First topic message reminder :

As an adult have you ever slapped anyone or been slapped?

Is it still more acceptable for a woman to slap a man than a man to slap a woman?

Rags has said that you never get involved in "mob taunting" (or similar words) and I'm inclined to agree. You get in my last nerve at times but you don't generally get involved in gang fights on here - I can and admit I have - but you're actually not like that.

Think you missed rags post saying that. Thought id mention it.

Did not miss it, and is nice she said to be honest so I thank her for that and you as well Eddie.

To be honest rags has been jumped on again just for being in disagreement and I doubt I would have even posted on this thread if not for no reason my name was brought up.

What was absurd was that specsaver thought Didge was actually influenced by what I said in this thread, whereas it was obvious he was not referring to anything I said at all. He/she tried three times to get him to have a go at me before giving up.

Seems you have a bit of a grudge against didge yet you hardly know him apparently?

And here you are 'dropping' in for ??? some jovial/insightful rejoinders of your very own or just selective reading because that's 'JUST WHAT YOU DO?' I've already expressed my POV on your ability to MODERATE and yet here you are once again reinforcing that low opinion! BRAVO...
Had you cared/bothered or just plain given' a rats arse about the ebb & flow of this thread you see where dear-wee-little Didge lost his mind and attitude and returned to calling me all of those AKA's that occupy his 'wee-little' brain!

That's got to be so painful for him...poor suffering little boy, cause is certainly flows out of his every orifice when he's worked himself up into a mental-meld down! But I'm sure he'll enjoy the warm comforting solace that you do provide! Slapping. - Page 7 919144451

Here you are again pronouncing eddie to be a bad moderator - the same thing you did virtually on your first day here. It's kind of courteous to at least wait a few weeks before you start slagging off the admin/mods. I said you hadn't even been here a month - in fact, it's been only just over a week.

Harvey County Sheriff: Gunman served PFA hours before shooting
Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton says the gunman in yesterdays attack at Excel was served a protection from abuse order less than 2 hours before the deadly shooting.

Eyewitness News has obtained the PFA against Cedric Ford, which was filed in Sedgwick County Court on February 5th. It was served to Ford at Excel while he was at work on Thursday.

The PFA was filed by a woman who lived with Ford. It states they were formerly in a dating relationship and that they lived together. It also states that he was moving out.

The woman who filed the claim says he "caused Plaintiff bodily injury or attempted to cause Plaintiff bodily injury." and "Placed Plaintiff in fear of imminent bodily injury by threatening Plaintiff."

She writes that she was in an argument with Ford on February 5th when he started pushing and grabbing her. She says he then put her in a choke hold from behind and got her to the ground.

She says "He is an alcoholic, violent, depressed. It's my belief he is in desperate need of medical and psychological help!"

I agree.
I'm also of the opinion that the hitting and slapping of men is not a "lesser crime" than if it's vice versa.
I simply don't advocate hitting at all.

Sassy stated >>> Sounds like a typical abuser when he thinks his victim might be getting away. As we said, that is the most dangerous time.

As this story line is unfolding; this cretin was formerly located in Florida...where his length of a violent rap sheet and felony charges should have precluded him from having access to any hand gun let alone a semi-automatic/automatic military grade weapon! And yet --- he'd put images and video's of his shooting that AK47 type of weapon on his FB page; along with his family photos of some children!
Loads of details to shine a light upon with this bug-nuts man.
When he first became armed and dangerous {yesterday} he was stopping traffic and telling people to 'get out of your vehicle' and if they refused or tried to hide --- he pulled off a couple of rounds into their automobiles!
This Domestic Issue just covers such a wide range of horrid issues that just keep making the VIOLENCE of our humans a necessary reason to keep them away from ANY FIRE ARMS forever! soapbox

I've always found the story of Betty Broderick interesting.

Betty killed her ex husband and his new wife in 1989 - several years after Dan had left her for Linda. Betty claimed that he abused her mentally and financially before, during, and after the divorce, and they're the ones who wound up dead - shot in their bed.

Who was the abuser? It's amazing how the public were divided, and still are. Some say that Betty was evil, other say that Dan Broderick and Linda Kolkena got what they deserved.

Her story is fascinating, I saw a brilliant TV film based on her story years ago.

I don't know how anyone could support the way she acted though.
She was the mistress of her own downfall, consumed with jealousy and rage that her husband had dared to fall out of love with her and in love with someone else.

Normal people grieve for the life they have lost, then get over it and live their lives without the man who dumped them.

Well the divorce dragged on for years - right up until the year that Betty killed them. Dan was a lawyer who knew how to manipulate the law to his advantage. Then there were custody issues re the children. It just sent her over the edge I think. She was a very angry person indeed, and Dan and Linda should have known better than to wind her up.

I've seen the film too - there are two of them starring Meredith Baxter - great actress. I also read the book "Until the twelfth of never", and I found myself constantly sympathising with one and then the other, and then back again.

