threats to MP's

the REAL face of the left showing itself

no better than the EDL

Labour MP Neil Coyle, who received an apparent death threat over his backing of Syria airstrikes, has said he has now been sent an apology.

But the MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark said that as he did not know who the threat on Twitter was from, he informed the police and the matter was now out of his hands.

He said he contacted police as the alleged abuse had left him worried for his wife, staff and volunteers.

Scotland Yard has confirmed it is investigating a number of online threats made on social media against MPs following the controversial Commons vote.

The tweet sent to Mr Coyle has now been deleted

The message sent to Mr Coyle, which included emojis of knives and has since been deleted, said: "@coyleneil , u voted for airstrikes in syria , if i see u round ends."

Darren McCaffrey, Sky's politics reporter in Westminster, said police officers had been placed outside Mr Coyle's constituency office, such is the perceived threat.

The scare follows a letter - penned to Labour members by Jeremy Corbyn and his deputy, Tom Watson - which warned "abuse and intimidation have no place in politics".

Mr Watson has since told Sky News that he will be taking proposals for a social media code of conduct to Labour's National Executive Committee in January.

Labour is to introduce a new social media code of conduct for members after some MPs reported being abused over the Syria vote.

The rules will be on the agenda for discussion at the January meeting of the party's National Executive Committee, Sky can exclusively reveal.

Deputy leader Tom Watson told Sky News it will be based on a social media code of conduct for civil servants that he introduced when he was a Cabinet Office minister.

His plan follows reports that several MPs who voted with the Government for airstrikes against Islamic State in Syria have received aggressive and intimidating comments on Facebook and Twitter.

Neil Coyle, MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, received a potential death threat after he voted for airstrikes.

Another Labour MP, Stella Creasy, was subjected to a protest outside her constituency office in Walthamstow.

Sky News has also been told that MPs Simon Danczuk, Adrian Bailey, Vernon Coaker, Yvette Cooper, Ian Austin and Michael Dugher have all received abuse over their Syria vote.

Mr Dugher said he has been sent pictures of mutilated children, with someone telling him they hoped his house gets bombed.

Mr Austin said he has been called "child killer slime", and told he "should be facing hanging".

Labour MP Simon Danczuk confirmed to Sky News that he would be reporting the abuse his office had received to police.

Mr Watson said: "I am very concerned about some of the specific threats to MPs, the one for Neil Coyle is very sinister and I'm also concerned about poor Stella Creasy who has had some terrible comments and threats on Twitter.

"The demonstration outside her office must've been quite frightening for her staff to put up with and if there are Labour Party members involved in that, we need to deal with that.

"We have written to all the members of the Labour Party and said we need to not abuse one another.

"In Britain, no one should feel intimidated about expressing their opinion and people with the vilest of views have freedom of expression.

"We are going to go to our National Executive Committee at their next meeting to ask that they consider devising a... code of conduct or guide to how people conduct themselves on social media because I have been concerned that the level of debate is becoming more intolerant."

He defended the role of party leader Jeremy Corbyn, who opposed the airstrikes and asked supporters on Twitter to demonstrate their opposition to those in favour.

encouraged by the stupidity of their leader. I mean is he REALLY so STUPID as to not realise what would happen
If he is so dumb then we dont want him as a leader...inept doesnt even cover it

if he isnt then he's a nasty piece of work, prepared to go to any lengths and means to acheive his aims...and we CERTAINLY dont want him in charge

so either dumb or nasty.....

Ms Creasy said on Facebook she had no reason to believe the organisers of the protest were the same as those who had sent her threats of violence or abusive messages, but she said those messages had continued and had remained "violent and abusive".

Bullying is wrong and should always be condened and challenged.

And Labour don't have the copywrite on bullying what with the Tory Party currently being exposed for exactly that leading to the death of one of their activists who allegedly took his own life because of it.

A senior Tory minister has already resigned because of it and questions are being asked about who else in the top Tory ranks knew about it and did nothing.

Not just the left wing is it?
