That made me laugh, but I have to think it has to do with the technology used. I've gotten clear shots with my journalism rig that would have been a total blur with my cell phone camera.

Probably all down to shutter speed. Roller coasters probably make a LOT selling those photos, so they want a better camera to capture good shots.

plus it is also a controlled situation
I believe most take the shot just at the point of drop so the speed isn't at it maximum.
Pretty sure Ben is right, Plus size, a reasonable part of the cost in high capacity technology is getting it down to a manageable size which is easier if you don't have to move it
