Brexit seven weeks on: how many of the predictions have come true?

Post by Didge on Mon Aug 15, 2016 12:14 pm

The Brexit dust is beginning to settle. It’s now more than seven weeks since the vote and some of the effects on matters relating to our finances are beginning to crystallise. What is clear is that the more lurid predictions made by the Remain camp before the vote have not come to pass. Here we look at some of those predictions and take stock of what Brexit has done to interest rates, inflation, pensions, foreign exchange rates and more.

Heard a report on the radio today that said British employers have downgraded their hiring forecasts because of Brexit.

Of course, the British don't need jobs -- they need freedom from being told what kind of bananas they can import, and from Romanians Rolling Eyes

well the economic forecasts are inevitable
UK's trading postion will degrade as it is no longer part of a trading block and unable to extort the Huge tarriffs it currently does in the future without complete Economic isolation.

no one can say for sure as the Parliment is saying it wont even start the process until next year at earliest... as it isn't dumb and is trying it's hardest to not commit the economic suicide that the hillshepherds voted for.

we know who doesn't understand what they were voting for Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes when they think 7 weeks will reveal economic trending.

I'm still predicting they'll enter the EEA and will have to give up that most cherished goal of Brexit -- no more freedom of movement.

The Parliament (if it isn't as stupid as as the electorate) will negotiate some (Norwegian) way of getting access to the single EU market, instead of forcing the country to negotiate a myriad of trade deals with the 27 remainders, the EU will demand free movement, the Parliament will concede and life will go on virtually identically to how it was before Brexit.

At least, I hope -- I wouldn't want to see the British damned by their own stupidity ...

until it is all said and done

The pound isn't doing too well against the dollar but if push comes to shove and our economy goes pear shaped we can melt down our huge pile of Olympic medals, and crown jewels,... everything! - even the tramps could chuck in the rusty safety pins they use to hold their underwear up.

2 main reasons for the weaker pound are...

1) The big market money men sold a load of sterling off while betting on it going down in value... 'short selling' it... bit like what George soros did in 92...

https://priceonomics.com/the-trade-of-the-century-when-george-soros-broke/

2) The bank of England is still creating and pumping extra billions into the economy in what is called 'quantitive easing'... which is effectively devaluing the currency.

And my response to Ben and veya...

When will you idiots realise that we are not against immigration... we are against mass immigration and uncontrolled immigration.

And we don't need to be in the eu to trade with the eu.

We want to regain control over the whole of our country, agriculture and fisheries and to make our own laws, rules and regulations, as we did before the eu hijacked our democracy.

And we don't want TTIP either!

The eu is the problem... not the solution.

However, I don't expect an Australian or an American who have never even been to uk to understand the reality of what is going on here...

It seems to me that the most obvious prediction has already come true: Parliament does nothing!

A referendum taken under EU law, to leave the EU...has absolutely no significance to Parliament in the UK. It's happening right now...NOTHING! Evil or Very Mad

It's turned out to be a good thing and even the head of the Bank of England admitted that on the news a few days ago TM.

And we all know how trustworthy big bankers are.

He was one of the biggest fear/doom-mongers in the run up to the vote...
