Entire senior management staff of U.S. State Department has resigned

Post by >THE Ben Reilly< on Thu Jan 26, 2017 5:32 pm

Six senior officials in charge of management at the State Department have departed their posts under the new administration of President Donald Trump, The Washington Post reports, citing four unnamed State officials. On Wednesday afternoon, nine-year State veteran Patrick Kennedy, the undersecretary for management, resigned suddenly, joined by Assistant Secretary of State for Administration Joyce Anne Barr, Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Michele Bond, and Office of Foreign Missions Director Gentry O. Smith.

Additionally, Assistant Secretary of State for Diplomatic Security Gregory Starr and Bureau of Overseas Building Operations Director Lydia Muniz retired from their posts on Jan. 20, the day of Trump's inauguration. All five officials worked under Kennedy to manage department logistics as well as State posts overseas; the Post further notes that "several senior foreign service officers" in regional State outposts have either left or resigned their positions since the election.

"It's the single biggest simultaneous departure of institutional memory that anyone can remember," David Wade, the State Department's former chief of staff under John Kerry, told the Post. "That's incredibly difficult to replicate." Kennedy had reportedly planned to try to stay on in his job under incoming Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and his resignation Wednesday was apparently unexpected.

Reporters have noted that many of the senior officials had served under both Republican and Democratic presidents. "In the context of a president [Trump] who railed against the U.S. foreign policy establishment during his campaign and a secretary of state [Tillerson] with no government experience, the vacancies are ... concerning," the Post wrote.

Love to be a fly on the wall.

I agree with wolfie, it's been anticipated...and will repeat itself in defense (rubbish generals & loser soldiers), CIA (Nazis and incompetents), and domestic agencies and departments (sludge, swamp, etc.).

But I'd like to be able to fill in the details of each episode.  Someone or something undoubtedly prompted things.  For history's sake, I'd like to know.

Could be. It's a possibility. Although at that level, it's like taking the rudder off the ship. Normally it would be handled differently. There's be a replacement before the departure.

The problem with that theory is that you need people with a certain skill set.

He's already scraping the bottom of the barrel. If bodies are all that he needs, why not match those unemployed factory workers in Michigan and Pennsylvania with some cabinet positions. At least that would make an honest man of him...somewhat.

Washington (CNN)The chief of US Border Patrol has departed the agency, Customs and Border Protection said in a statement Thursday -- the day after President Donald Trump signed executive orders aimed at beefing up border security.

It was not clear whether he had resigned or was asked to leave.

Border Patrol Chief Mark Morgan's departure is not uncommon in a presidential transition. The head of the Transportation Security Administration, Peter Neffenger, also left in the transfer of power. He had been willing to stay on, but the Trump administration had not asked him to until he had already made other plans.

Morgan's resignation comes on the heels of Trump's move to begin fulfilling his campaign promises on border security and immigration with a pair of executive orders Wednesday that ordered the construction of his pledged wall along the border with Mexico and asked for an increase of 5,000 Border Patrol agents, among other actions.

if you look at his business failings this is often one the elements, and is quite obvious by his actions
he cannot take criticism at all, or opposition or competition or accountability.
he has lost billions through these failings. And now he is going to get to make decision for the 2nd largest economy in the world.

the USA is lucky the EU is splintering, no one else is close enough to reduce them to 3rd.... unless the USA splinters too Suspect Suspect Suspect

The rank and file of the Border Patrol were behind Trump from the first. Morgan was very unpopular with the rank and file. So his ouster was a foregone conclusion.
