Houston shooting

(CNN)[Breaking news alert, posted at 10:34 a.m. ET Monday]

The suspect in a shooting in southwest Houston was pronounced dead after a shootout with police, Acting Police Chief Martha Montalvo told reporters.

The police chief declined to release the suspect's identity, but told reporters "he is a lawyer and there were issues concerning his law firm."

Nine people were injured in the shooting, Montalvo said. Of those injured, three people were treated and released and six are hospitalized. One person is in critical condition and one person is in serious condition, she said.

Police say they've shot a suspect who opened fire in a strip mall parking lot in southwest Houston Monday morning.

At least six people were transported to hospitals with injuries, Houston Office of Emergency Management spokesman Michael Walter said.

An emergency alert from the city said the shooting scene is believed to be contained to the area of a shopping center and warned residents to avoid the area.

Authorities have not released further details about the shooting, which took place in a strip mall parking lot near the corner of Weslayan Street and Bissonnet Street in southwest Houston, according to CNN affiliate KTRK.

Firefighters and police swarmed the scene as gunfire rang out, KTRK said.
There are no reports of additional suspects, police said.

I wonder if these mall shootings are being inspired by all the police shootings?

Well, I was just wondering. The NRA is saying that the more who carry guns, the better the world will be.

Could that be the connection between the police shootings and these mall shootings? People emulating cops, making the world a better place according to NRA directions?

But were they led to that by these crazy ideologies being tossed around?

The message of the NRA is have a gun so the good guys can fight the bad guys! So, then we see the cops killing innocent people for nothing, and we all know the cops are by definition the "good guys". The logical conclusion is: go to the mall and kill some innocent people because that's what the cops do.

I'm not advocating that, but I'm wondering if this is the mental process going on in a large segment of the population. RW ideologies have gone crazy, and who knows what connections Donald Trump will make next.

Here's a guy who is endorsed by the NRA and says everyone should have their 2nd Amendment rights to have their guns...and then he's saying the answer to crime in the inner city is to take away their guns.

I mean, guns are the answer...guns are the problem. Who knows where these bowel urges of messaging will go? So, if cops are the good guys, and cops are killing innocent people, what are people to think?

It's just my opinion, but if they ever give the world an enema, they will stick the hose in Harris County, Texas.

Hi Quill. Sounds like the shooter had some sort of breakdown?
It's always a relief when he is caught quickly.
The words "The shooter is still on the loose" strikes mortal fear into the heart of the community.

I know.  That incident up in Burlington, WA, was scary.  The guy just walked off the map. Once they get outta sight, who knows what happens?  When you lose that immediate connection, it turns into an investigative connection.  And those we are never sure of.

I don't know that they have the right guy there now.  No one has made an ironclad case.

What the judge nails on the head if the culture of the police.

But she also gets right the whole connection between austerity and bad policing. Republicans and Tories over there, think all that money goes to benefits and shiftless people. But the same people will start a war, which costs a million times more. And the next day they're back to blaming benefits.

Do you have any idea how much the cost of one FA-18 aircraft would mean in police and teacher's salaries? It's not a misplacement error, it's a magnitude error. We piss away about 55% of our budget on completely needless things, and you know what we get? Not defense. Not security. It's the chance to put at risk our own bright young boys and girls in order to prove they are better baby killers than the other guy.

WTF does Viet Nam or Syria mean to us? They're on the other side of the world, fcs. We are not defending anything. We are creating entertainment for old white men, who want to send young men and women to fight their wars.

That's where the money goes. And in the meantime, we can't afford the police stations, fire stations, hospitals and schools to make the world a decent place. My god, we in this country don't even have a NHS,,,and these same old, white men complain that they don't want to fund healthcare. But they sure as shit want to waste money on their entertaining wars.

If we merely cut the budget of our so-called Defense Departments in half, our standard of living would skyrocket. Fook...we could even actually build a wall. Razz

I agree that we've got to have a Defense Department.  But what is wasting all of our money are these officious intermeddling in other countries' affairs.

For years it was the Cold War, and intermeddling because we somehow felt it was in our best interests to resist communism.  Really, what interest is it of ours how another country organizes itself? That's all socialism is...a form of economic organization.

Now, it's Islam...and a form of chaos we totally created.  We had no purpose in Iraq, and it cost us $17-trillion, and unleashed a religious war.

What Putin is doing is recreating the buffer states of the USSR.  It's a threat to Europe, perhaps.  But it's a long way away from North America.  My main message is, protect your borders...yes.  But we haven't done that since 1942 at the Battle of Midway.

whilst police bashing is rather common these days, what most apparently fail to understand is that they put their lives on the line day in and out to help people like you who seem to hate them.
