Australia refuses to recognise marriage of British man whose husband died on honeymoon

Post by Guest on Wed Jan 20, 2016 2:16 pm

Authorities in Australia refused to recognise the marriage of a man whose husband died in Adelaide during the British couple’s honeymoon following a decision that was condemned as “senseless discrimination”. In a case described by the British High Commission as “very distressing”, the state of South Australia declared David Bulmer-Rizzi’s status as “never married” on a death certificate after the 32-year-old died suddenly after falling down a staircase at a friend’s home in Adelaide. Marco Bulmer-Rizzi, the man’s grieving husband, was forced to have the funeral arrangements and other decisions approved by his father-in-law Nigel Bulmer, who expressed outrage over the state’s discrimination.
Mr Bulmer, who flew to Adelaide after his son’s accident, said the state’s actions “demeans my son's memory”.
"It's degrading," he told BuzzFeed. "It's cast them as second-class citizens. No one should ever have to go through what we've gone through. We're at the bottom and somebody has dug a deeper pit."
Mr Bulmer-Rizzi said that in the view of the state government: "I'm nothing."

How awful! Surely they could've acted with discretion and just let the guy grieve and plan his own husbands funeral?
FFS!

Shows how far behind Australia is compared to the UK with progression and equality

if you actually read the article you'd see it says all the way through STATE governments
Not Australian Government.
it really has not much to do with me as I have no more vote than you on their governace (I know hard for Brits to accept hey dont get to vote on other peoples stuff)

'South Australia' has the Distinct Disadvantage of being Colonised by FREE British citizens and not the glorious convicts.
Adelaide, it's capital, is known as 'the city of churches'
it is the least multicultral and Most Anglo Christian of all Australia.

I am going to use a similar defense to Quill "It's the south" ... I reserve the right to do that for Queensland too, even though they are north Cool

New South Wales (my State) recognises gay marriages but doesn't preform them lots ot couples take the trip over the ditch to New Zealand to get hitched.

Like I say, it would not happen in the Uk, as no parts can go against of a country like a consituency can go against the law

Well...this is what you get when you get stuffed with a "federation of states"

you can be held accountable for things over which you have no control

you are an Aussie (for instance) therfore you are accountable for the actions of those "backward" areas Twisted Evil

which is ONE reason NOT to go for a "federal" europe

Which shows not only are we a more progressive nation with more equality for everyone, but also the law itself is equal to all within the land,
The Federal state system is inequality as it allows laws to conflict with the national laws

it is sort of better though, in that, we have core laws that universal but the specifics differ allowing progressive States like NSW and Victoria to move ahead (without a national majority) while regressive states like SA and Tasmania wait...
and Like i say
We (true Progressive people) just persist and continue down our path and prove to them the progress is beneficial. We cannot control what others do but we can control what we do and if we are good/successful enough than others will copy us, cause that is what social primates and hominids do. When confronted with a demonstrably superior idea.

Incorrect as equality means the same law for everyone, your system and the US is based on inequality as all do not share the same law
Its a backward system, that denies equality
Again the UK is leaps and bounds ahead of both Australia and the US in regards to equality and progression

so you cant accept that everyone does not want to accept your Opinon again Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
YOU ARE NOT A DICTATOR as much as you want to be

and it would be inequality becaue it means that the much more popualtious NSW could just override everyone. You basically just denied any democratic power to 3 quarters of Australia. Sydney would be making the decsion for people over 3000kms away. a costal city telling people in the desert towns how to live Rolling Eyes

Lone Wolf Would have already pointed out regional NSW already hates this and has a probelm with the fact that Sydney gets to decide everything because even if the rest of the state votes agasnt it, Sydney has more people. And you want to exapnd that to ALL of Australia Suspect Suspect  Proving without a doubt why you need to pull your head in when telling others what to do since it is VERY apparent You have no clue as to the actual circumstances of other nations.

Again failing to now understand equality

You will be ignored for lying falsifying and fabricating things not said until the end of February

That is your punishment for the worst lies I have seen on the other post in ages

I am sending you to Coventry until then
