Trump campaign to Arabic diplomats: 'Ignore the campaign rhetoric'

Post by Ben Reilly on Mon Nov 14, 2016 9:52 pm

According to Arab diplomatic sources, who have communicated directly with high level officials in the Trump campaign, Trump the candidate might not be Trump the President. Unpredictability and lack of coherent foreign policy define his policies in the Middle East, clouded by differences with Vice President-elect, Mike Pence, on the major issues.

This could be a prelude to an internal debate within the Trump-Pence team and within the Republican establishment before any strategies on the Middle East are outlined.

Three months after Trump declared his infamous Muslim ban last December, his campaign according to Arab diplomatic sources, reached out to different Middle East embassies in Washington, DC. The message from the Trump campaign to key Arab diplomats last Spring was a plea to “ignore Mr. Trump’s rhetoric on the campaign trail.”

The outreach which was done by his staff mostly to key states in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), had Trump relay assurances to those governments and capitals where he has business partnerships, that “what is being said on the campaign trail is different from how he would govern”, and that he “looks forward to do business together and explore opportunities were he to win the Presidency.”

Such messaging from Trump reflects a more calculated approach in reaching different audiences and a readiness to abandon his campaign promises for doing real time politics and business with foreign governments. His scorched-earth tactics on the campaign were meant to rally anxious voters with anti-immigration and populist economic slogans, while behind closed doors he would focus on a more well-crafted message to use with foreign leaders. This double-tongue narrative will likely continue in a Trump administration with him firing up his base publicly, while being engaged in outreach efforts -with the same people he is bashing- privately.

If he's clever enough and plays this right, he may be able to please most people after all.

I'm not posting this stuff to prove that Trump won't be the disaster many of his critics predicted. I'm posting it to prove that Trump won't be the right-wing sledgehammer many of his supporters voted for.

Yes I know, I can see that. I'm simply taking a rare opportunity to be right.

Very true! But only six days into his pre-presidency, he's already proving to have massively duped tens of millions of Americans -- and I'm sure millions overseas who hate Muslims, migrants, blah blah blah.

But, doesn't that make him a liar? He has made a promise to America that Muslims will be banned. How does he feel about Mexicans...are they still rapists?

Unfortunately, they elected him. Violence never comes from the left. You piss off those assholes, you gotta civil war on your hands.

My thirst, too, is quenched with the salty tears of racists. But they are also people who were told Trump was going to get them their old jobs back, and you have to admit it kind of sucks to be them over the next few years.

Well I remember saying back in the primaries that if Trump gets elected by the Hill shepherds than the trumpocaplse is unfortunately necessary.
And i still think that is true, for better or worse The US political climate is about to change. Either through Trump himself or those Pissed off Hill shepherds.

But for Trump to be Elected on the back of the Promises he made shows the social contract in the USA has been broken. There are simply too many being excluded from prosperity combined with too many uneducated and too many fearful.

Those pissed off Hill Shepherds are the ones who have been hoarding the guns.  Didja read about the most recent cop-shooting?  This time the perp was white, proving that the color of disenchantment is changing.

As I say, these are interesting times.  Interesting...and most intriguing when it comes to whose-who on the right.

Change is definitely coming, and I personally think this is going to have a good effect on the left and the country -- at least in the long run.

America is full of disenfranchised people, and the GOP somehow managed to get the majority of them (the white ones) to think that it represents them, despite its corporacratic bent. Expect the Democrats to at some point realize that it needs to talk explicitly about class, rather than trying to cloak every conversation about income inequality in the vocabulary of racial discrimination.

It's been a long time coming, actually. I remember when I was in my late teens, early 20s, wondering why the political establishment seemed to assume that if you're white, you're rich and don't need any help.

But our older politicians (and there are a lot of them) are maybe still too close to the Cold War to be comfortable talking about overtly socialist policies -- other than Sanders of course Smile

Sander was a good sign, although I think he would have been a disaster as a president. I agree change is coming...Trump is almost the calm before the storm.

That's why I think it's time for America to take a rest. A friend and his wife were super-heavy achievers, and one day they both quit their jobs, sold their house and took a year traveling around France. Lucky they did to, because the next year she got cancer and died.

America needs a rest. No more wars. No more being the world's policemen. No more being Israel's big brother. Leave it alone...leave it to fend for itself. We don't have to be all hyper any more...I like Trump's idea to send NATO off with a pat on the rear. We don't need the dissociative identity disorder of Saudi Arabia. Let Japan take care of North Korea and Europe to deal with Russia.

During this delicate time the less demands we make on Congress and the President, the less damage they can cause. Cancel the paper. Tell the kids to feed the cat. We'll be back when we get back. Cool
