Alt-Right Frames Wrong Esteban Santiago for Shooting, Kickstarts Racist Conspiracy Theory

Post by Thorin on Sun Jan 08, 2017 2:58 pm

Far rightwing figureheads immediately invented an elaborate and racist conspiracy theory that CNN had lightened a photo of alleged Fort Lauderdale airport shooter Esteban Santiago shortly after the Friday attack. In reality, CNN had yet to air a picture of Santiago, let alone lightened a picture of him. The conspiracy also used a picture of an entirely different man named Esteban Santiago—not the alleged shooter. Still, writers at websites like InfoWars and Gateway Pundit tweeted about CNN’s nonexistent Photoshop job. Former Republican Florida Congressman Allen West, who represented Fort Lauderdale itself, even tweeted about the conspiracy and linked to an article about it on his own website.

What has that got to do with yet again the Alt-right spreading lies and hate?

We haven't seen any main news streams telling people how he was a Muslim...

Hiding the truth... is akin to lying...

Then start a thread on that.

This is about the alt right spreading lies and hate, which you refuse to condemn or even talk about

Isn't it rather the authorities and main stream media are covering up the fact he was a Muslim...?

Rolling Eyes

NOTE that poor little deluded Tommy's only reference is yet another alt.right/neo-nazi blogsite  !!!

This has always been a serious problem with hatemongering/militant/vigilante style "alternative news" groups and their websites --  they simply don't give a damn about spreading lies, framing the wrong people, harassing innocents --  as long as they can keep on stirring up trouble..      sleaze

Razz

"Double standards" ?
That's being rather generous --  Tommy "I'm a genius !" Monk has no 'standards'  !

Note, also :

Tommy offers no actual proof that the suspect is Muslim;
Nor any rationale how that would genuinely guide/affect his actions ???         Arrow

I have no idea whether the suspect is a Muslim or not. Time will tell on that one and why I do not jump to conclusions as Tommy does.

The point is here he is trying poorly to deflect from the point at hand, which is not going to happen.
He clearly is okay when its the Alt Right spreading false news, but claims the media is doing the same thing.

Hence the double standard

I don't know about what is claimed in op...

I'm just adding a bit of information I read elsewhere that might be of interest.

And on the zero hedge link I gave... then show a picture of him...

And then it is claimed that this image was shown on CNN by a link to a twitter feed...

The Islamist scarf and 1 finger sign are clear in pic 1..  but in black and white pic 2 it is difficult to make out the scarf...

So again Tommy deflects.

And now adds a picture, which if anyone else had posted a picturem he would scream photoshop

The irony

Again we will soon find out whether he is a Muslim or not and what his motivations were

All of are which irrelevant to this thread

Last chance to engage in the debate.

No they are not

One is black and white, the other colour

None of which are verified

As stated CNN did not even post up a picture before the claim was made

You have had plenty of chances to condemn, but again believe your Far Right idols

You are done in this debate

The colour pic is the original one found on one of this mans social media accounts...

The black and white one was changed to black and white from colour, and used by CNN...

Update 6:31 p.m.: Gateway Pundit's Jim Hoft emailed The Daily Beast about an hour after this story's initial publication.
"I pulled the post," he said.
"UPDATE — THIS MAY BE A DIFFERENT ESTEBAN SANTIAGO," the story now reads.
The Daily Beast reached out to both Watson for comment. His tweet is still visible on his account.

The black and white picture has the CNN logo in the bottom right corner if you view whole pic...

Who cares, when it has no relevance to the article

Do you realise that?

You can also see the scarf clearly in black and white

You have deliberately derailed this thread.

The point still stands, no matter how poorly you deflect

The alt right lied and promoted hate

You still fail to condemn your idols

I read the op...

It seems to be centred round a claim that CNN used an altered (black&white) picture of the terrorist in a news broadcast... and some overblown denials of this happening before it actually did happen...

I have shown original colour picture where Islamist scarf is clearly seen...

And another, of a B&W version of original pic, and what looks very much like it is on a CNN news broadcast...

So why is op denying that CNN used an altered b&w version of picture on a news broadcast...?

Really?

The Alt right lied about this, before any picture had been put up and then claimed it was doctored

They lied and you are saying its a claim

Its usually associated with Palestinian solidarity. So people claiming this makes him an islamist or Muslim is flawed. As many non-Muslims wear this in support of Israel

NO DOUBT many of those alt.right goons would also confuse the Shemagh (The Aussie military version, in khaki, and available in army disposal and camping shops, is usually made in Pakistan..) with "Islamic scarves" if it suited their truth_twisting story-telling agendas ???

Despite the facts that thousands of allied troops and special forces use them, when serving in hot, dry climes;  and that they are also becoming popular with Western civilian travellers, bushwalkers, hunters, 'survivalists, 'etc..

In the same manner that many alt.right/neo-nazi/anti-immigration pundits frequently confuse their niqabs with hijabs and burqas.  Why are alt.right and neo-nazi supporters such a bunch of thicko's at heart..      geek

All your supposed facts come from extremely flaky sites like Zero Hedge... If they reported the sky is blue, I'd double check.

There are lots of killings in Florida...it's a southern state, fgs, with NRA gun laws.  And, as to ISIS taking credit...people lie about one another all the time.  If I published that you slept with your daughter, does that make it a fact?   A scarf is a scarf.  My brother has a beard.  Sometimes I point with 1 finger.

Tommy, with that kind of thinking all you need is to hear voices of daemons and you'd be committed.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck... you can be pretty sure it's a duck...!

Only a complete idiot or liar will try to tell you that a quacking bird that walks and looks just like a duck, isn't a duck!!!

I don't see a duck in that picture. Usually that metaphor is used when the entailments are obvious. That picture could be a chap dressing up for Halloween. Do you have any foundation regarding that photo?

I have given you 3 possibilities and you have offered up no evidence to back your claim that it is someone who supports ISIS
Not only that, you cannot rule out the other possibilities
The evidence from his family does not suggest he was an ISIS supporter and he certainly did have mental health problems in this situation. I have not even ruled it out he was ISIS, because I would not before the evidence comes to light. You have done so not on evidence but emotions

Wow, another immature insult, when you cannot counter the points at hand

I suggest you answer the points or run  along with your tail between your legs as you always do
