Abbott Making Aussies look Dumb AGAIN!!

Post by veya_victaous on Tue Jan 28, 2014 3:08 am

I'm Pissed at Abbott Being a Dickhead again, World stage is not the place for 2 bit domestic politics. Tony Doesn't seem to understand leading A Country is Different than Being that Bully Dickhead School Capitan.

And Bolded the Bits that could be of interest regarding Austerity measures and if they work or not.

PM Tony Abbott stood up in front of some of the planet's most well-respected and knowledgable economic experts in Davos the other day and a) gave a lecture about the benefits of supply-side economics that even the most ardent right-winger would have considered comprehensively debunked by the last 30 years of history, and b) used it as an opportunity to slam Labour - the Rudd government, specifically - for saving our nation from the ravages of the Global Financial Crisis.

The first bit was predictable: Abbott likes to make claims about how governments are terrible at economics and that the best way to encourage prosperity is to allow the private sector to function with little oversight as though these are givens, as opposed to fantasies.

That's not just lefty posturing: if give-money-to-rich-makes-everything-better actually worked, the US would be the most just and prosperous nation in the world rather than the single largest debtor nation (which began under Ronald Reagan, who renamed the discarded notion of "trickle-down" economics as "supply side, exactly as creationists rebranded their own adorably idiotic theory as "Intelligent Design"). Also, Chinese manufacturing would have collapsed under its own inefficiency and Scandinavia would would have turned into criminal-run plutocracies as per the former USSR. Furthermore, the GFC wouldn't have happened since the financial markets would have been operating under sleek capitalist efficiency rather than massive profit with all risk transferred to the government.

But if only we had an example that demonstrated this. Like, say, us.

You might recall that the Rudd government did the opposite of what almost every other government did when the GFC hit, giving us a nice little experiment in which economic policy plunges a country into recession, and which does not.

The UK and the US responded by making massive cuts in public spending, which led to recession, a spike in unemployment that has yet to significantly fall, Wall Street being occupied by protestors, and honest-to-god riots in London. Right-wing groups run by loud, braying morons suddenly had influence (the Tea Party in the US, the National Front in the UK - and, for matter, Golden Dawn in Greece and Italy), with a commensurate upswing in violence against immigrants and (especially) Muslims.

In Australia, we had a stimulus package. And things continued pretty much as normal.

You'd think that pretty much closes the book on good economic management: similar countries try different solutions to the same problem, one prospers while the others catch on fire - especially since global economic leaders reckon it was a bold and brilliant move by then-treasurer Wayne Swan.

Your PM, on the other hand, thinks otherwise.

"In the decade prior to the crisis, consistent surpluses and a preference for business helped my country, Australia, to become one of the world's best-performing economies," he declared. "Then a subsequent government decided that the crisis had changed the rules and that we should spend our way to prosperity." Which, it should be pointed out, worked.

Swan isn't angry, mind, just disappointed. "For Tony Abbott to try to rewrite the history of the global financial crisis… shows that he has no understanding at all of the forces at work in the global economy," he told reporters in response. "It's sad that he would seek to use an international forum and chairmanship of the G20 to engage in a bit of grubby domestic politics, which the whole audience will know is wrong."

Well, at least everyone thinks we're idiots now. Cheers, Tone.

Cool   PROBABLY as good a time as any to remind everyone that ONLY just under 38% of Australians voted for the Abbott-Hockey-Bishop led Liberal Party in last year's election...

CLOSE to their actual long-term average [in the "low-30s"..] in this country..

THE other 16% that gave the Oz 'Tory' Coalition government last September came from their "Nationals" partners-in-crime (8%) and a mixed bag of various fringe-looney parties and the Clive Palmer sunday roast and knitting circle club ~ which pretty much covers the "gullible fool" portion of any country's electorate.  AND WHICH also provides a large part of the ballyhooed "swinging voters"..

THAT means that the "protest vote" against the previous government effectively gave the Conservatives a government that they haven't earned..

AROUND half of the Liberal/NP membership don't want Abbott&Hockey as their party leaders either ! Which also means that Abbott's job as PM is "always on the line" ~ with Malcolm Turnbull waiting in the wings, if Abbott stuffs up one time too many !    Basketball

WHY are you referring to me as "Donk", Mr Cacklehead ?!?

The word "donk" is Aussie slang for an engine or motor ~ and simply doesn't have the added connotations that Drinky alludes to in his ongoing delusions of Tory superiority..

AS Veya can well testify to on my behalf..
AND now YOU, Cacklebrain, have exposed yourself to be just as big a brainless fool as Drinky !  jocolor

WHY do you two idiots insist on calling me "Motor", as your new pet nickname for me, Kackless One ?

:D

Apparently, Drinky noticed Paul Hogan (!) use the term as a put-down of his off-sider in the "Crocodile Dundee" movie ~ and has associated the word with "fool or idiot".

Obviously, Drinky didn't realise that part of Hoge's humour included that deliberate misuse of some words in his ad-libbing style ~ and he's got the completely wrong end of the stick, and put his own meanings onto the word !

You mean Crocodile Dundee wasn't a factual documentary about life in Australia? Now I don't know what to believe!!