I'm not sure which of the two film I watched, but Meredith Baxter played her brilliantly.
She wasn't a very easy character to sympathise with (in the film I saw) foul mouthed and nasty....and even before her husband left her she was horrible, just not a nice person.

I think I also saw her on Oprah Winfrey once giving an interview from jail....she hadn't got any nicer with age.

The first one was the lead up to the murder, and the second was after the murder with the court case.

None of them were very nice really - that's what made it so hard for the jury.

It was the lead up to the murder.....I think it ended when she broke into their house and fired the gun.
I wouldn't mind seeing that again and the sequel, I might look for it online.

Thank you ladies, Raggs and Syl. You both provided my entertainment last night and I spent an enjoyable few hours first watching a documentary about Betty Broderick and then on to watch the two films mentioned, which I thoroughly recommend if anyone is after a good film to watch.

Whether we talk about Betty Brodrick or Aileen Wuornos (depicted in Monster, starring Charlize Theron), they are all where they belong.

I never met a con in prison who didn't claim he didn't do it.  One of the problems you have as a lawyer is trying to convince a client to SHUT HIS FUCKIN' MOUTH!!!  Why won't they do it?

Because every con in the world has a story, and feels that if she or he can just tell it, everybody will just lay down and believe it.  Well, hey...a jury convicted them!  They had their chance to tell their story.  They got rejected.  That's it...fini.

Betty Broderick is not any sweeter than Richard Allen Davis, murderer of Polly Klaas, just because someone made a boring movie about it.  They are all cold-blooded killers.

She hasn't changed her stance since then. She got sentenced for each murder, but the sentences were consecutive. She's been up for parole but they won't let her out because she simply won't take any responsibility.

It's her complete lack of remorse which makes her an interesting character really.

I like all these sorts of films/documentaries.

I'll have to look out for it. I don't have Netflix (think it's crap) what can I see it on?

I found the case of Jodi Arias quite interesting as well. There's no doubt that she murdered Travis Alexander in a particularly dreadful way, and it's right that she was convicted of first degree murder. There were some emotional abuse issues there, and I don't think he treated her very well tbh, but she should have walked away and been content with throwing darts at a picture of him or something.

The movie wasn't boring Quill, they were interesting, as people here have stated.

Yes the above were all cold blooded killers, but what leads up to a killing is what makes some more interesting than others?
The psychology of people is fascinating. Many a time when someone goes on a murdering rampage people say things like..."he/she was such a nice quiet person" but when you dig deeper they have shown signs of being a self obsessed control freak since childhood.

A lot of people took the view that Betty was narcissist and self-obsessed, but I think she was probably the opposite. She had no sense of self and no way to cope without the status of marriage. Dan Broderick dumped her without even looking back, and that must have made her feel even more insignificant.

Interesting.
Maybe she felt incomplete without him....which to be fair would be understandable.
They had made a successful life together, she by his side as they built up a family and a successful business, so to have all that taken away would leave most people feeling desperate.
The settlement could not make up for the fact that she was lost....and she disguised that feeling of low self worth with anger and thoughts of revenge.

But...she still sees herself as the victim, and that to me shows she is indeed self obsessed...or mad.

She absolutely felt incomplete without him. Her whole purpose since she married him was to build up the perfect life with him. The problem was that she submerged her own personality in the process. She devoted herself to making him successful so that she could feel like "somebody", but when he did become successful she couldn't share it with him on an equal footing. Then Linda just stepped into her shoes without making any sacrifices or effort whatsoever. Had she had her own career and her own money perhaps it might not have hit her so hard. Perhaps if he had not become so rich she wouldn't have minded so much. All that time and effort she had invested meant nothing in the end.

The book is much more detailed. It goes into how Dan controlled her financially and how nobody wanted to go up against him because he was such a successful lawyer.

I will read that book soon Rags, it does sound more (not detached...cant think of the word) than the film, which was more one dimensional...showing her as the scorned wife and not really focusing on him.

I wonder what her childhood was like?

The scenario you outline is one that happens to countless women....being left for a younger prettier model after they have been the loyal wife for decades, what made her different as in not being able to get over it though?

I think the fact that he wasn't rich when they met, but became rich later on had an impact. She felt that his success was largely down to her, but she was totally financially dependent on him after the separation. She didn't really get a financial settlement in the divorce which enabled her to be fully independent even though he was loaded. She gave up her children at one point to teach him a lesson, and he got to keep them, which I think really sent her over the edge. He lied to her for years about the affair with Linda, and that didn't help. She was old fashioned, and thought that marriage was for life, no matter what.

There was talk that Dan and Linda goaded her, and that Linda sent her stuff about diets and that kind of thing. I don't know if that's true, but it would certainly be a factor if it was. The judge at one of the hearings told Dan to get Linda's voice off the answerphone because it was just provoking Betty.
