is an example of this. Work your way through the modern European menu and take in unrivalled views of the Thames, Canary Wharf skyscrapers and historic maritime Greenwich

11. Pizza Express Newquay, Cornwall

Who’d have thought that a branch of high street staple Pizza Express could boast some of the best views in Cornwall? But their clifftop Newquay restaurant definitely does. Order up your favourite pollo ad astra and listen to the waves crash below

12. Port William, Trebarwith, Cornwall

Perched on the side of the valley overlooking the dramatic Trebarwith Strand on the north coast of Cornwall, the dining area boasts front row sea-facing seats inside or out where you can munch on local crab and lobster and watch the enviable sun se
t

13. Real Food Café, Tyndrum, Perthshire, Scotland

An award-winning road side diner in the Loch Lomond National Park, there are picturesque views of the Highlands making it a much-loved stop off for visitors to Scotland. With most of the menu made from scratch including its bakes and sauces (and even dog biscuits!) the views are best enjoyed with the café’s fish and chip tea. Not bad for a former Little Chef

14. Steak on Six, Newport, South Wales

Surrounded by 2,000 acres of panoramic parkland, Steak on Six at the Celtic Manor Resort Hotel provides a fusion of contemporary dining options in an altogether rustic setting. The menu focuses on showcasing the best steaks from around the British Isles to be enjoyed whilst viewing the breathatking Coldra Woods below

15. Tapasya, Hull

It may be the city of culture, but Hull perhaps isn’t the first place you’d think of as picturesque, though you’d be mistaken. Head to Indian fine dining restaurant Tapasya – who sell the most expensive cocktail in the area and serve an Eastern twist on afternoon tea with a dedicated tea butler – and you’ll find dazzling views of the genuinely beautiful Hull marina with an altogether Riviera vibe.

16. Tate Modern, London

London is spoilt for dining with a view, but Level 9 of the refurbed Tate Modern is often forgotten about. Here, the panorama spans much of the Thames, including St Pauls, The Shard and more, and the food is fresh, seasonal and accomplished yet good value and without much of the usual crowds. Take a stroll up to the top floor after lunch for an even better look

17. The Beach at Bude, Cornwall

Situated right on the coast in North Cornwall, The Beach at Bude is a rightly popular restaurant, bar and hotel with sweeping views across spectacular Summerleaze beach and the Atlantic. An all-weather venue thanks to full height glass doors mean views on a winter lunch indoors are still worth the trip and that’s before you take into account the six course local tasting menu

18. Thai Square Putney Bridge, London

Housed in an architecturally award-winning landmark building near Putney Bridge, Thai Square offers views stretching over the River Thames – ideal for the Boat Race. The exterior of the building resembles a ship, with huge metal beams and tall glazed windows offering all the better a view of the scenic riverside location as you dine on contemporary Thai dishes

19. Six at Varsity, Cambridge

For the ultimate lazy tour of historic Cambridge head to SIX at the Varsity Hotel for a glass of champagne on the roof garden before going down for dinner at the renowned restaurant. You’ll be able to spot most of the University Colleges and many a dreaming spire over brasserie classics or a tasty pizza

20. The White Horse at Brancaster Staithe, Norfolk

The White Horse restaurant on the Norfolk coastline has full glass walls to facilitate uninterrupted views over the sea and salt marshes. From the terrace the scenery is even more breathtaking, and you can see the fisherman bringing their freshly caught crab, oysters and more up to the kitchen for your eating pleasure

Wow. You'd never guess some of those were in England. I'd probably spend more time looking at the view and letting my dinner go cold. Rolling Eyes

It just shows you how much beauty there really is in this country Eddie.

I would not worry Eddie about letting your dinner go cold.

You would not be the first in history that got side tracked by the view

lol!

Bingo. I don't mind paying for great food, but I dislike paying for a view and/or ambiance.

But yeah I do want to look at the menus and drool.

And in that note, I'm off to make a bacon baguette

Some fabulous views there. I love eating out when there is something nice to look at.
We go to a harbour café/restaurant for lunches  in Barmouth Wales....sit out looking over the little harbour in the sunshine...its not fancy but its a gorgeous view...and the foods nice too.
