Trump attacks London Mayor for calmness message

US Fake President Trump has again lashed out at London Mayor Sadiq Khan over his assurances to Londoners following a terror attack.

Mr Khan had said people should not be alarmed by an increased police presence on the streets.

But Mr Trump on Sunday accused him of playing down the threat and on Monday said the mayor's clarification of his statement was a "pathetic excuse".

Seven people were killed and 48 injured in the attacks on Saturday night.

After the tragedy, the mayor said: "Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days. No reason to be alarmed."

The US president criticised Mr Khan for this but failed to provide the context, writing: "At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is 'no reason to be alarmed!'"

In response to Mr Trump's attack, a spokesman for the mayor said on Saturday that Mr Khan "has more important things to do than respond to Donald Trump's ill-informed tweet that deliberately takes out of context" the mayor's remarks.

Mr Trump's attacks on Mr Khan have drawn condemnation from both sides of the Atlantic.

His critics have accused him of being insensitive and twisting the mayor's words.
Politicians in the UK on Monday called on the prime minister to withdraw the invitation for Mr Trump's state visit later this year.

The leader of the Liberal Democrats, Tim Farron, said: "This is a man insulting our national values at a time of introspection and mourning."

Over the weekend, Prime Minister Theresa May refused to criticise Mr Trump, simply saying that Mr Khan was doing a "good job".

British voters go to the polls on Thursday in a general election.

"Try to imagine the UK prime minister attacking the Mayor of NYC the day after 9/11," said European Parliament cabinet member Simon O'Connor.

The US Conference of Mayors, representing more than 1,400 American cities, backed Mr Khan.

"He has risen above this crisis of death and destruction, as mayors continue to do, to alleviate fear, to bring comfort to his people of London", the mayors wrote in a statement on Sunday.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio also took to Twitter to defend Mr Khan saying he "is doing an extraordinary job supporting Londoners in a time of pain".

"President Trump's attack on him is unacceptable."

Mr Khan, a Muslim, has previously criticised the president's travel ban, which is stalled in the courts but seeks to stop people from six mainly-Muslim countries.

After Mr Trump as a presidential candidate announced his plan, Mr Khan told the BBC he hoped he would "lose badly", adding that he was a "buffoon".

He also called Mr Trump's views on Islam "ignorant", leading the New York billionaire to challenge him to an IQ test.

Britain, this is what divisiveness looks like.  Here's a US president, panicky, and calling out your leaders for urging calmness.  What?  You should be rioting and running through the streets, shouting The sky if falling, the sky is falling!

Think seriously before you go to the polls. This is what Conservatism looks like. This is what isolation does to you. Inane comments, disjointed thinking...that leaves you wondering what planet did these guys come from?!

Well trump continues to spout nonsense all the time making himself look an idiot, but he was not the only one who did so on this.

The NYT is being descriptive in that article: "reeling" is a proper description of the mood after Manchester, and now London.  It's an adverb, not a call to action.

That's a huge difference from Trump's 'anti-calm' message.  Trump is criticizing an act--that of Mayor Khan, calling for calm--and not a choice of words.  Apparently the Russo-Republican president would be happier seeing Britons in panic and falling apart.

His 'covfefe' tweet made about as much sense as pretty much everything he's ever said.

If people want to talk about calmness ... well done to the police officers who, as first responders, tackled the 3 deranged terrorists who went on a murderous rampage. Their bravery in how they protected the public was my abiding memory as I watched the whole thing unfold on TV.

Trump took the Mayor Khans words completely out of context.
He is a fool.

Amen. +1 First-responders in the UK are the best.

He is a fool.
He is also a far right racist Nobly supported this side of the pond by Farage and Boris. And his tweets brought only a frown and some dissappointment from May.

Idea

With Donnie the Dumpster himself being a spineless and brainless maggot, who ran the other way to avoid doing any military service (despite his father having sent him to a 'military' boarding school !!!),   he would likely be leading the screaming panickers running away, if he ever gets caught up in any kind of disaster, violence or terrorism...

I wonder if he ever thinks before he tweets..     scratch
