Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, is one of the biggest and brightest festivals in the world.

It's my absolutely favourite festival, and I'm really sad I haven't managed to get to one for the last few years.  My friend Jeet always invites me, but it not practical unfortunately.

Utterly beautiful and uplifting:

Typically held over five days, the celebrations coincide with the darkest new moon in the Hindu calendar.
It is marked as an official holiday in Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Malaysia, Singapore and Fiji, but is celebrated by many more all across the globe.

Vrindavan, India

Leicester, East Midlands

Amritsar, India

Mumbai

Ahmedabad, India

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Berlin, Germany

Lyon, France

Kathmandu, Nepal

Watford, Hertfordshire

... and London
