Five-thousand three hundred years ago cats were living alongside farmers in the ancient Chinese village of Quanhucun. The evidence for this study is derived from research in China led by Yaowu Hu and colleagues at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Hu and his team analysed eight bones from at least two cats excavated from the site.
The Yangshao Culture (7000 ∼ 5000 B.P.) is one of the best- known cultures of the Chinese Neolithic and mainly distributed within the territory of Shaanxi and Henan Provinces. Yangshao villages were comprised of houses, cemeteries and settlements that were often used by large groups of people for long periods. Foxtail millet and common millet were cultivated and domestic pigs and dogs were kept.
