It's a paradox, because we also "take our Texas time" Smile

Hmm lets be fair you both hunt so you will have a heightened sense of reaction to shoot to kill with accuracy, even more so if the animal sense danger and reacts and moves which is a feat within itself.

I am sure you both know, well Nicko more so that in the past British soldiers in the height of the Empire, produced a slow steady rate of fire which is far more accurate, as high rates of fire from an individual decrease accuracy and will be less effective in combat, as accuracy is surrendered for speed. Thus a high rate of single shot rifle fire is a sure sign of panic within such an armed force. A steady rate of fire produces far more devastating an effect, especially when controlled by officers at the time. Where I am sure many have watch the film Rorke's Drift. One of the few and most accurate parts of that film was the controlled steady fire led by officers. These men are trained to shoot to such levels of accuracy but lets be honest again, you too both hunt and thus reaction as well as accuracy is key to a great marksman.
Well that is what I understand unless either of you in your expertise can add to this?

Well, the kind of shooting I do. called "walked up" whereby you walk round your ground with or without a dog to flush, and shoot as game is walked up...I.e put to flight by your presence, is ALL reaction...

dont forget for safety you are walking with the gun open (but with rounds chambered)

when the game flies up without warning, anything from 2 to 10 meters away, going in any direction it pleases, you have to bring the gun to bear, closing it as you do, IDENTIFY correctly, get on target and then shoot, by which time your quarry is likely 20 to 40 meters away

I MUCH prefer that to "driven game", where the birds are driven over the guns from cover

you will rarely, if ever, see a hunter with a rifle (for example a .22 long rifle) take a quick "snap shot", Every shot from a rifle should be carefully considered, both for safety AND animal welfare, shooting with a rifle is much more about stalking and concealment (and good equipment..like night vision etc)

So yes I suppose that does help somewhat  Smile

lol, so the part on a slow steady rate of fire was right, but not so on reaction

Sorry for busting your balls last night, it was only banter

Interesting to understand more as have done some shooting, but mainly clay pigeon shooting
