Christmas poems....can you write one?

Post by Syl on Mon Dec 19, 2016 7:27 pm

Andy and Tommy should be good on here.
Years ago on a now defunk forum we had a thread where posters could write their own Christmas prose.... funny, serious, little ones or long ones, does anyone want to have a go?

Is everyone now furiously rhyming "snow" with "blow"?
No?
Just me then.

Yes but it's really quite rudish.

It is about a rude North-westerly, pesky wind.

Christmas, bright and cold and merry
Wine and kissing and misteltoe berry
Santa left a mince pie, hoping that he'll come
Children bright and cheerful, carols on their tongue.

Reality is quite different for many on the day
No joy for them, no parcels, no Santa and his sleigh.
No bright warm fire, no glass of wine, no dinner in to roast
Just another day as usual and they'll be eating toast.

One day perhaps we'll have a world where beggers can be choosers
Were life is fair and Christmas is for winners and for losers
But I hope your day is filled with joy and happy times and fun
And if you have your loved one, make sure to his arms you run

In the bleak mid winter Santa gave a shout,

His sleigh was rammed, he'd lost his toys

and his teeth had fallen out.

I wrote one, but given the mood I'm in it was pretty depressing....and I lost it anyway, (not sure what happened) just as well I think.

No Syl, I'm not good at writing rhymes.

If I really put my mind to it I can knock up a half decent one occasionally. But I have to feel strongly enough about the topic - like a personal bereavement OR a particularly joyous event.  I have a small collection of heartfelt ones I wrote, already seen by forummers whom I know well.

Yes I could write some funny limericks or poems.
But I shan't, because a few nastier individuals here will put their vile and negative slant on them, with the sole aim of causing friction.
They will then blame the lefties/trade unions/Sassy/Scrat/Muslums/immigrutz/scrounguz or people of colour.
Fred will drop into one of my threads, as is his habit, looking for any contrived excuse to ban me while his cronies chunter in the background.
Eds will then lock it.
So I wont give anyone the satisfaction.
Merry Christmas.

I write loads of poems, whatever mood I'm in, dark, light, fun, gloomy, intense, erotic, silly, meaningful.   Words are such a joy.

Christmas poems have been done to death.

Wrote this really quickly and I could've gone on for ages but I couldn't be bothered

Christmas....time to remember your dad walking the dogs in the rain,
your dad in his slippers,
He'll never wear them again.
Your mum as she raises a glass to those who have left, and those who remain,
And the Christmas strain,
Of families making small talk and avoiding the skeletons in the room,
laughter with an undercurrent of gloom,
the day is long but over too soon and we return to our un-Christmas lives
feeling spent and undone,
but we tell the strangers...."Oh it was such a lot of fun"
And the strangers think yours must've been a better one.

Rudolph had a problem, he'd eaten quite a bit

his tummy full and churning, he felt a little sick.

'Hurry up', said Santa, 'no slacking, we'll be late

I can't help the turkey or the pudding that you ate''

Rudolph tried his very best and pulled with all his might

but the harness it was chaffing and round his tummy tight.

He really didn't want to, but the food it did its part

And Rudolph peppered Santa with a great big nasty fart.

I read it.... Sad
It's so true, we bought my mum slippers for Christmas (2010) she never wore them because she never was able to get out of bed and died in February....your poem is so sad and I can relate to your sorrow very well.

I wrote this one on another forum once....

"Petals of snow kiss my lips, sharp winds begin to bite
yet beauty is all around this dark forsaken night.

Look closely, see the star, it's constant presence felt,
and better men than me have bowed their heads and knelt.

So open up your eyes, the joy is there to see,
embrace the peace of Christmastime, the gift of love is free."

Ode to a poster. Razz

Christmas is upon us so I'd really like to say
I hope that everyone who's here enjoys their Christmas day.
Put forums rows behind you, wrap yourselves in Christmas cheer,
but be sure your tin hats ready when we enter the new year.
For now though, peace and happiness, soft snow and Christmas bells
and may I wish you all with love all that you wish yourselves.

Re: Christmas poems....can you write one?

Post by *THE Ben Reilly* on Fri Dec 23, 2016 5:05 pm

Christmas is different, it depends on where you sit

In the Northern Hemisphere, crackling fires lit

Would violate the burn ban in Australia

Where aircons are working to the brink of failure

Christmastime in Japan's a very different beast

As in several other countries of the Far East

Those Buddhists buy a "Christmas cake" with romance in the air

While in Catalonia? Lots of pooping there.

Seriously! They make Yule logs that "poop" out lots of treats

And put out figurines that show off famous people's seats

In parts of Scandinavia, goats are made of straw

Some are big and set on fire, others are quite small

At Christmastime in Norway everybody hides their brooms

To keep the evil witches from stealing them for a zoom

Southeast a bit to Germany, the night is filled with fear

For Krampus won't just give you coal if you've been bad this year

And don't think leaving cookies will mean your hide is saved

For Krampus, naughty children's flesh is always what he's craved

In La Font de la Figuera, people don red underwear

And nothing else, and streak around out in the chilly air

People all around the world are different, that's their right,

So do your thing and they'll do theirs this very special night

That brings people together, no matter what their creed

And show love to humanity in word, but more, in deed.

Its Christmas time
That time year
To raise a glass of wine or beer.
To look ahead
Forget whats been said.

 You say a prayer
Hope it comes true
I did last year
- Maj just isn't here

The Left hope for health
The right for wealth
Live for today its often said
Enjoy your life
You're a long time dead.

I hope you get  just what you want
Except for one, he's still a geranium.

But as I sit here under my spruce
I wonder if its time for a truce.

The Brits did it in WW1
Playing football with the dreaded Hun
I'm sure we can do it on this little site
And just for a week stop all the shyte.

So peace and goodwill to right and left
Without both sides
It would be bereft
So lets have some calm before the storm
For when this place reverts back to norm.
