Fitness Nutrition: What Science Says About Diet and Exercise

Post by Didge on Mon Aug 01, 2016 6:05 pm

No matter what your reason is for exercising — to strengthen your muscles, lose weight, increase your aerobic fitness or improve your mood — you likely want to get the most out of your workout. But is there a particular way to eat to maximize that performance? To answer this question, Live Science talked to several experts about what the science says, and looked at some of the most definitive studies on nutrition and exercise. It turns out there's no single best way to eat to be successful in your exercise goals. In fact, the vast majority of people who exercise do not need to eat anything special to support their exercise regimens, several experts said.

Of course they don't. It's all about common sense eating and balance. Listening to your body and allowing it to guide you.
The reason you crave a steak? Beans? Lots of green veg? Your body is looking for iron.

Sugar cravings are correct too, but as we know, it's about the right sugars for our bodies.

No just good fitness is all that is required, as all these fad diets are load of cobblers.
Eat when your body needs to eat, but do not over indulge

Yep! Razz

Hidden sugars are everywhere too. Most people have no idea how much sugar is in a slice of bread, and paninis are full of sugar!

I heard a report on the radio that made an observation that I thought was kind of profound -- the best kind of exercise regimen is whatever regimen you'll actually keep doing. No point in sticking with a regimen you hate, since you'll very likely quit it, and any exercise is better than none.

In fact ...

You are spot on. I hate sticking to any routine (I follow some because they benefit my children obviously) and any regime that makes me bored.....forget it.
It's why I've never dieted in my life.
