One for classical music buffs...which song - indeed which masterpiece - has the last line:

Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domine. Osanna in excelsis.

I'm just listening to it because I need inspiration!

Sorry Fred, I'm more a Bee Gees and Beatles girl.
Th only song I know with the word Hosanna in is that old rousing school hymn Jerusalem.

That really is quite lovely, and I had never heard it before. My thanks Quill.

Benedictus qui veniti nomine Domini (Blessed is he who cometh in the name of the Lord) as sung here is actually the penultimate line of Mozart's monumental Great Mass in C Minor, which actually closes with Osanna in excelcis. (Hosana in the highest) and as most of the classiclal Masses end in slightly different ways I'd venture a guess that Simon and Garfunkel used this one as their inspiration.

Full marks.

Ty Fred, but a green to Mozart as well.  Carry it for him, if you will.  Such a beautiful weaving of harmonies, from minor, to major, to relative major. and around.  It was made for voices, although that beautiful instrument, the cello, said to be the voice on strings, also does it greatness.

My own favourite is the Verdi Requiem...I want Dies Irae played at my funeral... but you are right...Wolfgang Amadeus penned an absolute masterpiece in his Mass in C Minor.

If you like the musical interpretation of the Mass and would like to try one written by a modern composer, may I recommend John Rutter's Requiem?

Currently, I'm boasting to anyone who'll listen that I have been lucky enough to get hold of a brace of tickets for his Christmas concert at London's Royal Albert Hall in December - with the great man himself wielding the conductor's baton over no less than the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Sheer bliss.

Ps. Belatedly played your clip.Yes, again beautiful and a new experience for me. It's actually from the Mass written by another modern British composer, Karl Jenkins. I have a disc in my collection.

Hope I'm not boring everyone, but I studied music and the violin in my (much) younger days, and the passion has never gone away.

No apologies, please. There is nothing I love more than a full symphony, strings particularly. My favorite are the viola and the cello, but alas, I learned music theory on the guitar and 5-string banjo. Laughing

I know absolutely nothing technical about music, I can't play anything, can't carry a tune in a bucket but music has to be one of the most beautiful of humans' creation. I like just about anything but I believe its said that classical music has a timing(?) and structure that can alter brainwaves?. Much of it is so beautiful you can't help but get emotional.
