Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell dies in possible suicide

Post by Ben Reilly on Thu May 18, 2017 10:22 pm

Another of grunge’s most beloved icons has departed this Earth. Chris Cornell was found dead in a Detroit hotel room Wednesday night, just hours after performing with Soundgarden, a band that played an integral part in popularizing the Seattle alternative rock sound of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Detroit police said they were investigating the death as a possible suicide.

It did not take fans of the genre long to realize that Cornell’s death, at the age of 52, left arguably just one man standing among the iconic front men of grunge. To the relief of many on Twitter, Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder is still going strong.

He had a great voice.
Possibly my favourite:

Chris Cornell's 12-year-old daughter, Toni, went on Good Morning America to perform a moving cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" with OneRepublic in honor of her late father and her godfather Chester Bennington.

I always find that song a bit dirge-like and rather repetitive, but it's the thought which counts.

His Linkin Park friend Bennington went the same way too, sadly .... on the anniversary of Cornell's birthday - July 20. Neither left a suicide note, in fact there are many similarities in both stories.

''Chester Bennington may have mimicked the suicide of his close friend, Chris Cornell. The Linkin Park singer was found hanging from a door separating his bedroom from his closet.  Chester was found with a belt around his neck. There was a partially empty bottle of alcohol in the room where Chester died, but no evidence of drugs.''

Just so damn sad. They both had amazing voices. Chester sang at Cornell's funeral. Lp's The End is my favorite of Chester's and Fell on Black Days/Blackhole Sun for Chris, although I loved his Temple of The Dog music too. Crying or Very sad
