Yes what might work for one might not work for another...we know this.

I am of the belief that we can all cure our own bodies with what nature offers us and psoriasis, as an example, isn't treated with creams which is why people need to keep getting steroids. Creams don't cure skin conditions that penetrate deep, as creams only cover the first layer.
Steroid creams are bad news and are always given with a warning not to use them too long.
Why? Because they're damaging to your skin. So if they don't cure you - why use them?

Is the suggestion here that all people with psoriasis have a diet in common, and that people who don't have it all have a different diet?

I know its absurd and shows Eddie does not understand what psoriasis is.

As you rightly have stated, its to do with where the immune system attacks healthy skin

Diet has bugger all to do with the condition

There are alternatives to steroids, and anyway they don't address the root cause, which is basically a malfunctioning immune system. I agree that creams don't do that either, but I guess they alleviate symptoms for some people. I've already said that all steroids should be approached with a lot of caution.

I'm not sure there is a "cure" for psoriasis. It can be controlled, which is as good as a cure I guess.

So you would agree that diet doesn't cause it, and that diet won't necessarily cure it then?

You can help your body with whatever you put in it. Food and water are food for your body's engine.

If your immune system is buggared you can surely help it with what you eat and drink. Everyine knows that - it's why you're told to avoid caffeine, as a simple example, for lots of conditions. Even doctors advise people to change their diets. This is basic common knowledge.

I have found that people who pooh-pooh the importance of foods and seeds and herbs etc, usually aren't people who have a healthy diet themselves.

Again failing to understand physiology.
In psoriasis, it attacks only certain parts of the body and skin, mainly on average around 2% of the body. Other areas are not infected and its generally believed to be a genetic defect.
Food has sod all to do with this and you are talking utter gibberish

What you put in your body is going to impact on your illness, or your general health.
That's what I'm saying so let's be clear.

If yer diagnosed with something there is tons of advice on what's the best food stuff to eat to help you, help yourself. A lot of what we eat (consciously and also unknowingly) is crap for our bodies. If diet made no difference why would doctors tell you themselves, to avoid certian things? Sugar is bad for cancer and all patients are told to avoid if possible or cut down if they can.
People can only advise the rest is up to the individual.

Even on your own link, it states

There is no definitive answer to this question. Scientists say there's little evidence at the moment to support the notion that diet can have a major impact on the disease.

University of Pennsylvania psoriasis researcher Dr. Joel Gelfand supports patients following a healthful diet, but says people should keep their doctors informed about the changes they are making—and be careful not to do anything that might actually cause harm. "The downside [of changing the way you eat] is the time, cost and energy to follow a diet you may not enjoy, and that won't have proven benefits for your health."

From the crock of shit link on asthma, that at least admitted the following

There’s no conclusive evidence that a specific diet has an effect on the frequency or severity of asthma attacks

You are what you eat.

Perhaps with some people. Not all.
It's common sense to me, to look at your diet first and see what changes you can make to help yourself then use that a,ongside your meds if that is what you decide as an individual.
I'd always try natural ways before pills and potions, and if that wasn't working after tweaking etc, then I'd try my own dosage of pills alongside my diet. It's trial and error if you have the time and patience and it's not going to risk death obviously!

Certain foods you eat, like pineapples are to be avoided in late pregnancy as they can bring on early labour. Stands to reason foods act like "medicines" or are best avoided in certain situations. We are what we eat.

And diets make people starve themselves, which is also unhealthy.
Keeping fit is the key and eating regular amounts in small portions daily.
So again you are talking a crock of shit

It's possible, and I'm not dismissing the idea that diet is important. I just don't think that it would cure everyone, and that there are other underlying causes of it.

Genetics

Psoriasis runs in families. One in three people with psoriasis has a close relative with the condition.
However, the exact role that genetics plays in causing psoriasis is unclear. Research studies have shown many different genes are linked to the development of psoriasis. It's likely that different combinations of genes may make people more vulnerable to the condition. However, having these genes doesn't necessarily mean you'll develop it.

Psoriasis triggers

Many people's psoriasis symptoms start or become worse because of a certain event, known as a trigger. Knowing your triggers may help you to avoid a flare-up. Common triggers include:

  • an injury to your skin, such as a cut, scrape, insect bite or sunburn (this is known as the Koebner response)

  • drinking excessive amounts of alcohol

  • smoking

  • stress

  • hormonal changes, particularly in women (for example, during puberty and the menopause)

  • certain medicines such as lithium, some antimalarial medicines, anti-inflammatory medicines including ibuprofen, ACE inhibitors (used to treat high blood pressure) and beta blockers (used to treat congestive heart failure)

  • throat infections – in some people, usually children and young adults, a form of psoriasis called guttate psoriasis develops after a streptococcal throat infection (although most people who have streptococcal throat infections don't develop psoriasis)

  • other immune disorders, such as HIV, which cause psoriasis to flare up or to appear for the first time

My Graves' disease is an autoimmune disease and everything you read tells you to avoid prawns and foods rich in iodine as my thyroid goes into spasm and makes too much of it. So again, reducing or cutting foods from your diet helps.

