Seven people killed in Croydon, London.

http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/at-least-seven-killed-as-speeding-tram-derails-in-croydon/ar-AAk6ksx?li=AAdeCd7&ocid=spartanntp

"At least seven people were killed when a tram sped round a sharp bend and derailed during the morning rush-hour.
Investigators said the vehicle was travelling at a "significantly higher speed than is permitted", and are probing whether the driver, who has been arrested, may have fallen asleep.
Scenes on board have been described as "total carnage" and "like something out of a film" as the two-carriage tram tipped onto its side next to an underpass near the Sandilands stop in Croydon, south London.
The 42-year-old driver, from Beckenham, is being held on suspicion of manslaughter and is currently in police custody, British Transport Police said.
One passenger, who was among more than 50 injured, recalled being trapped under a woman, adding: "I don't think she made it".

This happened early this morning. I wasn't sure if anyone had already made a thread, but it seems to have been ignored with all the election fever going about.
Latest news is 7 dead and 50 injured.

I have friends in that area. It's a terrible tragedy.
I can't fathom how it happened unless the tracks were flooded? We had a lot of rain all through the night.

The driver has been arrested and bailed.   He says he blacked out, the police say he might have fallen asleep.   Will be difficult for either one to prove it.  Terrible accident.

That's even worse than an accident caused by weather....

These are the first people to die in a tram crash in Britain for 57 years, so they normally have a good safety record.
The people who lost their lives are now being named.

in which case it could have been a petite mal seizure......
or more likely whats known as abscence epilepsy where the sufferer just ...well kinda stops....freezes....
he wouldnt have let go the deadmans handle in that case

we shall have to wait and see.....

More victims of the tram crash are named.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-37947408

The 42 year old driver has been released on police bail following his arrest on suspicion of manslaughter.
But this taken form the article is interesting....

"British Transport Police (BTP) is investigating claims made in a Facebook post last week that a tram "lifted onto one side at 40mph" at the same spot."
