Labour shadow ministers ditch Jeremy Corbyn's 'barmy' women-only train carriages proposal

Post by feelthelove on Mon Nov 09, 2015 7:29 pm

Jeremy Corbyn’s proposal for women-only train carriages has been quietly ditched after shadow transport ministers decided they could never endorse the "barmy" idea, The Telegraph can disclose.

Labour MPs creating the party’s transport policy believe the idea – one of Mr Corbyn’s most memorable proposals from the leadership campaign – would not reduce assaults on women passengers.

Lilian Greenwood, Labour's shadow transport secretary, told The Telegraph she was “not convinced” women-only carriages were “the best way or a practical way” to stop harassment on trains.

Another Labour transport source said the “barmy” proposal was unenforceable and would never be backed by shadow ministers as official party policy.

The fact that Mr Corbyn’s own transport team has effectively scrapped one of his most-eye catching proposals during the campaign to succeed Ed Miliband is a blow to the Labour leader’s authority.

Poor old Daily Telegraph, tying itself in knots at the moment trying desperately to put Corbyn down with the odd lie or two or three, or four, five or six, you get the picture.

The idea of women only train carriages was NOT Corbyns, a WOMEN'S GROUP asked him if he would put to forward for discussion, so he did.  Unlike the arrogant son-of-a-bitch Cameron, he actually listens to people and tries to help.

However, it was nice to see they got quite a shock from their own readers, they are obviously not all stupid enough to believe the hype lol

The Daily Telegraph's Jeremy Corbyn Coverage Isn't Going Down Well Even With Its Readers

Readers of the Daily Telegraph have hit out at the paper for its coverage of Jeremy Corbyn's bow at the Cenotaph during the Remembrance Sunday service.
The broadsheet's article outlined criticism of the Labour leader for "only slightly moving his head after laying a traditional wreath of poppies".
It went on to quote former Conservative defence minister, Sir Gerald Howarth, and an etiquette expert, William Hanson, both of whom decided Corbyn's bow was not deep enough.

The bow in question - video on link
Hanson said: "Protocol dictates that while his bow did not not necessarily have to be deep, like a theatrical bow and scrape, it should have gone down around 45 degrees from the waist.

"It is his first time in this role at the Cenotaph and he is not cut from the cloth of a statesman."  (thank goodness he's not that pompous, hence his enormous popularity)

Howarth took a slightly more direct approach and called Corbyn an "embarrassment".

A poll within the article however showed the majority of readers of the article did not agree.

Of course, they didn't like to say that after the ceremony the others all disappeared for a slap-up meal.  Corbyn stayed until the march was over and spent time talking to the vets and taking pictures of them.  He also had a hand written note on his wreath, the others were printed.

Following that he went to a ceremony in his own constituency.

Of course, you will always get the brainless wonders that believe stuff in the Murdoch press, but they are becoming a dying breed.

The Telegraph journalist shoud have done a bit of research before coming out with this. You see Clare Perry, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport announced at the Tory Party conference to much applause that she is considering women only carraiges to cut sex attacks.

In the eyes of the Torygraph if it's Labour it's barmy but if it's the Tories then it's to be applauded.

The Telegraph and The Sun will do pretty much anything to try and discredit JC.

They are terrified.

I just hope the masses don't fall for all this BS so easily come 2020. The more the RW press hate on him the more I think he is probably the man to change our country's future for the better.

Your right Les. The electorate faces a stark choice....an honest politician who says what he thinks or a bunch of liars who will say anything to get elected.

Corbyn isn't a dictator and it is the Labour Party that will decide policy. He has already said that on Trident that if it is decided to keep Trident then he will just have to live with it.

And we don't know whether Cameron would push the Red Button either.

Absolutely agree Les.  We have so many new members in our local branch because of him, quite a few are actually ex Tories, which is just about unheard of in this area, and they all say, at last, a man of principle who doesn't say things just because he thinks it will get him elected, he actually believes in what he says and he believes in a just society.   Amazing what you can do if you stand up and speak the truth, no matter how many lies the press come out with.  To be honest, the more lies they tell, the more popular he gets.

Right. And yeah Irn its a good point about the greater democracy of JC's Labour. People have got used to the idea in this country that a PM has presidential power. It's refreshing to see JC love away from that.
