DHS Intel Analysis Refutes Trump’s Case for Travel Ban

A new federal intelligence report suggests U.S.-based violent extremists who are foreign-born become radicalized once they have lived in America for a number years and generally do not come to the country already radicalized, according to a Department of Homeland Security document. The assessment, dated March 1, involved research of 88 violent extremists in the U.S. More than 50 percent were living in America for 10 years or more before they were indicted or killed. The document provides another piece of context for President Trump’s executive order to ban travel from seven predominantly Muslim countries, which he said was aimed at terrorism prevention. The Associated Press last week published an analysis from the agency that claimed citizenship in a given country is not a reliable indicator for whether that person poses a security threat.