Same here I can't eat celery raw or cooked not also avocado fruit too they contain natural latex which I'm intolerant too . It's very likely that apple is causing me problems too now Sad

It's advised to cut alcohol from your diet if you have psoriasis - as an example. So cutting certain foods and drink from diets can help with certain diseases, as we keep seeing.

So you know that it affects you because the effects are pretty immediate and specific. If a food provokes an autoimmune response, how does someone know which food it is? They could try cutting out everything one by one, but it would take ages, and in the meantime they need something to control the condition.

My Graves' disease is an autoimmune disease and everything you read tells you to avoid prawns and foods rich in iodine as my thyroid goes into spasm and makes too much of it. So again, reducing or cutting foods from your diet helps.

It's advised to cut alcohol from your diet if you have psoriasis - as an example.  So cutting certain foods and drink from diets can help with certain diseases, as we keep seeing.

That is not what it states in regards to alcohol, its about excessive amounts that may "trigger" psoriasis.
Again showing you have now idea what you are talking about

So you know that it affects you because the effects are pretty immediate and specific. If a food provokes an autoimmune response, how does someone know which food it is? They could try cutting out everything one by one, but it would take ages, and in the meantime they need something to control the condition.

It took 46 years to become intolerant to banana - my immune system dealt with it until it gave up then the chronic pain started . I went to the doctors and he told me that banana intolerance can take years to have adverse affect and that if i stop eating banana and it is indeed the cause then the problem is solved . I stopped banana for a month and had no pain then i had half of a banana and the chronic stomach ache and other symptoms . It's the only way to identify food intolerance .

The immune system itself isn't under attack, it's malfunctioning and identifying normal bodily tissue as foreign. Actually, some people think that psoriasis isn't an autoimmune condition, but I'd have to do more research into that. Inflammation in general is a hot topic at the moment.

Stress is one issue which is being looked at. Apparently, many people with autoimmune conditions report a stressful event not long before their condition started, but it's all a bit vague really.

Right, so someone can't really spend all those years trying to work out if food caused their autoimmune disease.

Anyway, I'm glad you found the culprit eventually!

Food diaries are handy. I love listening or reading about others' experiences - there's so much info out there by normal, everyday folk, who've tried and tested their own methods. Every little helps when you're feeling crap and we all know food plays a major role in our health and well-being.

I would suggest you might want to listen to people who are medically qualified, more than anything, as your life may one day depend on this.

Yes its one way of identifying food allergies and intolerance.

So it's not necessarily down to an unhealthy diet then. After all, who would think of bananas as unhealthy? Of course someone can try eliminating the usual suspects - sugar, caffeine, alcohol, etc - but it could be something that nobody would ever suspect, and it could take years!

If it's something lacking - a vitamin or a mineral - the same thing applies. Perhaps there should be a more efficient way to test those things. Doctors don't really order that kind of test as a matter of course.

Like I said, because my thyroid makes too much iodine it stands to reason that it would benefit me greatly, whilst having a thyoid "attack", that i reduce foods rich in iodine.
There's a certain part of the world, I'll have to look, where they eat a really rich iodine-based diet and they have a real problem with hyperactive thyroids and goiters.

I agree some people can eat crap and not get sick - but i bet it catches up in the end .

Eating fat is now good for us whereas it was a big NO - but now eating butter lard is now better for us and doesn't clog our arteries , there is a low carb high fat diet for diabetics that is reversing type 2 .

Lets face it, even scientists can't make up their minds half the time on what's good and bad for you! The information is out there and it's really a matter of common sense with food.
What that rule of thumb? "Brown" food is bad...i.e. Chips, breadcrumb coatings, batter, pastry, cakes, biscuits....

This is interesting regarding the list of "brown" junk foods I just listed:

http://www.nhs.uk/news/2016/02February/Pages/Scientists-look-at-what-puts-the-junk-into-junk-foods.aspx

Eating a low-PAMP diet

Want to try a low-PAMP diet? According to the study in question, types of foods thought to be low in PAMPs include:
fresh fruit
fresh vegetables
fish
un-minced meats

Common sense.
