A good way of keeping inflation artificially low.

Make chocolate and thousands of other items smaller for the same price.
Rip off Britain rules in Tory times.

A couple of christmases ago I remember people saying this about tins of chocolate, like Quality Street.

Its a neat way of suppressing the inflation figures and retail prices index, which of course are linked to pay and pension rises.

You think the chocolate companies are in league with the Government?

probably not it is just a side effect of the 'basket of goods' measure for inflation. I'd say it is more that treasury should have been aware and adjusted their measurements which they have chosen not to do, thus hiding inflation

we have the same problem down here, the basket of goods includes a 'chocolate bar' which was originally 50-60grams and has shrunk to 35-45grams, a better measure would be '100grams of chocolate' or some defined unchanging amount

Its a way of maximising profit without increasing turnover and having to pay more tax and VAT.
